Peltier shoots Jabloteh into First Citizens Cup semis.
By: Vinod Narwani (ttproleague).

A late item from substitute Lester Peltier gave CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh a 2-1 victory over United Petrotrin in their quarterfinal match of the First Citizens Cup at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella, on Friday.
The encounter, which was dominated by Terry Fenwick’s men, saw the southerners taking a surprise lead in the 11th minute after captain Anthony Rougier’s long ball on the right was perfectly collected by Kevon Clement, who traveled with it before beating Jabloteh custodian Brian James in goal calmly slotting it home for the opening item.
This fired up the men in green as Jabloteh skipper Kerry Baptiste sent a perfect through ball for Cyd Gray, but his effort was brilliantly saved by goalkeeper Perry Martin in the 14th minute.
There was another save that Martin had to make five minutes later as Jabloteh kept applying the pressure, with Jason Marcano sending a ball from the left which was headed almost at ground level by a stooping Anthony Wolfe.
Rougier and company again had to thank their man between the posts in the 24th and 27th minutes for denying Jabloteh what could have been the equalizer and a possible winner.
Frustration seemed to get the better of Jabloteh as Wendell Joseph made a clumsy, and quite dangerous, tackle on Simeon Augustus which, to the surprise of many, was given as a yellow instead of a red card in the 28th minute.
The vocal crowd expressed displeasure when Petrotrin’s Jerrol Forbes had broken free and was heading for goal in the 41st minute, only to be tackled from behind and tripping inside the box.
The referee saw it as a legitimate challenge by Jabloteh, which led to the fans being disgusted with the official as was expressed by various choices of words from the stands.
Then came another Jabloteh opportunity as Nigel Daniel’s distribution to Jason Marcano resulted in a low drive along the ground, which was saved by Martin, thus ensuring that he maintained an unblemished record before the interval.
The second-half was also full of action with Wolfe heading a corner straight into the ground, the bounce taking it over the bar in minute-47.
Last year’s beaten finalists were determined to get the item that would level the scores.
Petrotrin skipper Anthony Rougier was the offender in the 51st minute as he tripped Wolfe outside the box, giving the ‘San Juan Giants’ a free-kick from a threatening position.
The kick was floated across to the left and Wolfe made no mistake in heading home to make it 1-1.
And then came the moment Jabloteh fans had been waiting for.
A neat display of passing led to the ball being fed across goal for the talented Peltier to show no mercy by hammering home the winner.
It happened five minutes before the end and, in the process, saved the ‘Boys from San Juan’ the dreaded penalty shootout. Jabloteh face W Connection in the semi-finals next Friday at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium.

W Connection sound First Citizens warning.
By: James Saunders (ttproleague).

An outstanding hattrick by Hughton Hector was all it took for defending champions Vibe CT 105 W Connection to book their place in next weeks First Citizens Cup semi final against San Juan Jabloteh.
Despite the absence of skipper and injured striker Earl Jean the "Savonetta Boys" overcame a slow start to thump a ten-man Superstar Rangers 4-nil at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium in the first game of a First citizens Cup quarterfinals double header.
However, it was the St Anns side that had the first few attempts at goal when in the 9th minute striker Todd Ryan chested down a right-sided cross only to see his volley sail over-bar.
One minute later defender Don Morris’s swerving free kick had Connection goalie Jan Micheal-Williams at full stretch as it narrowly whizzed past his left vee.
However, the defending champions responded sharply with prolific marksman Andre Toussaint forcing a right-side corner, after his shot was deflected at the first post by Rangers keeper Jason Bowen.
Connections striker Mathew Bartholomew then spurned the chance to put his team ahead moments later when he headed wide at the first post from the ensuing corner kick.
Rangers refused to be outdone and retaliated with some attacks of their own.
In the 23rd minute Corneal Thomas had a shot on goal deflected to keeper Williams and Josimar Belgrave over hit an attempted lob after he sneaked through the heart of the Connection defence from a cheeky set play.
Loose defending caused the first goal of the match when Hector intercepted a bouncing ball at the edge of the Rangers penalty area before slipping a ball between two defenders for Andre Toussaint to slip past a hapless Bowen.
In the 43rd minute Hector thought he had increased the lead when he ran unto a lofted pass and lobbed the advancing keeper, however referee Russell Casimere ruled him offside.
Rangers lost Defender Don Morris early in the second half after he was red carded for an off the ball foul on Bartholomew.
The defending champions immediately made their advantage count when Hector collected on the left side cut unto his right foot and curled an unstoppable shot past the outstretched dive of Bowen.
Rangers refused to concede defeat however and forced keeper Williams into a series of fine saves.
However Connection went further ahead in the 72nd min when Hector drilled a neat shot from the right-side past into the back of the net.
It was all Connections’ game after that Superstar Rangers seemingly Gave up hope of a recovery.
Connection then sealed the game in the 83rd minute with Hector tucking the ball into the net off the body of the Rangers keeper, completing his hattrick and a comprehensive 4-0 win for Stuart Charles Fevrier's men.
The dominant W Connection will now meet their main rivals Jabloteh next week in the semis for a replay of last years final.

Starworld upset ten-man Joe Public.
By: Randy Bando (ttproleague).

Starworld Strikers upset the ‘Eastern Lions’, coming away 4-3 winners in a penalty shootout in the first match of a double header at the Larry Gomes Stadium on Friday in the First Citizens Cup quarterfinals.
The match went into penalties after the Pro League Leaders were held to a 1-1 draw by ‘underdogs’ Starworld Strikers. Both teams coached by former national goalkeepers displayed attacking football for the entire 90 minutes exciting patrons that came out in their numbers to see their local teams on show.
The ‘Macoya Men’ had the first shot on goal when in the 7th minute Gary Glasgow received a Lyndon Andrews pass before cutting inside of defender Jamal Ayres but goalkeeper Marvin Phillip easily handled his shot.
Joe Public’s Jamaican striker Roen Nelson then registered the first goal when he lashed on to a long ball cleared by his defence beat the Starworld offside trap and punished keeper Phillip in the 16th minute.
The San Fernando Starworld Strikers did most of the attacking in the game and enjoyed more ball possession.
Starworld’s Nigel Hart and Randolph Jerome enjoyed their game with full support of their midfield as they pressed for an equalizer.
The ‘Eastern Lions’ got a scare in the 36th minute, but Seon Power did well to clear a goal bound ball off his line.
New signing and substitute Devon Mitchell was close to doubling Joe Public’s lead in the 40th minute when he dribbled past defenders Stoute and Harper, but he shot wide of the upright.
Both teams showing a lot of purpose but failing to hit the target on many tries and going into the dressing rooms with the score remaining at 1-0 in favor of the ‘Eastern Lions’.
On the resumption Starworld had the first shot coming off a corner, when Jerome lurked at Public’s far post only to shoot off target when he received a flick on by Errol Charles in the 52nd minute.
Captain Marc Borde was also instrumental in the second half when he paired with Nigel Hart and they both continued to out play ‘Mc Commie’s men. The ‘San Fernando Boys’ frustrated players like, Michael Celestine, Abbssi Mc Pherson, Seon Power and Lyndon ‘Chubby’ Andrews who all received yellow cards.
Their pressure would finally pay off—Starworld received a free kick in the 61st minute after Jerome was fouled by Mc Pherson at the edge of the penalty area.
Defender Jamal Ayres stood tall as he blasted the ball into the roof of the net sending fans to their feet and Public’s players’ faces in their hands.
Shortly after the ‘Eastern Lions’ lost their ace striker Roen Nelson to injury and he was substituted in the 64th minute, their miseries were doubled when Jamaican defender Mc Pherson received a second yellow card and was given his marching orders leaving his team down to ten men.
Joe Public had two late shots well saved by keeper Marvin Phillip in the 85th and 88th minutes. It was Arnold Dwarika who missed out first when he failed to beat Phillip after receiving a long clearance, only to beat the keeper and his low shot was wrapped up. Then Glasgow had a fierce shot from outside the penalty area stopped with a diving block by Phillip.
It was referee Hospidales final whistle that ended the match at 1-1 and sending the players to the penalty spot.
In the penalty shootout—joe public strikers gary Glasgow and wolry wolfe both struck the post with their spot kicks—sending starworld celebrating a 4-3 victory.

‘Stars’ out Fire to book place in semi-final.
By: Gordon Pierre (ttproleague).

North East Stars booked a place in the semi-final of the First Citizens Cup with a 3-1 win over Neal& Massy Caledonia AIA in the second game of a double header at the Larry Gomes Stadium on Friday 15th September, 2006.
In what is fast becoming a very eagerly anticipated clash in the quarter final round of the First Citizens Cup, the Fast running physical ‘Grande Stars’ matched up with the smooth passing Caledonia AIA.
North East was first into stride with the speedy Shandell Samuel hitting over bar after a neat build up in the 6th minute.
Caledonia’s Jason Cudjoe missed an easy chance in the 13th minute when found himself unmarked at the top of the box.
After these early chances the two teams settled down and fought for supremacy in the mid-field with North East having the slightly better of the exchanges. In the 33rd minute, Conrad Smith made a nice run into the North East area but hit high over bar. A minute later North East Oneke Ford almost made Caledonia pay but he headed over bar from inside the 6 yard box.
The game continued at a pace with no team able to gain the upper hand on the other. The score remaining 0-0 at the half.
Seven minutes after the resumption North East Stars would get on the scorecard when a slip by the outstanding Radanfah Abu Bakr freed up the nippy Shandell Samuel who scored gleefully.
Abu Bakr was to make amends only ten minutes later when in the 63rd minute he scored from a beautifully taken free-kick from just outside the 18 yard box. Not to be outdone North East’s Oneke Ford was to match that free kick with one of his own when he score a rocket from just on top the 18 yard box—the ‘Sangre Grande Stars’ taking a 2-1 lead.
The game then became very physical with a number of fouls being committed by both teams. In the 81st minute North East Jesse Martinez could have finished off the game as a contested but he missed after a brilliant run by Samuel, which left him with the simple task of slotting home into an open goal.
Nine minutes later with Caledonia searching for the equalizer Stars Marc Leslie would score a well-taken goal to finish off Caledonia and book a semi-final spot in First Citizen Cup.
