Striker Gary Glasgow netted a double as League leaders B Mobile Joe Public thrashed Neal and Massy Caledonia AIA 4-2 in the penultimate round of the Lucozade Sport Big Six competition, at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Malabar on Tuesday night.
The ‘Eastern Lions’ on 65 points placed one hand on the League trophy as they are now in the best position to cop the 2006 League title with just one more match to go.
The ‘Men from Macoya’ sit on top of the league standings three points clear of their closest challenger W Connection on 62 points who they will face in the final match on Saturday, and Joe Public enjoy a healthier goal average.
The Macoya based team coached by former national goal keeper Michael Mc Commie came prepared for a win against Caledonia in order to maintain their position at the top and got down to business early.
In the 5th minute Wolry Wolfe registered the first item of the match in a play, which started from the corner flag. Wolfe played a short corner to teammate Kendall Davis who returned the left sided pass and the Jamaican striker placed his effort well wide of goalkeeper Jhonny Ortiz Cardona from an acute angle as Public stamped their authority with an early 1-0 lead.
Soon afterwards Caledonia showed a lot of determination as they pushed for the equalizer causing problems for Joe Public.
In the 9th minute Devon Modeste did well to meet Jason Cudjoe’s 20-yard free kick with a diving header but his effort flew safely over goalkeeper Aleanjandro Figueroa’s goal.
Modeste got another shot off in the 11th minute, but his 18 yard effort flew well over the bar after defender Dexter Franklyn failed to clear the ball out of his area.
Caledonia continued to apply pressure, Cudjoe managed an 18 yard right footed shot only to see it deflected for a corner.
In the 31st minute Kareem Joseph netted Caledonia’s equalizer with his 22 yard free kick beating a stunned Figueroa with pace to tie the score at 1-1.
Two minutes later Joe Public failed to capitalize when striker Gary Glasgow left goalkeeper Cardona way out of his area, and with only defender Julio Ceasar De La Rosa in his way, he was under pressure and failed to even get a shot off.
Things then got worse for Caledonia AIA when goal scorer Kareem Joseph received two yellow cards from referee John Danouse in the 39th minute leaving his team down to ten men just before the half.
After the interval the Joe Public coach boosted his attack in search for the win when he introduced Arnold Dwarika and Sean Cooper at the expense of defenders Jorge Da Silva and Abbssi Mc Pherson in the 46th minute.
It then took the ‘Eastern Lions’ till the 57th minute to regain the lead when Gary Glasgow netted into an open goal after strike partner Wolfe squared a pass across the face of goal to put the scores at 2-1 in favor of the League leaders.
Joe Public did not have it easy against the 10-man Caledonia who continued to play strong in midfield with Hayden Tinto causing a lot of trouble on the right flank, but was unfortunate not to make the best of his runs.
Joe Public then maximized their lead as Glasgow registered his second of the night in the 65th minute beating the offside trap before slotting the ball past goalkeeper Cardona with his low shot to push the score to 3-1 in favor of the ‘Eastern Lions’.
And while Public’s substitute Arnold Dwarika was having some great touches both in midfield and attack Caledonia’s second half substitute Quincy Charles made a daring run through the middle of the park to blast a 22 yard left footed effort just over the crossbar in the 67th minute.
Hard work then paid off for the Morvant based team when substitute Anthony Thompson powerfully headed past goal keeper Figueroa from Hayden Tinto’s right sided cross in the 79th minute for a 3-2 score as they searched desperately for goals.
But Coach Mc Commie of Joe Public wasn’t done yet as he boosted his attack even more replacing Kendall Davis with his top goalscorer Roen Nelson in the 81st minute.
And in the 90th minute Nelson himself sealed things off when he scored Public’s 4th item, easily side footing the ball into the net after Glasgow weaved his way through the Caledonia defence before playing the ball back into the 6-yard as they held on for a 4-2 win.
Joe Public will face W Connection in their final match of the season on Saturday already feeling comfortable as the League winners, as the ‘Savonneta Boys’ who scored a 1-0 win over rivals Jabloteh will have to win by a big margin if they are to overtake Joe Public.

I think Theobald was suspended for this game and Whitley for Jabloteh's game as well....
