According to this report, an element of the technical staff is missing. However, the article bears no comment from the TTFA hierarchy on the matter or no indication that the TTFA was contacted for comment.

T&T Men’s Futsal Team lose to Costa Rica in opening training match

Trinidad and Tobago Men’s Futsal Team lose to Costa Rica in opening training match
TTF Media

Trinidad and Tobago’s National Futsal men’s team received a stern lesson from the reigning champions of CONCACAF in Heredia on Wednesday night.

T&T, coached by former National Team and “Strike Squad” captain Clayton Morris, suffered a 6-0 defeat to the hosts at the Palacio de Los Deportes Indoor Arena as both teams continued their build up for upcoming CONCACAF qualifiers.

The five starters for T&T were goalkeeper Kevin Graham, captain Jerwyn Balthazar, Kerry Joseph, Noel Williams and Cyrano Glen, who is the brother of T&T international Cornell Glen.

The Costa Ricans controlled the pace of the match and were clinical for most parts against a T&T team which arrived in San Jose on Wednesday morning after their original flight out of Port of Spain on Tuesday had been cancelled.

The hosts went ahead in the first half through Alejandro Paniagua and Diego Zuniga doubled the lead before the break. They added further items in the second half through Edwin Cubillo, Isaias Mora, Carlos Chavez and Yariel Sandi.

T&T did manage to create a few goalscoring opportunities but failed to capitalize particularly in the second half. Kerry Joseph had right footer into the left side netting after beating his man inside the opening minute of the match. And Noel Williams had his crack rebound off the post after being played through by Jerwyn Balthazar in the second half.

Morris who guided the team to third place in the Caribbean championship in January, said the timing of the defeat was ideal for his players.

“We have six players who have not played at this level before and what a way to get a baptism of fire,” Morris told TTFA Media.

“As coaches we have been telling them what is expected at this level and tonight’s game was a testimony and something I think the players will remember for the rest of their lives. I think they are understanding more of what is required for us to get past Honduras.

“We have not been playing on this size of the field which is the regulated size but we do not have that available to us at home. Defensively we were quite solid in the first ten to fifteen minutes but they were able to get ahead of us.

“We have another opportunity to play them on Friday night and we will be aiming to be a lot sharper and more composed on the ball,” Morris added.

Team captain Balthazar who is also a member of the Defence Force professional league team, said he expected nothing less of Costa Rica. The Costa Rican team was coming off a four-game training camp in Argentina last month during which they lost their one-off international 4-2 to the Argentina National Futsal team. Costa Rica has qualified for three FIFA Futsal World Cups.

“Coming into the game we knew that it would be difficult for us against the CONCACAF champions but we needed this kind of challenge. This was a lesson for us and hopefully we can have a better showing on Friday. The most important thing for us is the preparation for the games against Honduras and I believe this game would have served us well inspite of the 6-0 loss,” said Balthazar who also made his senior international debut against Grenada a few weeks ago

The T&T team is staying at the Costa Rica Football Federation’s headquarters and live-in training centre which is equipped with state of the art facilities used by all its National Teams. Both teams will face off again on Friday as T&T prepares to face Honduras in a qualifying leg on May 4th and 5th while Costa Rica is gearing up to defend its title with a spot at the 2016 FIFA Futsal World Cup in Colombia at stake.

The highlights show the team often out of position defensively and offensively. In Futsal, you can not allow the other team such free access up the middle, the middle must always be squeezed. I was pleased to watch the Coach video because he recognized and did not hold back, he hit on it right away. Let's see how they adjust for next match. The team has potential but they cant play football on a Futsal court they have to change the movement and positioning

Good luck Fellas

Neptune proud to represent T&T in Futsal.
By Shaun Fuentes (Guardian).

He is one of the four members of the National Futsal team that plays professional 11v11 football but he is beaming with pride on the opportunity to represent the country in an international tournament.

Jameel Neptune of Morvant Caledonia United is currently with the national Futsal team in Costa Rica preparing for the upcoming CONCACAF qualifying playoffs with Honduras. A win on aggregate will send T&T through to the final round of qualification next month in San Jose
Neptune got the chance to face up against CONCACAF defending Futsal champions Costa Rica in Heredia on Wednesday night as T&T lost 6-0. But Neptune was impressed with the quality of the football.

“It was a great learning experience, to see how they control the ball and how the move it,” he said.

“I think Futsal provides a great opportunity for players of all types. I play professionally for Caledonia but Futsal allows me to develop my skill level and also the pace at which the game is played in a small sided setting which we can also use on the big field. I’m very excited about being able to play this version, “ added Neptune who was part of the Caledonia side that captured the Lucozade Shield title last week in their win over DirecTV W Connection in the final at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.

Looking ahead to the matches with Honduras on May 4 and 5, Neptune said T&T would be ready to pose a challenge.

“We know it will be two tough matches but we are working hard to correct our flaws and to improve our game. We play Costa Rica again on Friday (today) and we’ll be looking to better our performance from the 6-0 loss. I think we’ll be ready for Honduras and then also be ready to give it our best in the Final tournament.”

The 2016 FIFA Futsal World Cup will be played in Colombia in September and four countries from CONCACAF will enter the Finals.

The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.

CR played with intensity moved the ball quickly whereas it looked like we were lacking that playing typical Trini casual style.

CR played with intensity moved the ball quickly whereas it looked like we were lacking that playing typical Trini casual style.

And they punished us mercilessly. Transition was plodding and without protecting the ball. Finishing clinically could have made it a more contested affair before CR began the feeding frenzy.

One of CR's left footers was an exercise in high application and concentration. He is a good ambassador for futsal.

Well, Honduras is not CR so, we shall see.

Despite our deficiencies, we have strengths. The match that matters is versus Honduras.

Goalie did well on several occasions. Much of what occurred was already written in the stars by the time he tried to prevent the goals. Having a GK coach there would certainly have helped in debriefing him post-match. Also psychologically.

I just find their defending is poor especially when it comes to positioning and awareness.

These fellas not playing Futsal, they look completely lost. This is totally different from football, fundamentally we do not understand the positioning, movement nor tactics. Futsal is not small goal either, it really requires thought and understanding of the movement which we are not showing.

You can not give up the middle nor allow the pivot man to receive the ball, on too many occasions we legs wide open.

Futsal Men go down 6-1 to Costa Rica in second friendly

Futsal Men go down 6-1 to Costa Rica in second friendly
TTFA Media

Trinidad and Tobago’s National Futsal team suffered their second defeat to Costa Rica when both teams met in a friendly at the Liceo de Curridabat on Friday night. Following the 6-0 defeat on Wednesday, T&T got on the scoresheet this time through Ishmael Daniel but were outscored 6-1 by the reigning CONCACAF champions.

Isais Mora put the hosts ahead in the 7th minute and they stamped their authority on the match with further goals from Jariel Sandi and an own goal to take a 3-0 lead before half time.

T&T were better on the offensive this time around but could not manage too many clear cut chances on goal. Offensively the Costa Ricans proved yet again to be strong and clinical in their ball movement and finishing.

The Costa Ricans would get further items from Jorge Jiminez, Johan Bolton and Steven Solis to take a 6-0 lead before Daniel found the net for T&T five minutes from the end of play.

His goal came when T&T broke from their own half with Jerwyn Balthazar winning possession and forcing a ball wide on the left to the onrushing Noel Williams who played the ball over on the right for Daniel so slot home from close range.

Earlier Jameel Neptune also had a decent try on goal from close up but could not beat the Costa Rican goalkeeper. Balthazar also failed to control a good ball from the right while inside the penalty area before the Costa Rican custodian got hold of the ball. Kerry Joseph also had a low powerful effort blocked by the goalkeeper after receiving a pass on the left from Balthazar.

T&T will aim to shake off the two losses as they now look ahead to the two qualifying matches against Honduras at the BN Arena in San Jose on May 4th and 5th. The winner on aggregate will advance to the CONCACAF Final stage in San Jose from which four teams will qualify for the 2016 FIFA Futsal World Cup in Colombia.

Head coach Clayton Morris said he saw some improvement from the opening 6-0 loss.

“Generally it was a very encouraging performance in the second game. After the first game on Wednesday we had a post-mortem and went through some of the things we did not do. Where was the composure on the ball, the shape, the confidence and the patience? These are the things we were doing at home and it was missing in the first game. But we saw it coming back last night and this is why I can say there was some form of improvement,” Morris told TTFA Media.

“We played a lot of games at home but against opposition that is no way in comparison with what we are facing in Costa Rica. This is really a yardstick to measure ourselves in terms of where we are and what it will take to get us past Honduras,” he added.

“I’m proud to say that we can see the players taking the initiative to make improvements. The players know what is at stake and they are prepared to go the distance. From as early as 6am on Thursday following the game the night before, the captain knocked my door and asked for balls as the players were going out to work on some things that they felt needed to be addressed. That is always good for a coach to see when his players are that eager to make improvements on their game,” Morris added.

Trinidad and Tobago Men Futsal Team stay focused on CONCACAF playoff with Honduras
TTFA Media

Trinidad and Tobago’s National Futsal Men will be aiming to shake off their two recent losses to CONCACAF champions Costa Rica as they seek a place in the final round of qualification for the 2016 FIFA Futsal World Cup which takes place in Colombia later this year.

The T&T team closed a six-day training camp at the Costa Rican Football Federation Goal Project Training Centre on Monday during which time they played two friendlies against Costa Rica, losing 6-0 and 6-1 respectively. Despite the two losses, the spirit in the camp is upbeat with all energies being focused on their two-game series with Honduras at the BN Arena in San Jose on Wednesday and Thursday. Canada and the United States will also face off for the other spot at stake.

“The mood in the camp remains upbeat. We knew that coming here to play Costa Rica was going to be a big challenge for us but I think we came out of it with a lot of positives. The guys know what to expect now and they are just looking forward to these two upcoming matches now,” head coach Clayton Morris said.

T&T player Kareem Perry who is also a member of the T&T Beach Soccer team, said the last few days have been crucial to the team’s preparations.

“Once we apply all that coach has thought us then we can go far. The two games were hard here as it was quite easy for us playing against teams back in Trinidad but then the level of Costa Rica was much higher. The learning experience here was overwhelming. This is something we had never experience before and we needed this,” Perry told TTFA Media.

“The experience at the Costa Rican training centre has been ideal. The facilities were all available for us in one location and this served us well over the past few days.”

Looking ahead to Honduras, he added “I think we will do well once we remain focused on the task. We can now play with more intensity and passion. We have the talent to play similarly to Costa Rica but we need to adapt quickly and maintain a high level of intensity. We are going to take these lessons into our two games against Honduras.

The T&T team left the Costa Rican headquarters on Monday and took up base at the Wyndham Hotel in San Jose where it will be based for the upcoming playoffs.

At the CONCACAF championship, the winner and second-place team from each group will qualify to the semifinals of the Championship, and the FIFA Futsal World Cup Colombia 2016.

The winners of the semifinals will advance to the final and the two losing semifinalists will compete in the third-place match. In addition to crowning the Confederation’s champion in this discipline, the CONCACAF Futsal Championship will qualify four teams to the FIFA Futsal World Cup.

Once T&T qualifies for the final round, they will open their campaign against Mexico on May 8th before facing Panama on May 9th and Guatemala a day later. The other group includes Cuba, Curacao, Costa Rica and the winner between the USA/Canada two-game playoff.

Twenty-four nations will gather in Colombia for the FIFA Futsal World Cup in September. The African contingent will feature a veteran Egyptian side but also a new champion in Morocco and debutants in Mozambique, who needed a dramatic penalty shoot-out to overcome a gallant Zambian effort in the play-off for third at the 2016 CAF Africa Futsal Cup of Nations last week.

The European contingent has some big names including Spain which pushed all the way in their UEFA play-off tie against Slovenia, Spain eventually came through to earn one of the seven European berths on offer at the FIFA Futsal World Cup Colombia 2016.

Qualifying alongside the Spanish at the end of second legs last month were Azerbaijan, who will be making their first appearance at the world finals, Portugal, Russia, Ukraine, and Kazakhstan. The seventh and final slot went to Italy, who saw off Hungary in their qualifying match.

Futsal Men win final warmup…enters CONCACAF Qualifier with Honduras

Futsal Men win final warmup…enters CONCACAF Qualifier with Honduras
TTFA Media

Trinidad and Tobago’s National Futsal Team will face off with Honduras in their opening leg of a two-game series at the BN Arena in San Jose from 5:30pm (7:30pm TT Time) on Wednesday in their CONCACAF Final round qualifying play off.

T&T, under head coach Clayton Morris, have been in Costa Rica for a week preparing for their qualifiers and the team completed its first victory since here when they trounced local Costa Rican Futsal League club Joma Futsal 6-3 in its final training match in San Jose on Monday night.

T&T got a hattrick from captain Jerwyn Balthazar, two goals from Point Fortin Civic Centre player Bevon Bass and one from Noel Williams to outscore the local team.

T&T went ahead on two occasions in the first half but Joma were head and head with them, pulling a goal back each time T&T took the lead. They got their goals from Luis Barnes and Daniel Carerra and also got a third item from Christopher Diaz in the second half.

But T&T took firm control of proceeding after the break through Bass and Balthazar before Williams netted the sixth item near the end of the match. Generally it was a more encouraging display from T&T which had been beaten 6-1 and 6-0 respectively by Costa Rica last week.

Honduras meantime, faced Costa Rica in a closed-door match on Monday and lost 4-2 to the reigning CONCACAF champions. In its Central American qualifiers, the Hondurans defeated El Salvador and Nicaragua 5-2 and 6-2 respectively but lost 6-4 to Panama and 6-2 to Guatemala.

Looking ahead to the encounter, Morris said the latest victory was a definite moral booster for this team which got to this stage after finishing third in the Caribbean Championship in Cuba in January.

“This victory is definitely a confidence booster. I am so happy we got to play this third game. They were not as good as the Costa Rica national team but they definitely give us a good match. I was happy to see us scoring six goals before we conceded six in each of our games against Costa Rica. But this time we were able to get the goals and we were also able to correct some of our mistakes,” Morris told TTFA Media.

“We have worked hard for the past three months coming into this playoff. The stage is now set for our guys to go out and put it into practice. Our next objective is to get past Honduras and into the Final round and then achieve our ambition of qualifying for the World Cup in Colombia,” he added.

In the latest Futsal world rankings released this month, T&T stand in 59th position while Honduras are not ranked in the top 100. Guatemala is the top ranked CONCACAF team in 24thth spot with Costa Rica 26th, Cuba 29th, United States 41st and Mexico 49th.

T&T are ahead of England (60th) and Sweden (61st). Brazil, Spain and Russia are the top three ranked Futsal Teams in the world in that order.

Futsal is a five-a-side indoor game, played in 20-minute halves on a surface no larger than 25 by 42 metres (and no smaller than 20 by 38) for international matches. Goals measure three by two metres. Unlike 11-a-side football, goals may not be scored directly from the kick-off and are no offsides and there is unlimited substitution. The clock is stopped every time the ball goes out of play and each team team is entitled to a one-minute time out in each half.

The winner on aggregate in the two games between T&T and Honduras will advance. There is no home or away goal ruling. United States and Canada are also facing off in a qualifying leg in San Jose this week.

Scotland win first home futsal internationals
SFA

Scotland celebrated victory in their first ever home futsal international.

Mark Potter's side recovered from 3-0 down at half-time to defeat Gibraltar 4-3 at the Bells Sports Centre in Perth on a historic night for Scottish futsal.

Sean Muhsin scored twice to kick-start Scotland's second half fightback, and it was Scott Mollison who levelled the score at 3-3.

Gibraltar had a player sent off and a penalty saved, before Craig McLeish grabbed the winner with a minute left on the clock.

The two teams faced each other the following evening, with Scotland winning 4-2 to make it two wins out of two.

Another step forward for futsal in Scotland
SFA

Scotland’s first home international futsal fixtures this week symbolises another step forward in the development of the sport in this country.

The matches against Gibraltar on Wednesday and Thursday at the Bells Sports Centre in Perth are the latest landmarks for futsal - a skills-focused variant on traditional five-as-side football - in Scotland.

Futsal has benefitted from number of initiatives that has strengthened the sport at all levels: the organisation of the first-ever Scottish Futsal Cup, the continuing development of coach education courses, and the commitment to entering the Scotland National Futsal Team into the 2017 European Championships highlight the work being done at all levels of the game.

The Scottish Futsal League [SFL] is now well-established as the partner of the Scottish Amateur FA to develop and manage the national adult league structure for Futsal. There are currently 6 regional leagues - Aberdeen, Dundee, Perth, Stirling, Edinburgh and Glasgow - with around 60 registered teams. The winning team from each regional competition qualifies for the SFL National Finals, held in May. Five city clubs - Aberdeen, FC Polonia Dundee, FC Santos Perth, Stirling University and Wattcell Edinburgh - participated in the 2015 finals.

The winning team from the National Finals, which were held over two days, then enters the UEFA Futsal Cup as Scotland’s club representatives.

Each of the leagues has its own cup competitions, in addition to the normal league programme, but the Scottish Futsal Cup signifies another step forward into the mainstream sporting community.

With initial rounds played in sections, North and South, teams from across the country have the opportunity to play against opponents they would not normally meet, as well as the challenges of travel, home advantage, player availability and all that goes with the romance of the cup.

The Scottish FA continues to present regional “Introduction to Futsal” coach education courses and is currently working on a more advanced “Level 2” course for coaches As the game grows, and the number of teams and players increases, so the opportunities for further competition develops and in order to improve those involved a clear development structure is required.

The Scottish FA has embarked on a wide range of coach education opportunities, culminating in June with representation at the UEFA Futsal “B” Licence coach educators course in Belfast. The long term aim would be to present a UEFA B Licence in Scotland.

In January 2015, Scotland entered the first-ever national team into the European Championships.

This was again a landmark occasion, demonstrating a clear commitment from the governing body for the sport in Scotland that they were ready to join the wider Futsal Family.

The team was developed over a short period of time, but allowed those involved the opportunity to experience everything that goes into preparing and participating at this level. While the results can improve, the team grew in confidence throughout the tournament.

The player identification programme, player development coaching and match preparations are now under way with players from amateur, semi-professional and senior clubs.

The cohesion of the three programmes highlighted above is key to the long-term stability of the Futsal in Scotland.

The biggest challenge remains developing a place for Futsal in the sporting consciousness of the nation, but with grassroots development and routes for the very best Scottish players to play at the highest level, there are clear indications that Scotland is recognising Futsal for all its positive impact on players, young and old.

T&T and Honduras battle to 1-1 draw…
By Shaun Fuentes (TTFA).

All to play for in second Futsal qualifier

Trinidad and Tobago’s National Men’s Futsal Team will have it all to play for in Thursday’s second leg CONCACAF playoff qualifier after keeping themselves in the race for a Final round place with a well played 1-1 draw with Honduras at the BN Arena in San Jose, Costa Rica on Wednesday.

T&T got an equalizing goal from Kerry Joseph in the 24th minute and could have stolen a last gasp winner after Kareem Perry’s close range effort was blocked Honduran goalkeeper Norman Vega and Jerwyn Balthazar’s follow up attempt was also deflected to safety in the closing stages of the match.

Both teams will battle each other from 7:30pm TT Time on Thursday with the winner advancing to the CONCACAF Finals towards the 2016 FIFA Futsal World Cup in Colombia. If the scores are locked after the regulation 40 minutes, then there will extra time comprising of two 5-minute halves. If there is still no winner, there will be penalty kicks starting with three kicks per team.

In Wednesday’s contest, Honduras took the lead against the run of play in the seventh minute, with Juan Hernandez and Oscar Lopez exchanging passes on a quick surge forward and Lopez collected a return ball before slotting home from close range with T&T outnumbered at the back. Their goal came after T&T had the better of the early opportunities, their closest being an effort by Joseph which crashed off the right far post. Ishmael Daniel also fired over bar with only the ‘keeper to beat while Balthazar should have also done better with two efforts from good positions with the goal in clear sight but his shots lacked venom.

T&T goalkeeper Kevin Graham pulled off several good saves on either side of the half as Honduras put T&T under pressure at different points of the match with their number 10 Hernandez being their most lively player on the evening.

T&T leveled the scores in the fourth minute of the second half when Jameel Neptune of Morvant Caledonia United, fought off a couple strong challenges and played line to Joseph who slotted home on the near post from a tight angle on the left of the goal.

Honduras enjoyed a good period midway through the second half but then T&T came back into it and began to take charge in the closing eight minutes or so.

Kareem Perry had a powerful right footed shot from about three metres out which whizzed past the upright and with the clock winding down his effort was kept out by the legs of Honduran captain Carlos Montes after Perry had eluded a defender and the advancing goalkeeper. The ball rebounded into the path of Balthazar but his powerful drive was also stopped by a Honduran inches off the goal line with the goalkeeper in no man’s land.

In the other qualifying match played in San Jose yesterday, the United States and Canada played to a dramatic 4-4 draw. Canada came from three goals down to take a 4-3 lead before the US snatched an equalizer on the final play of the game.

T&T Starting 5 – 1.Kevin Graham (GK), 3.Cyrano Glen, 8.Jerwyn Balthazar,9. Kerry Joseph and 5. Noel Williams

Subs: 2. Adrian Pirthysingh (GK), 4. Bevon Bass, 6. Ishmael Daniel, 7. Jameel Neptune, 10. Colin Joseph, Kevaughn Connell, 12. Kareem Perry, 13. Jamel Lewis, 14.Keston Guy (GK)

Head Coach: Clayton Morris.

Referee: Roberto Sanchez (Cuba)

Looked like a fairly open game with lots of chances for both teams, happy for the draw but we had chances to bury them. On to the next one!
