Whitley shoots Jabloteh into F.A. quarterfinals.
By: Randy Bando (ttproleague).

Substitute Aurtis Whitley became defending FA Cup Champions CL financial San Juan Jabloteh’s hero shortly after the hour mark, when he scored the only goal of the match to beat fellow Pro League outfit B Mobile Joe Public 1-0 in the opening round of FA Trophy action at the Larry Gomes Stadium on Wednesday.
This was Jabloteh’s second consecutive 1-0 win over the Eastern Lions this week.
Jabloteh put on a second period performance to show how determined they were on defending their FA trophy and it was no fluke in Saturday’s win in the second round of Lucozade Sport Big Six competition last Saturday.
But it was Joe Public who looked better with attacks in the first period as they tried to get revenge for their 1-0 loss over the weekend.
Striker Roen Nelson burst past defenders Akiel Guevara and Nigel Daniel in the 14th minute to send a low shot past oncoming goal keeper Daurance Williams but striker Gary Glasgow somehow failed to make contact with the ball in front of an open net.
Later in the 22nd minute striker Glasgow created space for himself in midfield but shot well wide of the Jabloteh’s goal.
And two minutes later Jamaican striker Wolry Wolfe got into the action himself and had a long range shot which skidded wide of the post also.
Then Jabloteh’s closest chance came in the 27th minute when young sensation Lester Peltier played a pass into the penalty area for Peter Prosper, but he missed the entire ball as he attempted a shot on goal under pressure from defender Lyndon Diaz.
And in the same minute Public’s Gary Glasgow was played into the Jabloteh area with a neat pass from Dale Saunders but he squandered it wide.
Jabloteh’s national defender Nigel Daniel then wasted a 20 yard free kick well wide of goal keeper Jacomeno Barett in the 37th minute.
Three minutes later midfielder Kerry Batiste released a low long pass from the centre circle splitting Public’s defence and finding Jason Marcano, but his left footed shot crashed into the side netting.
As Joe Public pushed forward with every given chance, a golden opportunity fell to the feet of striker Gary Glasgow who was free on top of the penalty area in the 43rd minute but he failed to shoot past oncoming goal keeper Daurance Williams who came well off his line.
The Macoya based team then had to make a premature substitution just before the half when Jason Springer fell awkwardly injuring his left arm as Coach Michael Mc Commie introduced Michael Lee Celestine.
With no goals and heated players, temperatures rose and five minutes into the second period a tussle between both teams occurred after Jabloteh’s Lester Peltier and Public’s Abbssi Mc Pherson clashed which saw Kerry Baptiste being booked by referee John Danouse.
But from then on Jabloteh took control of the match denying the ‘Macoya Men’ any further attacks on goal.
In the 55th minute the Public goal was threatened by three consecutive shots—the first two coming from Jason Marcano and Peter Prosper and the final shot coming from Kerry Baptiste, which was saved by goal keeper Barett.
Coach Terry Fenwick then boosted his team replacing Akiel Guevara with World Cup midfielder Aurtis Whitley in the 59th minute and the Public defence felt his presence almost immediately.
Whitley sent former teammate and Public’s newcomer Dexter Franklyn both ways before having a 24-yard shot wide of goal.
Dexter Franklyn playing in his first match for the Macoya based unit surely pleased his new boss with a solid performance at the back.
In the 66th minute world cup sensation Whitley punished goalkeeper Barett from 20 yards out to put Jabloteh 1-0 up with his right-footed blast after a scrambled ball fell nicely for him.
The ‘San Juan Kings’ continued to move forward with attack after attack and in the 69th minute Kerry Baptiste did extremely well to meet substitute Anthony Wolfe’s cross but volleyed it wide first time.
In the 75th minute Wolfe got into action again pairing up with Jason Marcano but the end result was poor after Peter Prosper fired high over bar from inside the penalty area.
Soon afterwards the encounter turned ugly with a flow of fouls and two Joe Public players being booked as Jabloteh maintained control of the match to the final whistle. Jabloteh moving on in the F.A. Cup, while the Eastern Lions have experienced another early exit from a knockout competition this season.

Young Connection stroll past QPCC in F.A.
By: Jovan Ravello (ttproleague).

A youthful W Connection outfit scored a convincing 3-0 win over Queens Park in the TTFF’s F.A. Trophy Round of 16 match at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella on Wednesday evening.
Despite Connection being the obvious favorites there were early indications in the midfield that QPCC did not make the trip to South Trinidad just to show up.
The North Zone campaigners kept their shape well in the early exchanges to keep the Savonetta Boys in check. That was until an 11th minute penalty gave Connection the lead.
A new Brazilian import Diego Fernando Zanetti and QPCC defender Warren Rostant went up for a Silvio Spann right sided cross, Rostant was adjudged by the referee to have handled the ball and the kick was awarded.
Another young Connection player Christian Almas obligingly put the spot kick away for a 1-0 connection lead.
The goal added to Connection’s confidence and they began to stroke the ball around the midfield in search of another.
In the 16th Silvio Spann shot wide from eight yards out off Andrei Pacheco’s early cross, two minutes later Almas had a chance to make it 2-0 but his shot at the end of Gefferson Goulart’s through ball was parried wide by Shepard.
Brenton De Leon’s 19th minute right sided cross was quickly cleared by Rostant with Zanetti in close attendance as Connection continued to apply pressure from the right wing with the lanky Zanetti being the main target for a series of well-weighted sharp crosses.
Despite this, QPCC never looked badly beaten and their strong-armed approach to the match would have earned them some on-field respect.
QPCC got its first look at goal in the 32nd but Atiba Roberts could not round Connection Kerwin Beckles after a sharp passing sequence cut open the Connection defence and left him alone with the ‘keeper.
In the 34th minute QPCC had its first free-kick at the edge of the Connection box hit well over by Bryan Cumberbatch.
Husani Thomas hit the base of Shepard’s near post with a stiff low shot in the 38th the shot was all that the half had remaining in it and it brought an end to a well contested first 45 minutes.
On the restart things remained the same as Connection continued to hold the ball for lengthy periods and QPCC sought to equalize on the counter-attack.
With neither team giving up anything in defence there was hardly any goalmouth action instead the match became a keen midfield battle Connection was however, still looking for the goal that would end the game as a contest and in 62nd Goulart cracked a shot over bar from just 25 yards out.
In the 68th Pacheco’s shot at the end of a blistering solo run was spilled by Shepard, but there was no one to pick up the scraps.
A minute after Spann had to be stretchered off to mark the end of a steady night’s work.
Second-half substitute Kerron Smith could have doubled his team’s advantage but for Shepard’s aggressive goalkeeping, the custodian coming off his line to smother the chance.
Then Christian Viveros was denied by another spectacular Shepard save off the resulting corner.
Goulart’s scuffed effort off Dwight Scott’s early cross in the 77th minute was easily wrapped up by Shepard, who was answering all questions asked of him on the evening.
In the 82nd minute he gave away a free-kick after leaving his area with the ball in hand. Anthony was sent off for using obscene language to Ramkallawan during the melee surrounding the kick, but luckily Almas shot was hit straight into the wall and ten-man QPCC fought on.
Kerron Smith, a 51st minute sub’ for Zanetti, put away a sitter in the 87th after Almas cross from inside the area left Shepard stranded and the goal open to kill the match off late on.
In the 89th, Goulart put yet another shot over bar.
And in the last minute of extra time, just before the final whistle, Pacheco got the goal his efforts deserved as his shot from 20 yards out took a meaty deflection and wrong footed Shepard on its way in. The defending Pro League Champions coming away 3-0 winners and will now move on to the quarterfinals of the F.A. Cup.

Teams:

W Connection: - Kerwin Beckles, Brenton De Leon, Husani Thomas, Andrei Pacheco, Diego Fernando Zanetti (Kerron Smith 51st), Christian Almas, Jerren Johnson, Felinto Dos Santos, Gefferson Goulart, Silvio Spann (Dwight Scott 71st), Christian Viveros.

QPCC: - Jason Shepard, Bisharda Anthony, George Busby, Warren Rostant, Bryan Cumberbatch (Mark Pierre 73rd), Dale Tavares, Atiba Roberts, Stuart Rostant (Maurice Simpson 65th), Dexter Gill, Colm De Freitas, Brendon Barry.
North East Stars stumbles past ‘Dread’ in FA.
By: Randy Bando (ttproleague).

Two-second half goals were needed by Pro League outfit North East Stars against House of Dread for a 2-1 win as they secured their spot in the quarterfinals of the 2006 FA Trophy Competition when they faced each other at the Squadron Ground, Arouca.
After leading the Sangre Grande based team 1-0 after the first period, House of Dread failed to hold on to their lead after the half as North East Stars equalized then finished things off with a late penalty.
The Pro League outfit looked promising from the 8th minute of play when striker Oneke Forde notched the ball to the back of House of Dread’s net but it was ruled offside by the assistant referee.
North East Stars started showing early signs of frustrations playing on an unfamiliar muddy unleveled surface with the ball holding up on many occasions.
Then House of Dread got into their game and showed how much they were accustomed playing on their home ground making the ‘Sangre Grande Boys’ miserable.
The home team nearly made North East pay in the early stages with a mistake by the defence when Rondell Shields fired a shot across the face of goal in the 11th minute.
Soon afterwards ‘Stars’ striker Oneke Ford shot over bar from 18 yards out after Jesse Martinuez worked his way down the muddy left to swing in a cross.
In the 18th minute ‘Dread’s Rodell Shields had another shot wide and three minutes later Stevon Stoute raced down the left to sting a shot across the face of goal forcing a corner.
The home team continued to attack and in the 23rd minute Akiel Paynter header on goal from a Joel Waldron’s cross was to weak for goalkeeper Curtis Granger.
North East Stars Oneke Ford and Kenwin Matthew seemed heavy as they both failed to get a shot on goal after beating the home defence in the 32nd minute.
A short while later former national player Stokley Mason tried to place to ball into the net from on top of the penalty area but his effort was easily collected by House of Dread goalkeeper, Shawn Farrier in the 36th minute.
House of Dread then took the lead in the 40th minute after Steven Stoute shot past goalkeeper Curtis Granger with a pass from Oral Burgess for the 1-0 lead shocking the North East bench.
As North East tried desperately to get familiar with the surface, winger Marc Leslie made room for himself above the penalty area but skied his effort over bar just before the break.
House of Dread returned to the field in control while the North East players were slipping and sliding all over the place.
North East then tried to make the best of Kevin Jeffrey’s 19 yard free kick but Vernon Bailey headed over bar after beating the defenders to the ball in the 60th minute.
Two minutes later Marc Leslie missed another clear chance after a defensive error when he shot directly at goal keeper Farrier.
And as coach Everald ‘Gally’ Cummings was about to replace striker Kenwin Matthew a change a luck
hit the player as he netted the equalizer in the 62nd minute causing his coach to hold back on his substitution. Matthew rocketed the ball past goalkeeper Farrrier from inside the penalty area to level the score at 1-1.
Boosted by his teammate goal Vernon Bailey worked a shot of his own two minutes later to lift the spirits of the entire North East team although his attempt flew high.
The ‘Sangre Grande Boys’ surely proved they were professionals over the House of Dread team and played them on fitness.
North East then continued to have the better buildups and more attacks on goal. In the 75th minute substitute Keryn Navarro saw his shot on goal desperately cleared off the line by Alvin Gueverra and three minutes later Vernon Bailey’s 18-yard shot was saved by goal keeper Farrier.
In the 82nd minute of play goal keeper Farrier brought down Stokley Mason on his way to goal inside his area as referee Mc Phie awarded the Pro League outfit a penalty.
Vernon Bailey grasped the opportunity and made sure he scored blasting the ball into the roof of the House of Dread net giving goal keeper Farrier no chance as North East Stars took and held on to a 2-1 advantage.

Jagdeosingh leads Caledonia to F.A. Quarters.
By: Gordon Pierre (ttproleague).

In a game marred by questionable refereeing decisions, Caledonia AIA got pass Joe Public(EFA) 4-1 as the opening round of the F.A. trophy competition kicked off on Wednesday evening.
The game saw the two teams take a while to settle and it was Caledonia that had the first chance on goal, when Conrad Smith shot wide in the 5th minute.
After this both teams tried to control the game and it was not until the 17th minute that any team had a chance at goal when Hayden Tinto dispossessed Dominic Hutchinson but he shot wide. A minute later Jamel Lewis turned a Kareem Joseph cross into his own goal for a 1-0 Caledonia lead.
In the 24th minute Conrad Smith hit wide after a good build up between Stephen Cruickshank and Kareem Joseph.
Dexter Thornhill got Public on level terms in 44th minute when he ran on to a Travis Mulraine through ball, 1-1 at the half.
The second half started with a lot of action and in the 48th minute Caledonia was awarded a questionable penalty after Jovan Rochford was adjudged to have fouled Kareem Joseph in the penalty box.
Jagdeosingh scored the resulting penalty, 2-1 Caledionia’s lead restored. Four minutes later Jageosingh could have had an early double but he shot straight at Joe Public’s keeper Jevon Bourne after a good cross by Kareem Joseph.
In the 54th minute Jagdeosingh was to make amends when he fired home a bullet from on top the 18 yard box after Joe Public keeper was hurt in a collision with Hayden Tinto 3-1.
The game then got very physical with the referee seeming to be unable to control the game. In the 69th minute Jagdeosingh should have had his hattrick but his header was weak after a good cross by Kareem Joseph.
Three minutes later national midfielder Densill Theobald had his shot brilliantly saved by keeper Bourne.
In the 75th minute the upright denied Jagdeosingh his hattrick for a second time, with time winding down Caledonia sub Anthony Thompson scored after a mix up in the Joe Public defence—4-1 Caledionia with 2 minutes remaining. Caledonia moving on and will now await the quarter final draw.

It ridiculous the amount of over bar and shot wide that I read in these articles. Man getting one and one with keeper and failing to convert. It sounds like the guys need to do some shooting drills.

A ninth minute strike by Conrad Smith was enough for Caledonia AIA to get past rivals San Juan Jabloteh in the semi-final round of the 2007 FA Trophy competition on Thursday night at the Marvin Lee Stadium.

Caledonia now meet Joe Public in the final on Wednesday, which is expected to take place at the same Marvin Lee Stadium in Macoya.

Joe Public edged United Petrotrin 2-1 in the earlier match of the semi-final double header.

But Jabloteh would have themselves to blame for what can be described as a scrappy performance.

The ‘San Jun Kings’ missed out the first real chance of the match when in the 8th minute Antiguan striker Peter Byers scrapped the far post with his shot on goal.

But less than a minute later Conrad Smith had the ball in the back of the net for Caledonia lobbing goalkeeper Cleon John brilliantly for a 1-0 advantage.

Caledonia had a decent opportunity to double their advantage in the 20th minute after Hayden Tinto sent substitute Dwight Peters down the right and he made a telling cross inside the Jabloteh area, only for Conrad Smith to crossover and Marvin Oliver to control and spike high and wide.

Five minutes later Smith had a powerful go at goal from inside the area but Cleon John wasn’t intimidated making a strong block.

Conrad Smith had another opportunity for the ‘Stallions’ in the 34th minute but the T&T international struck wide.

Jason Marcano tried a similar Conrad Smith strike in the 35th minute for Jabloteh when he tried to lob the ball into the back of the net after a collision between goalkeeper and defender, but his finish ended on top of the net.

In the 42nd minute Charles Pollard was close to converting into the back of his own net in a desperate clearance from inside his area.

Disappointingly Conrad Smith spilled another one wide for Caledonia from inside the area shortly before the half time whistle, but the ‘Stallions’ were able to maintain their 1-0 lead heading in at the interval.

Jabloteh may have enjoyed living in Caledonia’s half in the second period but soured with their few chances—Peter Byers flying a Lester Peltier cross high over bar on the hour mark being one of those dreadful moments.

One minute later Jason Marcano had a tame roll of a shot at goalkeeper Andre Durant on loan from Tobago United.

In the 66th minute Marvin Oliver had a 23yard free kick on target for the ‘Stallions’ but without pace and was covered by Cleon John.

Jabloteh never found rhythm but were able to struck the upright in their best effort. It was two minutes after coming on, Cornell Glen struck the upright in the 74th minute after a long throw-in by Peter Byers and a header back on top of the area by Marcano created the opportunity.

The ‘San Juan Kings’ ended their poor performance with the sending off of midfielder Khaleem Hyland in added on time after receiving consecutive yellow cards by referee Lee Davis.

Connection survive fresh farce

Connection survive fresh farce
By Lasana Liburd (Trinidad Express)

W. Connection escaped another rescheduled fixture yesterday evening as the late intervention of an electrician rescued their T&TFF FA Trophy clash with A to Z United, which was initially called off due to malfunctioning lights at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva.

It was the only scare Connection received yesterday evening as they cruised to a 5-1 win over the Central Football Association (CFA) team after being three goals clear by the halftime break.

The 2008 Pro League runners-up started a largely second string outfit but were still easily superior. Connection cruised to a three-goal lead within the opening 20 minutes as Teba McKnight, Ishmael Daniel and Kerron Smith all cashed in on the nerves-if not the poor technical skills-of A to Z custodian John Richardson.

After a half hour punctuated by dropped catches, Richardson was furiously rubbing the back of his head while looking imploringly at the near empty substitute's bench. A to Z, as it turned out, failed to walk with proper identification for six of their players and managed to register just 14 players for their biggest game this season.

There seemed to be a reprieve of sorts for Richardson at the halftime interval when lights went out at the Couva venue, the operational base for the Sports Company of Trinidad and Tobago, and several players had already showered when, after a 45-minute lapse, the lights flickered back on.

A to Z started the second half with gusto but were soon four goals behind as Connection substitute Ronaldo Viana scored with a well placed free kick in the 60th minute. And, finally, Richardson was replaced by his imperiously named deputy, Gadaffie Mohammed.

Mohammed actually held on to a cross, albeit on the second attempt, and fended out a Smith drive before another experienced Connection sub, Hughton Hector, beat him with a fierce drive in the 77th minute.

But there was some consolation as, in a rare expedition in the opposing penalty area, Andy Garcia fell over while being embraced by Connection's Colombian defender Eder Gilmar Aras and a penalty was awarded.

Bobby Sookraj's spot kick was blocked by the legs of another Connection South American import, Brazilian goalkeeper Murilo Da Costa, but Sookraj followed up successfully with his head.

It was as good as it got for the vastly outplayed zonal outfit.

Pro-League powerhouses mince FA opponents
By Randy Bando (ttproleague.com)

TT Pro League powerhouses CLICO San Juan Jabloteh and W Connection embarrassed their FA Trophy preliminary round opponents of the Central Football Association Harlem Strikers and A-Z United respectively at the Ato Boldon Stadium.

Jabloteh, winners of the 2008 Pro League Championship and Lucozade Sport Big Six titles, crushed Harlem 7-0 in the second fixture while W Connection had a handful, 5-1 against A-Z.

Up at the Hasely Crawford Stadium training ground, St Ann’s Rangers cruised past Hills United 5-0 and at the QRC Grounds Defence Force (Pro League) whipped T&T Coast Guard/Air Guard 6-0.

In the other Pro League related results neal and Massy Caledonia AIA downed Joe Public East Football Association club 2-0 at the Marvin Lee Stadium, defending FA Champions Joe Public whipped Atomic Youth Movement 3-1 at the Damarie Hill ground in Sangre Grande. And the clash between Pro League outfits United Petrotrin and North East Stars saw the Grande based club surface 1-0 winners at the Guaracara Park.

Teba McKnight opened the scoring in the 6th minute blasting past goalkeeper John Richardson from outside the area leaving the A-Z United goalie cluless as W Connection took an early grasp.

The Pro League boys where at it again with Ismael Daniel heading  in W Connection’s second item past the hapless A-Z goalie from a freekick in the 17th minute for a 2-0 advantage.

And Kerron Smith made it 3-0 by the 23rd minute hitting past defender Brent Roberts after goalkeeper Richardson was left beating inside his six yard area.

Smith failed to add another in the 33rd minute when goalkeeper Richardson stuck his leg out to block out the Connection striker’s left footed effort.

Second half introduction Ronaldo Viana slipped the fourth item past Richardson from 23 yard free kick on the hour mark two minutes after Kerron Smith was denied at close range by the A-Z goalie.

A-Z then replaced goalkeeper Richardson with Gadafie Mohammed after the first choice in goal complained of a neck injury since the first period.

W Connection used the opportunity to make a couple changes themselves introducing Hughton Hector and Dwight Scott at the expense of Andrei Pacheco and Nicholson Thomas.

Hector got himself piece of the pie blasting past the substitute A-Z goalie Mohammed in the 77th minute powerfully from 25 yards out as the Savonnetta Boys enjoyed a healthy 5-0 score.

But 10 minutes from time A-Z was awarded a penalty after Colombian defender Eder Aras fouled Bobby Sookraj inside the area and pulled back a goal.

Sookraj made a diving header to put the ball past goalkeeper Murilo Da Costa after the W Connection goalie made a good block to keep out the initial kick from the spot as A-Z United pulled one back however the result  was in favour of the Pro League outfit W Connection 5-1 in the end.

In the second encounter between the 2008 Pro League champions, Jabloteh and Harlem Strikers(CFA) the goal spree continued.

After a few wide efforts by Jabloteh, team captain Trent Noel led by example in the 35th minute piercing a right footed shot through Harlem Strikers goalie after a neat pass forward by Jason Marcano.

One minute later midfielder Atulla Guerra gave the San Juan Kings a 2-0 cushion blasting a 23 yard shot into the roof of the net after evading his man.

Harlem Strikers made one run inside the Jabloteh half in the first period but were short of the 18 yard area as the Pro League outfit dominated in full adding two more goals.

Lester Peltier made it 3-0 in the 40th minute hitting a powerful shot from inside the area and seconds later it was 4-0 when Beville Joseph walked past the Harlem Strikers defence to slip the ball past goalkeeper Ita Charles and into the net.

Jabloteh had a few late efforts midfielder Willis Plaza was wide by a couple feet of getting his name on the Jabloteh scoresheet three minutes from the break and in the 44th Trent Noel guided a as the 2008 TT pro League

Following the break Terry Fenwick never looked to back down and introduced ace forward Jerrol Forbes replacing Beville Joseph.

However Fenwick found himself out of favour with referee Phillip Jordan in the 57th minute for misconduct after disagreeing with a call made against his player by the official and was ejected from the Jabloteh bench.

But the Jabloteh charges continued adding the goals with substitute Jerrol Forbes smacking in the fifth item in the 68th minute after a brilliant run down the flank by substitute Julien Landeau to play the ball inside the area for the powerfully built forward as the Kings had total control 5-0.

And when Lester Peltier added the sixth item in the 73rd minute completing his double against Central Football Association club many would have thought that the Pro League club would be generous to settle for their 6-0 score.

But the Kings mounted even more pressure on the depleted Strikers with Marcano having a shot on goal which goalkeeper Ita Charles and Forbes flashing an effort wide.

Four minutes from time Peltier sneaked one past goalkeeper Ita Charles however denied by the upright after a blistering run down the flank.

And in the final minute of regular time Jason Marcano struck the lucky ‘seventh’ item when he looped the ball over displaced goalkeeper Ita Charles after a long clearance by Julien Landeau for a 7-0 win.

The next Round of the FA Trophy competition will come off on Sunday.

Caledonia start FA defence in style with 6-0 win.
By Joel Bailey (T&T Newsday).

Caledonia AIA started their FA Trophy defence in style on Sunday night, spanking Queen’s Park (Super League) 6-0 in the second of back-to-back matches at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Malabar.

National midfielder Keon Daniel netted a pair, in the 10th and 90th (penalty), while Randolph Jerome (29th penalty), Akim Armstrong (36th), Densil Theobald (38th) and Ryan Stewart (85th) adding one apiece.

The Parkites’ Northern Football Association (NFA) club fared no better, as they were thrashed 8-0 by San Juan Jabloteh, with Hector Sam recording a beaver-trick (18th, 21st, 22nd and 70th penalty), Jerrel Britto a double (25th and 83rd), Ataullah Guerra (45th) and Willis Plaza (61st).

Joe Public had a triple success on Sunday, with their three teams all emerging victorious.

At their home ground at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya, Joe Public’s Super League team hammered Valencia United 7-0, with strikes from Dorian Robinson (fifth and 83rd), Dexter Thornhill (27th), Michael Waldron (31st), Keon Piper (33rd), Keston Jordan (56th) and Kareem Joachim (85th).

The Pro League kings registered the most lop-sided win, a 12-0 humiliation of Grand Lagoon United – Conrad Smith netted four goals (30th, 55th, 60th and 70th), Akiel Guevara got a hat-trick (25th, 35th and 44th penalty), Carlyle Mitchell (66th and 80th), and one apiece from Jesse Brown (own goal – eighth), Gorean Highley (75th) and Seon Power (85th).

Joe Public’s Eastern Football Association team completed a fine day for the Macoya-based outfit, as they edged Club Sando 1-0, through Kevaughn Cornwall (39th), in the second of back-to-back matches at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella.

TTEC took care of St Mary’s United 3-1 in the opening match at Marabella, with Kern Peters (16th), Joel Bailey (72nd) and Sylvester Teesdale (90th) on target for TTEC, while Alpha Rodriguez (77th) got the lone item for St Mary’s.

The pair of matches at the Plymouth Recreation Ground were one-sided affairs.

In the first encounter, Ma Pau spanked 1976 FC Phoenix 7-1 with strikes from Rennie Britto (third and 59th), Anthony Wolfe (45th and 63rd), Kevin Molino (fifth), Shandel Samuel (30th) and Trevin Caesar (81st) while Jeremy Stewart (66th) pulled one back for Phoenix.

And Defence Force’s Pro League squad cruised past Stokely Vale 5-0, with two goals apiece from Jerwyn Balthazar (17th and 70th) and Balondemu Julius (88th and 90th) and one from Kevon Carter (86th).

Two out of three matches on Sunday – the double-header at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva – were decided by kicks from the penalty spot.

W Connection overcame FC South End 3-0, following a 1-1 draw after 120 minutes of regulation and extra time, with Jose Carlos Diaz putting Connection ahead in the eighth minute but Eddison Smart equalised in the 90th.

Earlier at Couva, Valtrin United eliminated K Brands SC 3-0 in the shootout, after a 2-2 score-line. In normal time, Akil Paynter (11th) and Larnel St Hilaire (24th) put Valtrin 2-0 ahead before K Brands responded with items from Jonathan Marcelle (47th) and Lester Edwards (81st).

The other game which ended in a penalty shootout, saw Siparia Spurs getting the better of Roxborough Lakers 5-4, after the game was tied at 1-1. Kerwyn Baptiste broke the deadlock for Siparia in the 99th minute before Dwight Reid tied the scores in the 115th.

United Petrotrin cruised into the second round courtesy of a 4-1 thrashing of the aptly-named Strugglers at Guaracara Park, Pointe-a-Pierre. National Under-20 striker Juma Clarence netted a hat-trick (47th, 72nd and 79th) after Luis Lima put Petrotrin ahead in the 20th. Kemuel Rivers notched Strugglers’ consolation in the 89th.

Defence Force’s Super League squad also advanced to the next stage with a 4-3 win over Leeds FC. Dwight Scott, Allister Ramlochan, Keseon Theodore and Akil Pierre were the goal-getters for Defence Force while Rondell Harris, Marcus Blackette and Ryan Edwards replied for Leeds. Dathea Football Academy registered a 3-0 triumph over Malvern FC at the Dibe Recreational Ground, Maraval.

Two games were cancelled due to unfit grounds – Biche United against Palo Seco at the Biche Recreation Ground (Palo Seco won by default); and TT Air Guard/Coast Guard versus Economy Strikers at the Squadron Ground, Arouca.

The Second Round is scheduled to take place on November 23.

At Couva, Palo Seco will face Joe Public (EFA) while Connection will have a tough task against Jabloteh. At Marabella, the winner of the Air Guard/Coast Guard-Economy game will face Siparia while Petrotrin will meet TTEC.

At Arima, the Joe Public’s Super League and Pro League sides will meet Ma Pau and Dathea respectively while, at Macoya, the Defence Force’s Super League and Pro League outfits will oppose Valtrin and Caledonia respectively.

The double-headers will kick off at 5 pm.
Caledonia cruises into last 16.
By: Nigel Simon (T&T Guardian).

Caledonia opened the scoring in the 10th minute through Keon Daniel.

Guyana’s Randolph Jerome (28th penalty), Akim Armstrong (36th) and Densill Theobold (38th) also found the target for a 4-0 lead at the half.

Who set up that draw Connection/Jabloteh, Cali/DF??????

Very good question. Isn't it strange that all Joe Public's teams have easy passage. I have been informed that the draw was supposed to have been tomorrow (Wednesday), but lo & behold it was done yesterday without the Clubs being present. But then again in the land of the TTFF, Jack Warner/Joe Public is King.

Do you know who you protest to, it is CFU, who is CFU? Jack!!!!!! Matches were supposed to have been played every Sunday & the Final on the Wednesday 9th of Dec. that too was changed yesterday. The only protest would be to boycott but guess what this would just make it easier for Joe Public & you would be playing right into TTFF/Jack's hands. Then some of us would be calling the boycotting Clubs stupid etc.
Are you aware of the amount of disciplinary decisions made by the TT Pro League that have been overturned by the TTFF, eg Fenwick vs Goulart & most recently the incident between Petrotrin & Joe Public.
As long as Jack Warner has a team in local football there will always be the perception that his Club will receive special treatment from even Officials e.g the Referees because they depend on Jack for a bligh.
Joe Public have played two finals on their home turf recently, FCB vs DEfence Force & Toyota Cup against Jablo. Now don't come with the argument that Connection finals used to be played at Mannie Ramjohn, Connection's home ground is Ato Boldon this is where they train, not at Mannie whereas Marvin Lee is Joe Public's home ground, this is where they train every day.
If you could advise the other Clubs as to how to get around protesting against the TTFF, I am sure thay they would welcome it.

I understand where you coming from, but you telling me if every club in T&T protest to FIFA in public then nothing will change ?

Who Joe Public will play if all the other teams protest and deside to make a stand againt the TTFF (just asking) ?

If everybody stand up and say something together the TTFF will have to fix the problem. What happen behind close doors is another story.

This is realy bull shit by the TTFF, somebody needs to beat Jack like a Judas.

Sam, I fully agree with you, but protest to FIFA, what will they do. Check the amount of accusations levelled against Jack, most recently, the 2006 World Cup Tickets fiasco what did FIFA do.
The only thing to do is for all Football to cease in T&T, but you want to bet that there are a couple clubs including some in the Pro League who for one reason or the other are indebted to Jack who will find reasons as to why there should be no boycott. If the Government gets involved then FIFA will come in & ban T&T and many of us including some on this board will lambaste the Govt for interfering, & Jack is aware of all of this.
Honestly I am beginning to get fed up.
I am willing to bet that in the next round of the FA that the winner of Jablo/Connection will play the winner of Cali/DF. The team Joe Public is playing Dathea Football Academy (this is the first time that I am hearing about this Academy). Next round Joe Public Pro League will play Joe Public Super League or Joe Public East zone or some other weak side. I can give so many examples of wrongdoing by TTFF & Jack. Take for example all the years that Jablo & Connection have won the Caribbean Club Championship there was never ever a Trophy or medals, all they got was the title, but lo & behold the first year that Joe Public is in the final there is a Trophy & Medals but as the Good Lord would have it they lost & HarborView of Jamaica won. The only good thing is that now they have to continue giving the winners the Trophy and Medals, because to stop now would show them up.
Somebody please advise what can be done to right this so so very very wrong.

As bad as the TTFF is, I don't want any T&T teams lose to Jamaican clubs. Sorry...

Hector fires Connection into FA semifinals
By Nigel Simon (T&T Guardian)

Soca Warriors forward, Hughton Hector scored a hat-trick as Pro League giants W Connection hammered Eastern Football Association FA winners, Valtrin United 5-1 in their T&T Football Federation FA Trophy competition quarterfinal clash. This was in the first match of a double-header on a wet and rainy night at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva.

Hector, who made his international debut for T&T in the failed 2010 South Africa Concacaf World Cup qualifying campaign, opened the scoring in the second minute before he added another in the 31st minute for a 2-0 lead. Four minutes before the interval, Valtrin boasting a number of fomer Secondary Schools Football League players reduced the deficit through a strike from Nathan Lewis to give themselves hopes of an upset.

However, on the resumption, W Connection, FA winners in 1999, 2000 and 2002 asserted themselves and made it 3-1 via strike from Colombian defender Christian Viveros before Mexican Jose Carlos Diaz (81st) and Hector, four minutes from the end added to the scoring to complete a 5-1 drubbing and a chance at a second title this season, having won the Pro League's Lucozade Sports Goal Shield. Up at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya, Kerry Daniel netted an 89th minute equaliser for title-holder, Caledonia AIA of Morvant/Laventille to earn a 1-1 draw at the end of regulation time with fellow Pro League club, Ma Pau which had taken a 13th minute lead thanks to a 13 minute header from Dwane James.

Daniel’s strike for Caledonia came as his team was applying some much needed pressure against Ma Pau which had been reduced to ten-men following the straight red card for defender Rashad Wint by referee Neil Brizan for a foul on Daniel. In the night’s two other quarterfinal matches, Pro League champions, bmobile Joe Public came up against their EFA clubmates at the Marvin Lee Stadium, while at Couva, United Petrotrin tackled Siparia Spurs.

Caledonia wins it late against Ma Pau on penalties.
By: Randi Bando (ttproleague).

Defending FA Trophy champions Caledonia AIA of Morvant/Laventille had to be rescued by an injury time item by substitute Kerry Daniel against Ma Pau SC before winning the match 6-5 on penalties to advance into the semifinals of this year’s competition.

Ma Pau were leading following a first half item by Dwane James and thought they had the 1-0 victory with four minutes added-on time up on the board.

However following a careless challenge by midfielder Reshad Wint in the ninetieth minute—two minutes after making his appearance—on Kerry Daniel, Ma Pau were reduced to ten men followed by the Caledonia equalizer.

Daniel was left with little challenge above the area after picking up a pass from the right and the Caledonia substitute rescued his team with a low shot which eluded a fully stretched Shane Mattis to tie the score 1-1 which eventually led the match into extra time.

Either side failed to register a winning item after 30 minutes of injury time forcing the match to be decided on penalties.

And after seven kicks from either side, defending champs Caledonia were in celebration when Jamaican goalie Kevin Graham made a save on Sayid Freitas for a 6-5 penalty kicks victory.

Advancing into the semifinal stage of the FA along with Caledonia are W Connection, United Petrotrin, and Bmobile Joe Public after easing past their opponents on Monday night.

At the Ato Boldon Stadium a hattrick by Hughton Hector and a goal each by Christian Viveros and Jose Carlos Diaz gave Connection a 5-1 win over Valtrin in the first match. And in the second match United Petrotrin registered a 3-1 over Siparia Spurs with Luis Andre Lima, Gary Glasgow and Kennedy Hinkson hitting the mark for the Oilmen.

Digicel Pro League champions Joe Public playing in the second clash at the Marvin Lee Stadium trashed the Joe Public Eastern Football Association team 6-0 led by Kerry Baptiste who registered a beavertrick. Defender Seon Powers and an own goal by Dinelvi Tinto had the other items.

The semifinal draw for the FA Trophy will be announced on Tuesday by the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation.

The most competitive of clashes in the quarterfinal stage was Caledonia against Ma Pau SC in the first match at the Macoya venue. Caledonia started strong however failed to find the back of the net.

Match Play

Marcus Ambrose crashed an effort onto the crossbar in the 10th minute after meeting Akim Armstrong’s cross from the right which was just too high for a towering Randolph Jerome as Caledonia squeezed Ma Pau on the defensive.

Six minutes later Kareem Joseph was just high and wide as his curling effort from above the area missed the far corner.

Dwane James had a rare go at goal for Ma Pau in the 24th minute however his effort spilled just wide of Graham’s far upright before Ma Pau were back on the defensive.

They were rescued by a brilliant save when goalkeeper Shane Mattis pushed out Kendall Velox’s shot from above the area for a corner. Mattis denied Velox seconds later from the angle before his defence somehow managed to clear the ball after Caledonia attack.

But against the run of play Ma Pau stunned Caledonia for a 1-0 advantage in the 39th minute after a brilliant set-piece which ended with Dwane James at far post heading in Meikel Williams cross.

Ma Pau was awarded the freekick some 22 yards out after Velox clipped Rennie Britto from behind, and from a very unfamiliar set play Williams was fed inside the area after making a smart run on the left and whipping over a cross which found James who headed past goalkeeper Graham for the advantage.

Ma Pau had a much better showing in the closing stages of the first half causing a couple stirs for Caledonia when Anthony Wolfe had to be brought down by Nuru Abdallah Muhammed in the 34th minute and three minutes from the break he headed over from a deep cross.

Ma Pau failed to double their advantage in the 58th minute after goalscorer Dwane James struck the far upright and the rebound was spilled wide by Rennie Britto.

One minute later Caledonia failed to level the scores when Velox was fed a great cross from the left but the veteran attacker directed his shot at goalkeeper Shane Mattis who gathered comfortably.

And when the match looked set for a 1-0 score in favour of Ma Pau in injury time the forecast changed when midfielder Reshad Wint picked up a direct red card by referee Neil Brizan for a challenge on Kerry Daniel two minutes after coming off the bench.

Daniel who also made a his appearance in the second period then pulled the scores level 1-1 in injury time with a low shot from distance which slipped just inside the upright to beat a fully stretched Mattis to send the match into extra time.

But after 30 minutes of extra time both sides failed to net the winner forcing the match to be decided on penalties.
