Real Tales From Job Interviewers

Editor's Note: Vice presidents and personnel directors of the 100 largest corporations were recently asked to share their most unusual experiences interviewing prospective employees. Following are a few of those experiences:

1. An applicant challenged the interviewer to arm wrestle.

2. A candidate said he never finished high school because he was kidnapped and kept in a closet in Mexico.

3. An applicant interrupted the interview to phone her therapist for advice on how to answer specific interview questions.

4. A candidate asked the interviewer: "What is it that you people do at this company?"

5. An applicant asked: "What are the Zodiac signs of all the board members?"

6. Another applicant asked: "Does your company have a policy regarding concealed weapons?"

7. "I have no difficulty standing or holding a bowel movement," said another applicant.

8. "At times I have a strong urge to something harmful or shocking," volunteered another applicant.

9. "Women should not be allowed to drink in cocktail bars," said one job candidate.

10. "Once a week, I usually feel hot all over," said an applicant.
