Joe Public off to shining start in Guyana.
By: Randy Bando (ttproleague).

A pair of first half goals by striker Devon Mitchell eased Pro League Club, B Mobile Joe Public past Guyanese club Blue Berry Hill 4-0 in their first match of the Kashif & Shanghai tournament on Friday at the Guyana Football Club Ground, Guyana.
Devon Mitchell who recently made the move the Macoya based team just a few months ago broke the deadlock in the 27th minute after Blue Berry Hill’s goalkeeper had denied him at least four times earlier.
Striker Mitchell slotted the ball past Blue Berry Hill’s goalkeeper from 18yards out after receiving a neat pass from Lyndon ‘Chubby’ Andrews for the 1-0 lead at the packed Guyana Football Club Ground.
Joe Public then doubled their lead in the 35th minute as the Blue Berry Hill team seemed to have losed the steam they started off with. Wolry Wolfe tapped the ball past the goalkeeper after a couple of touches into the area from a corner for the 2-0 advantage.
And three minutes from the half striker Mitchell registered his second when he slammed the ball into the net from close range from a rebound shot by Lyndon Diaz to take to the half at 3-0.
The second period went into slow motion as both teams struggled on a less than favored heavy ground due to the weather conditions to double Blue Berry Hill’s worries.
Joe Public added the final nail on the coffin in the 66th minute when Kendell Davis netted his team’s fourth goal on the night. Davis lashed on to a Michael Celestine through pass 25 yards from goal to dribble his way into Blue Berry’s penalty area before lashing a shot into the back of the net putting the score at 4-0.
Joe Public finished the match with the highest score margin so far in the tournament basically made up of Guyanese teams.

Goal Scorers—Devon Mitchell 27th, 42nd, Wolry Wolfe 35th, Kendell Davis 66th.

After the match coach of the winning TT Pro League club Michael Mc Comie told ‘ttproleague.com’ that he was pleased with the score due to the ground conditions saying, “The conditions were heavy which I think was the cause of us not having a bigger score, but I am pleased with the results. Blue Berry Hill wasn’t a bad team but they struggled due to the conditions and broke down basically after the first 25 minutes showing that they are below our fitness level.”
“These Guyanese teams want to prove something against us and Blue Berry proved it by really hyping-up to play us. The match was pushed back an hour for some of the water to run off the ground but during this time they were out warming-up to face us.”
“But for us players like Sean Cooper, Lyndon Andrews and Devon Mitchell have all had great performances for us and this is why we had the type of finish we had. Guyanese national Abbssi Mc Pherson who plays for us in defence had an excellent match playing at home and was a crowd favorite. I must also give credit to Blue Berry Hill’s goalkeeper for doing a good enough job and denying us a 9-0 score,” said Mc Comie.
The TT Pro League Club will now meet PELE in their quarterfinal match at the Blairmont Ground, Guyana and Mc Comie promises to entertain, “We are here to entertain the crowd in the best way we can. I would believe Blairmont Ground is better than the Guyana Football Club Ground under the unpredictable weather conditions and we can be able to have a much better game.”
“I have seen PELE play a bit against Victoria Kings and they are a good team with one or two players to watch out for. So I would definitely expect a tougher match in the quaterfinals,” ended the Joe Public coach.

Second half substitute Kendall Davis registered a pair of goals as TT Pro League outfit B Mobile Joe Public enjoyed a 3-0 Christmas Day victory against PELE FC of Guyana in their quarterfinal match of the Kashif and Shanghai Tournament.
The 2006 Pro League Champions had a hard time during the first half hour as PELE FC used the support of the packed Blairmont Ground to their advantage and applied early pressure on a surface, which was much better than the previous ground Joe Public, played on.
However Joe Public got closest to the opening goal when Lyndon Diaz hammered a onetime 30-yard shot, but the PELE goal keeper matched it well with an excellent save to keep a clean sheet on the 10 minute mark.
On the 31st minute striker Devon Mitchell positioned the Macoya based club well, when he opened the scoring. Mitchell who scored a double in Public’s opening match against Blue Berry Hill flashed in a 20 yard left footed shot that beat a diving PELE goalkeeper for the 1-0 lead.
The Michael Mc Comie coached team then relaxed for the remaining 14 minutes with their 1-0 advantage, which they took to the dressings rooms.
But early into the second period coach Mc Comie was forced to retire his goal scorer Mitchell as a precaution after the player suffered a knock to his ankle. His replacement in the 55th minute was defender Seon Power who joined the team on Saturday after Digicel Cup training with the Trinidad and Tobago national team.
With the loss of his goal scorer, Mc Comie introduced Kendall Davis in the 60th minute for Wolry Wolfe and the change proved to be a masterstroke.
Only five minutes on the field and Davis got on the score sheet for the ‘Eastern Lions’. The former W Connection striker received a pass into the area from skipper Dale Saunders before slotting it past PELE’s goalkeeper to up their score at 2-0.
It wasn’t all Joe Public as PELE FC forced a few saves out of goalkeeper Figueroa at the other end who came up with some great saves.
Joe Public were however always in control, as they had some great performances from Dale Saunders, Carey Harris and Guyanese defender Abassi Mc Pherson.
Ten minutes from time Kendall Davis completed his double blasting the ball well wide of the PELE goalkeeper from 18 yards out as Joe Public enjoyed a 3-0 win, registering their second victory in the tournament.
Things are all in the Pro League team’s favor, as they are now the top scoring team in the competition so far with seven goals and their two strikers – Kendall Davis and Devon Mitchell topping the scoring list with three goals each.
Joe Public semifinal clash promises to be a good one as Alpha United will feature two Pro League players, Howard Lowe and Oneke Ford both of North East Stars who are both back home in Guyana for the Christmas break.
Coach Michael Mc Comie spoke briefly with ‘ttproleague.com’ after his team’s second consecutive victory and said, “It was a good match and PELE played tough. They played even better than when we saw them play against Mabouya Valley. They threatened us on a few occasions and this is good for our game.”
“I have to say we had some great performances by Kendall Davis, Devon Mitchell, Dale Saunders, Carey Harris, Abassi Mc Pherson and goal keeper Figueroa who kept a clean sheet, ended Mc Comie.

Starworld trio called before disciplinary committee.
By: Randy Bando (ttproleague).

Three players from San Fernando Starworld Strikers have to answer to a disciplinary committee on Wednesday at the TT Pro League’s office at 5:30pm.
The trio was issued red cards by referee John Danouse in Sunday’s match between North East Stars and Starworld Strikers at the Sangre Grande Recreation Ground.
The first to see red was Dexter Franklyn in the 39th minute when he pushed North East Stars Jamaican striker Oneke Ford in the face after the whistle was blown for a foul on him. Franklyn had won the initial free kick for his hair being pulled by Ford.
In the second half, Starworld fell short of two more players, when Marvin Phillip was given his marching orders for verbally abusing referee Danouse in the 57th minute for what he thought was an offside goal by North East.
Starworld’s captain Marc Borde was the third man to go after receiving two cards in a row-seeing his yellow turned red. The original yellow card was for a foul he committed in midfield and he saw red when he verbally abused the referee.
Referee Danouse didn’t hesitate on giving him his marching orders—the Starworld captain took it to the extreme as it seemed he swung his hand at referee Danouse before walking off the field.
Borde, together with Franklyn and Phillip will know their faith on Wednesday The disciplinary committee would be lead by Chairman of the committee Wayne Caesar, following which a ruling would be made.

Central shock Arnett
By Paul-Andre Walker, Staff Reporter

Oneke Ford
and Sean Givans were crowned heroes yesterday when they combined to give Sporting Central a 2-0 victory over Arnett Gardens in the first-leg of the Jamaica National Building Society Confederation Cup Knockout.

Thirteen minutes into the game, the Clarendon team, with its oldest player being just 22, found itself in the lead through Ford. Arnett must have thought they would get back into the game against the youngsters but in the 56th minute Givans showed them otherwise.

All-Star challenge for Reggae Boyz

THE CLARENDON Football Association (CFA) has come together with the Jamaica Football Federation (JFA) to organise the Reggae Boyz' final friendly before they leave for England to take part in two international friendlies ahead of the 2006 World Cup.

The CFA, with the sponsorship of Juici Beef, Blue Water and Building Innovations, have put together a Clarendon All-Stars team that will test Jamaica's local-based national team and help their coach Wendell Downswell to make his final decisions regarding his 22-man squad for the sojourn of England.

The game, for which national head coach Wendell Downswell has named a 20-man squad, will be played this Sunday at the Jamalco Sports Complex beginning at four o'clock.

For Jamaica, Shawn Sawyers (vice-captain), Maurice Evans, Christopher Jackson, Khouri Pickersgill, Orane Simpson, Fabian Davis (captain), Demar Stewart, Adrian Reid, O'neil Thompson, Vincent Earle, Demar Phillips, Rafe Wolfe, Lovel Palmer, Rohan Reid, Kevin Lamey, Carnel Learmond, Horace Howell, Wilfred Smith, Damion Williams and Tyrone Sawyers.

SERIOUS GAME

Speaking to the invitees, Downswell underlined the importance of the event and made sure to point out that they, as national players, needed to take the game seriously and perform well.

"As a national unit it is important to display the best possible performance," said Downswell, pointing to the upcoming Digicel Cup for which he says the team is already in preparation.

"It is equally important to show the best talent from Clarendon so that young players can become a part of the pool of talent of about 40 players that the senior team presently rotates," explained Downswell to the CFA.

For the All-Stars, a squad of 34 players have been called for one training session to be coached by Merrick Morrison and Vassell Reynolds, after which the team will be reduced to 20.

The squad reads: Damion Crooks, Norris Henry, Warren Clarke, Damion Barrett, Omar Parker, Omar Dallas, Sean Coleman, Dwayne Ford, Seon Giveans, Romaine Halstead, Kemar Mills, Dwayne Thomas, Owen Gordon, Oneke Ford, Jevaughn Watson, Ricardo Cousins, Odean Wright, Omar Walters, Karl Wiggan, Leon Callagam, Omar Francis, Terry Alves, Keane Bennett, Welton Lewis, James Thomas, Shauntel Mundle, Christopher Powell, Adrian Wilson, Lemar Reid, Rohan Smith, Sheldon Stone and Michael Jackson.
