Fatima, Tigers clash in North.
Central Zone kicks off today.
By: Kern De Freitas (Express).
Fatima College will be looking for a victory away to St Anthony's College to stay on the heels of defending North Zone champs, neighbours Mucurapo Senior Comprehensive, in today's BGTT Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) encounter at Westmoorings from 3.45 p.m.
Fatima are third in the standings behind the St Anthony's "Tigers", who are second on seven points after four matches, and leaders Mucurapo, who are three from three in the wins column for a maximum nine points.
The lone loss for the 2005 InterCol winners came against Mucurapo, who scored in the final minute to edge Fatima 3-2 in their season opener.
With a shaky start to the campaign, the Tigers, who narrowly lost 1-0 at home to Malick Senior Comprehensive and drew with newly-promoted Trinity College 2-2 last week, would be considered underdogs in today's fixture.
Another loss, or even a draw for Fatima will seriously dent their chances of dethroning Mucurapo and booking a "Big Five" national league playoff berth.
Mucurapo, meanwhile, will be expected to cash in when they face Malick, who lost their last affair 3-0 to Fatima, at Fatima's ground on Mucurapo Road.
St Mary's College earn a rest this round, while QRC face Trinity at home today.
Another interesting encounter will be the South Zone clash between Presentation College San Fernando and Princes Town Senior Comprehensive at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella from 5.30 p.m.
"Pres" are second on the South table with a slight edge over their opponents by a three-goal differential, but victory for either party will give them a three-point cushion over the other.
Presentation also have the opportunity to take the lead with a triumph, should Naparima fail to win.
This looks unlikely, though, as "Naps" face cellar-placed Fyzabad Composite at 3.30 in the earlier match at the Marabella stadium.
Moruga Composite host St Benedict's College in the third South fixture.
Vessigny are on a bye.
In the East, El Dorado Secondary Comprehen-sive battle Arima at El Dorado, while Hillview College meet Malabar Composite at Hillview, and St Augustine Secondary Comprehensive play at home against Toco Composite.
East leaders San Juan have the day off today.
And the Central Zone opens today, with champs Presentation College (Chaguanas) taking on Union Claxton Bay at Presentation, and Mara-bella Junior Secondary travelling to Tabaquite for their first match.
Chaguanas Senior Comprehensive and Carapichaima Senior Comprehensive kick off their campaigns with their encounter at Chaguanas. All matches, except for the Manny Ramjohn double-header, begin at 3.45 p.m.
