Carapichamia Senior Secondary maintained the lead at the top of the BGTT Central Zone Secondary School standings, with a 3-1 win against defending champions, Presentation College, Chaguanas, in the second match of a double-header yesterday, at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Balmain, Couva.
“Caps,” coached by former national midfielder Leon Carpette, lead the table with a maximum nine points, following an easy victory against the mediocre “Pres” outfit. Midfieler Trent Loughdeed opened the scoring for Caps in the 10th minute, for a 1-0 lead at the interval.
After the break, Caps benefitted from an own goal in the 55th minute from Pres defender Abi Pollard.
Under the urgings of coach Glenford Thomas, Pres lifted its game and managed to pull back one through Marvin Manswell in the 70th minute. However, whatever chances Pres had of coming back into the game were laid to rest when nippy forward Kareem Beckles scored in the 80th minute.
In the first match of evening, the third round of the competition, “giant killer” Marabella Junior Secondary continued its fine run with a 2-0 victory against bottom of the six-team standings, Union/Claxton Bay Comprehensive. Prolific striker Seandell Campbell opened the scoring for the Marabella boys in the 42nd minute, while Aitken Wright ensured his team went into the interval with a 2-0 cushion, when he scored on the stroke of half-time. On the resumption, UCB gave an improved performance to deny Marabella any further goals with some stout defending.
At Chaguanas, a 52nd-minute goal by Marshall James gave Chaguanas Senior Secondary a 1-0 win over Tabaquite Composite. It was the first win of the season for the well conditioned Rudolph Bernard charges.
St Augustine Senior Secondary demolished Malabar Composite 6-0 at the Larry Gomes Stadium in Arima, Monday, to move to the top of the BG TT Secondary Schools Football League's east zone standings.
Daniel Joseph continued his fine run of scoring form with two goals. James Brown also netted twice, while Ryan O'Neil and Gyasi Joyce got on the scoresheet as well. Leaders St Augustine are just one point ahead of San Juan Senior Secondary.
In Tobago, at Roxborough, Bishop’s High School, with goals on either side of half-time, registered a 2-0 victory over Roxborough Composite. Sean Davis sent the visitors ahead with a 26th minute penalty, while Jevon Jackson sealed the issue in the 70th minute. Matches in the Central Zone will continue tomorrow, and in Tobago on Saturday. Meanwhile, matches in the North, East and South Zone will be contested today.
