W Connection draw first blood.
…gain psychological boost for Friday’s Cup showdown.

Living up to expectation—the much-anticipated clash between Vibe CT 105 W Connection and CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh proved to be a thriller.
Despite only one goal being scored in 90 minutes of rugged but exciting football at the Mannie Ramjohn stadium, the match possessed end-to-end action.
By the time the smoke cleared it was Connection who walked away 1-0 winners, a result, which sees the ‘Savonetta Boys’ close in on their San Juan, rivals on the league standings and gives them a slight moral advantage going into Fridays all important First Citizens Cup semi-final face-off.
From the first blast of referee Julien Drayton’s whistle both teams showed that they had no intentions of succumbing on the night and it was as early as the first minute that W Connection created an opening when striker Andre Toussaint got unto the end of a long defensive clearance and sprinted past two defenders on the left and shot narrowly wide of Daurance Williams far post.
Jabloteh responded shortly after with world cup midfielder Aurtis Whitley seeing his fierce blast from on top the area deflected for a corner.
The game picked up pace shortly after with the defending league champions enjoying slightly more of the possession while Jabloteh threatened occasionally with some quick counter attacks of their own.
Connection were unlucky not to snatch the lead in the 17th minute when pacey forward Matthew Bartholomew connected with a Toussaint through ball, however the strikers toe poke only just missed the near post.
Moments later Bartholomew was gifted another opportunity when a Jabloteh defensive blunder left him with only Williams to beat but the striker somehow contrived to drag his shot wide from a tight angle.
Jabloteh tried to engineer some goal-scoring opportunities of their own with Wendell Joseph’s long-range effort falling safely into the hands Jan-Michael Williams.
Toussaint should have done better in the 25th minute when he got on the end of an errant pass from Duarance Williams, however with the keeper in no-mans land the forward failed to control the ball properly and was eventually robbed of possession.
Jabloteh’s best chance of the half came in the 33rd minute when Jason Marcano’s quick turn and shot from outside the area had to be acrobatically fisted away by the Connection keeper diving to his right.
It was just two minutes before half time as both teams seemed to cancel each other out that ‘the boy’s from Savonetta got the breakthrough.
With his teammates still appealing an overturned penalty for a foul on Bartholomew inside the opposition penalty area, Christian Viveros got on the end of a rolling ball just outside the box and slammed a low drive to the right of Williams for what turned out to be the game winner.
In the second half, which was marred by some ugly incidents and unruly situations that forced, referee Drayton to issue four yellow cards, Jabloteh pressed continuously for an equalizer, but despite the best work of Whitley and substitute Kerry Noray none was forthcoming.
W Connection also continued to create chances looking to end the contest, Bartholomew seeing his header cleared off the line by an uncompromising Jabloteh defence.
In the end one goal was good enough to give "the Savonetta Boys" victory and set up an anxiously awaited must see encounter between the teams on Friday where the winner will progress to First Citizens Cup final.
Jabloteh would also be keen to get another bite of the cherry and avenge their latest and most costly slip up to date.

Referee: Julien Drayton
