San Juan shuts out South Presentation.

A double strike from tall frontman Anthony Guppy yesterday at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium in Marabella, ensured San Juan Senior Comprehensive a place in the semifinal round of the RBTT National InterCol competition.
Guppy got goals on either side of half-time, capping off a comprehesive win for the East InterCol runner-up, as it blanked South InterCol winner, Presentation College (San Fernando), 4-0.
Captain Elijah Manners opened the scoring, followed by Keston Jackie with a “bullet.” Guppy got the third just before the interval, then his team’s fourth, which was the only goal of the second half.
San Juan will take on the winner of the Naparima versus Carapichaima match, which was the second fixture in yesterday’s double-header.
Up to press time, “Naps” had a 4-2 lead on a first half double from Shadon Winchester and a goal each from Cion Samuel and Jayson Joseph. Kareem Beckles and Trent Loughley were the marksmen for “Caps.”
In the second match of Wednesday’s double-header at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Big Five and East InterCol champion St Augustine overcame Mucurapo Senior Comprehensive in a penalty shootout for the second time this season.
In last month’s Big Five final, the teams finished 2-2 at the end of regulation and extra times. The “Green Machine” won the ensuing penalty shootout 3-2.
The teams were again deadlocked at the end of 110-plus minutes , with Ricardo Peltier doing the scoring for “Compre” and Daniel Joseph scoring for St Augustine’s in a 1-1 draw. St Augustine triumphed 4-2 in the shootout. Sr Augustine is scheduled to meet Fatima in the semifinal at 4 pm tomorrow at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.
Goalkeeping blunders send ‘Caps’ crashing out of Intercol.

Naparima College defeated Carapichaima Senior Comprehensive at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium by 4-2 in the RBTT National Intercol Quarterfinal on Thursday. Naparima will face San Juan Senior Comprehensive in the semifinal on Monday, after San Juan easily disposed of Presentation College to advance. Caripichaima deserved a lot more from this game, but their goalkeeper Terrance Parris had an evening he would love to forget and cost his team three goals gifting Naparima with the victory.
Naparima headed into the game as slight favorites, but it was actually Carapichaima that began the game more brightly, keeping Naparima pegged back in the early minutes of the first half. In the 8th minute, ‘Caps’ got their reward through their prolific finisher and easily recognizable on the night due to his new hairstyle, Kareem Beckles. Naparima captain, Sherrick Hilaire uncharacteristically allowed Beckles to steal the ball from him when he was the last man back, and Beckles broke forward with the ball and eventually toe-punched the ball into the back of the Naparima net, giving his team a surprise 1-0 lead. Naparima only had to wait three minutes for the equalizer which came when Carapichaima goalkeeper Parris failed to properly hang on to a ball, dropping it into the penalty area, allowing Shannon Winchester to run on to the ball and he made no mistake with his finish pulling Naparima level.
Both teams continued to search for the go ahead goal, but it was apparent that the bright start made by Carapichaima to the game was beginning to fizzle out, as Naparima began controlling the possession and creating the better opportunities. Carapichaima were again unfortunate in the 34th minute, which was almost a replay of the first goal, when Parris again made a costly mistake, fumbling a ball which he should have held onto, and Winchester was again first on the scene to pick up his second goal of the night and give the South Zone League Champions the lead. The teams headed to the locker rooms during the interval, with Naparima maintaining its slight advantage.
Within minutes after the break ‘Caps’ struck again through Trent Lougheed, who capitalized on a defensive blunder and outran the last stopper, and calmly side-footed the ball calmly past the advancing Curtis Julien. Believe it or not, Parris again cost his team dearly a few minutes later when he misjudged his position and allowed a relatively harmless shot from Cion Samuel to trickle into the net restoring Naparima’s advantage. Parris was then withdrawn from the action by the Carapichaima coach and reserve goalkeeper Makando Shipley was introduced in an attempt to spare Parris any further embarrassment and to tighten up their defense.
Shipley fared no better however when Jayson Joseph unleased a powerful, swerving right-footed shot that the goalkeeper should have put his body behind, but could only deflect into the net, giving Naparima a 4-2 lead.
Naparima eventually went on to claim the victory, booking their place in the National Intercol Semifinals against San Juan Senior Comprehensive at the Larry Gomes Stadium on Monday.

Yesterday's RBTT InterCol results:

San Juan Secondary Comprehensive 4 vs Presentation College 0.

Carapichaima Senior Comprehensive 2 (Kareem Beckles, Trent Laugheed) vs Naparima College 4 (Shahdon Winchester 2, Cion Samuel, Jayson Joseph).

The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.
