Police storm back to shut down 'Oil Men'
By: James Saunders (ttproleague.com).

Two goals one minute apart before halftime was enough for Police FC to pull the second major upset of the TT Pro League’s new season when they overcame United Petrotrin 3-1 at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium to register their first win in the TT Pro League.
After Petrotrin’s Jerol Forbes put his side ahead in the 29th minute many fans may have thought that the newcomers, Police were on there way to a heavy defeat similar to the one they received
at the hands of Superstar Rangers on the weekend.
However the Policemen responded in sensational fashion after going a goal down with Christopher Sam scoring the equalizer before Sean Mc Clashie and Kenwin Mathew scored back to back goals minutes before halftime to seal the victory for the Law Men.
Playing against a youthful Petrotrin outfit the league’s latest recruits showed little nerves as they created the first chance of the game when Mathew stroked his powerful header centimeters wide of Perry Martins’ left post after he made himself present to meet a dangerous low freekick from the right.
However the more experienced ‘Oil Men’ took the game to Police and Sylvester Teesdale should have had his teams first goal minutes later when he found himself alone with the goalkeeper after the Lawmen failed to clear a low left-sided Petrotrin cross.
The player however mis-trapped badly and the ball was thankfully cleared to safety by the opposition.
National player Abiola Clarence continued his side’s negligence in front of goal in the 13th minute when he found himself in a similar position after a deflected shot fell in his favor however the striker clumsily tripped over the ball before colliding with the advancing keeper who lay helpless on the ground.
Petrotrin continued there assault on the newcomers as the game progressed however due to a mixture of alert goalkeeping by custodian Anthony Marshall and poor finishing they failed to get on the score sheet.
There luck would change in the 29th minute when former Naparima College standout Jerol Forbes was given a nice through-ball on goal after the Police defence was caught napping.
Denied by Marshall on his first attempt the striker recovered well to tap home the rebound and put his side 1-0 in the lead.
Barely did the Petrotrin celebration dwindle when Christopher Sam answered back in heroic style for his team when he met a penetrative Curt Danclair cross from the right before controlling and smashing the ball past Martin at his near post to level the contest in the 32nd minute.
With the game locked in a tense back and fought tussle between the two clubs the Lawmen managed to break loose when poor communication at the back by Petrotrin saw an alert Sean Mc Clashie slide into steer a deep right-sided cross past Martin to put his side 2-1 up in the 40th minute.
Brian Williams’ men hadn’t even recovered from the Lawmen’s second assault when they were dealt what turned out to be a fatal aftershock by Police when Kenwin Mathew clinically blasted home a poorly cleared shot from on top of the area to leave the ‘Oil Men’ reeling at 3-1 in the 41st.
Energized by their feat Police almost increased their advantage at the stroke of halftime but Kieon Wilson’s shot was held safely by Martin to keep score manageable.
After the break Petrotrin fought hard to fight back into game and Jerol Forbes was unlucky not to get more toes unto a ball driven across the goal line by Teesdale who did well to dribble into the box from the right.
Petrotrin pressing all out to get goals meant that at times they were left thin at the back and on one such occasion substitute Neri Joseph was left looking for answers when he was outstandingly denied by Martin’s right palm after he was left all alone with the keeper in the six yard box after a Danclair pass in the 54th.
With the clock ticking down to their doom the ‘Oilmen threw everything at the Police defence which nervously soaked up all that came at them.
Teesdale thought that he may have brought his side back into the match in the 80th when he got the ball into the back of the net however referee Julien Drayton ruled that the player was in an offside position much to his dismay.
Police could have had the last say in the match when three minutes before time from a counter attack substitute Joseph made a meandering run from the halfway line straight into the Petrotrin area where he unselfishly chipped the ball across to teammate Sam whose looping header crashed off the upright and back into play.
Petrotrin would find no answer in the remaining minutes of the match as Police would end an eventful evening 3-1 winners making a strong point in proving that they were no walkover’s and probably erasing the recent memories of their debut trashing at the hands of Rangers.

Jabloteh steal point from Savonetta Boys at death.
By: James Saunders (ttproleague.com).

Ten-man CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh earned a share of the points in the final minute of its match against Vibe Ct 105 W Connection in the keynote match of the TT Pro League’s second match day.
Trent Noel was credited with the 94th minute strike, which bore resemblance to Connection’s strike an ironic twist to the fixture.
To their credit, it was Jabloteh that begun brighter with young bloods Elijah Manners. Elton John, Jason Marcano and the experienced Aurtis Whitley combining well in midfield and up front in search of an opening item.
In the 22nd minute Christian Viveros collided with a Jabloth defender and was knocked out cold. He was replaced by Clyde Leon.
The Colombian born player had to be stretchered off and taken to St Clair Medical Centre for immediate attention.
The player was diagnosed with a concussion, but was discharged with the club under orders to keep him under observation.
The injury would have calmed the players down but only for so long as Jabloteh’s frustration grew with the doggedness of Connection’s defense and the creative passing of its midfield.
On 30 minutes Andre Toussaint was presented with an opportunity to give Connection the lead when Earl Jean’s cross found him unmarked in the six yard box but his control let him down.
Six minutes later Connection got the breakthrough when Douglas Da Costa’s header off Jose Luiz Seabra’s right wing free kick found its way into the net past the Jabloteh defence.
Connection celebrated while Jabloteh protested that their ‘keeper, Daurance Williams was impeded during the sequence.
Seabra and company continued to pester the Jabloteh backline with some brilliant interplay and almost had a second when their passing set up Viana for a shot, but he cracked it wide.
The goals appeared to take the wind out of Jabloteh’s sails and they trudged into the dressing rooms at half time a goal down.
On the resumption Jabloteh was keen on getting back into the game early on, with Whitley being the main aggressor, but they could not find a way back in.
In the 59th Whitley’s orchestration of a chance for one of his teammates was thwarted by Da Costa who dove to clear the cross.
Jabloteh looked up for the fight and became increasingly physical but Connection’s defence was hanging on by the skin off its teeth.
In the 68th Cyd Gray received a yellow for dissent after a free-kick decision did not go Jabloteh’s way.
And Leon earned himself a yellow two minutes later as referee Shane De Silva stamped her authority on the proceedings.
In the 76th Jean set Viana free on the right side of the Jabloteh area only for Williams (D) to gobble up his shot .
Four minutes later Whitley had no excuse for not drawing level for Jabloteh after he disposed Elijah Joseph and raced in on goal, he however, hurried his shot into Jan Michael William’s open arms.
In the 88th minute things got out of hand as Gray was ejected from the match for violent conduct.
Gefferson Goulart fouled Gray on his way to goal but the caution did not appear to be enough of a sanction for the Jabloteh captain, he earned himself a second yellow and an early shower.
Well into the fourth minute of time added on, Jabloteh won a free kick on the right wing.
And while his delivery had failed him all-evening Wendell Joseph came up with a peach of a delivery that found its way into the net after another goalmouth scramble.
The goal was credited to Trent Noel. Connection now have four points from its first two matches while Jabloteh have one as the jostle for positions intensify.

Mc Farlene nets hat-trick as Rangers power past Tobago.
By: Joel Villafana (ttproleague.com).

It was a night where Superstar Rangers exerted their dominance, while their opponents Tobago United cowered under pressure.
The St. Anns based unit got a hat-trick from their skipper Errol Mc Farlene to register a commanding 5-0 win over Tobago united in the first game of a double header at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.
The Anthony Streete coached Rangers looked a team in search for silverware this year, as they pounced on little Tobago with very little mercy.
The first five minutes of the game was a physical battle in midfield with no team taking the opportunity to settle first, However, it was Tobago United that offered the first strike on goal. In the 8th minute Garth Woodley found himself free inside the area and with space and time on his side cracked a shot that sailed over the bar much to the disappointment of the Tobago bench.
As time went by, Rangers got into their groove and in the 13th minute national midfielder Kerwyn Jemmott swung a beautiful corner, which was met by Christon Thomas, but his attempt was easily handled by the Tobago custodian.
By this time Rangers were controlling the game, with Jemmott connecting well with the newly signed Marc Borde, the both were string the passes from midfield.
Young Devon Modeste had a good spell and in minute 19 he flew down the left flank, out raced a defender, but Mc Farlene hit his neat square ball over the bar.
Five minutes later, it was Modeste again with another slick run down the flank, this time his teasing cross was missed by Mc Farlene and Jemmot, keeping the boys from the sister isle alive.
Nevertheless the deadlock was broken in the 29, when the big Todd Ryan cross, picked out Jemmott, the talented midfeilder controlled the ball with ease holding off a couple defenders, and he volleyed a bullit past the Tobago goalkeeper, Rangers leading 1-0.
As the first half approached its end Tobago received a free kick just on top the 18-yard box, but Garth Woodley curled it high and wide.
Two minutes later Rangers would score their second to go into the dressings rooms with a 2-0 lead. It was a beauty and probably the goal of the game as Christon Thomas played a ball that dissected the hapless Tobago defence for Mc Farlene to run on to and the Rangers skipper slammed home a low drive in clinical fasion, 2-0 Rangers.
In the second period of play Mc Farlene quicky doubled his score when Thomas lobbed a pass, which sailed over the goalkeeper head struck the post and rebounded nicely to Mc Farlene and he simply tapped it home – Rangers leading 3-0.
By this time the men from St. Anns were totally dominating and Kerwyn ‘Hardest’ Jemmott weaved some of his magic, eluding a couple defenders but his shot them wide.
In the 83ed minute Mc Farlene completed his hat-trick when he stepped up to convert a penalty, Rangers completing a 5-0 drubbing of Tobago United taking away maximum points from two matches and sending some clear signals to the rest of the pack.

Dwarika inspire Lions pass woeful Army.
By: Gordon Pierre (ttproleague.com).

A rejuvenated Arnold Dwarika led the defending Pro League champions Joe Public to a workman like 3-0 win over Defence Force in the second game of a double header at the Larry Gomes Stadium, on Tuesday.
In front of a good mid week crowd Defence Force started off much the brighter outfit, but as if as a sign of things to come Army’s young star and National player Christian Baptiste pulled up with an injury in only the third minute and had to be substituted.
After that the game flowed in Joe Public’s favor and they should have gone one up in the 12th minute when Gregory Richardson made a telling run down the left side, but shot over the bar from an acute angle. Public was almost made to pay immediately when one minute later a mix up in the Joe Public defence left Bevon Lewis with the simple task of placing the ball into the back of the net with Joe Public’s keeper Alejandro Figueroa in no man’s land but his attempted lob was wide and high.
Joe Public continued to dominate proceedings and created a few chances up front, one of these came in the 21st minute when an Arnold Dwarika free kick had the Defence Force back line in all sorts of trouble, but unfortunately for the ‘Eastern Lions’, not one player could get a touch to direct it goal ward.
There would be no such luck for the Army in the 32nd minute when Seon Power headed home another Dwarika free kick to give Public a 1-0 lead.
Defence Force should have tied up the scores in the 39th minute but Ronald St Louis miscued his shot after Bevon Lewis did all the hard work to get pass Abassi Mc Pherson and square back the ball to him.
Joe Public almost doubled their lead in the 43rd minute but was denied by an excellent goal line clearance by Jahvon Neptune after a perfectly placed shot by Kerry Baptiste was partially blocked by goalkeeper Kevin Graham to preserve the 1-0 score line to the half.
The second half started with Defence Force looking to be more aggressive but this did not improve their level of play an only resulted in two of their players picking up yellow cards. The game continued to become increasingly physical and was almost fever pitch when Anthony Noreiga came forward to head home a Kerry Baptiste corner to extend Joe public’s lead to 2-0 in the 55th minute.
Gary Glasgow should have gotten his name on the scorecard in the 64th minute after Defence Force keeper Kevin Graham came off his line and missed the ball outside the 18 yard box, but his shot to goal was just wide.
Glasgow would get his name on the sheet however in the 83rd minute when he headed home another Arnold Dwarika free kick to give Joe Public a 3-0 lead.
Though Defence Force would apply some pressure on Joe Public in the dying stages of the game the defending champions would hold on to record their first win of the season and maintain a clean sheet.

Man of the Match – Arnold Dwarika (Joe Public)

Teams:

Joe Public:
- Alejandro Figueroa (gk), Anthony Noreiga, Carey Harris, Dale Saunders (capt), Arnold Dwarika, Gary Glasgow, Kayode Mc Kinnon, Abassi Mc Pherson, Seon Power, Gregory Richardson, Kerry Baptiste (Sean Cooper)

Randolph Jerome salvages point for 'Grande Stars'
By: Randy Bando (ttproleague.com).

Caledonia AIA and Economy North East Stars trashed it out in a physical encounter as they battled to a 1-1 draw in the first match of a double header at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Malabar on Tuesday.
Striker Randolph Jerome second half equalizer ensured the men from Grande got a share of the points after Caledonia held the advantage for most of the match with Nigel Codrington’s first half item.
The encounter had a rough start as both teams fenced it out in the middle of the park for long periods with Caledonia enjoying the better share of possession.
Early signs of aggression between both teams saw Anthony Wolfe suffer a harsh knock to the shin by Caledonia’s Walter Moore’s clumsy challenge just eight minutes into the match. Fortunately for Wolfe his injury wasn’t too serious and he was able to continue.
Caledonia’s aggression and possession bore fruit and they were able to take the lead with Nigel Codrignton’s strike in the 25th minute
Codrington collected a long pass from inside his own area and burst past three North East Stars defenders in his path to clinically slot the ball inside Marvin Phillip far post for the 1-0 advantage.
The ‘Stallions’ then continued to take advantage of North East Stars option to play a defensive style of football in side their own area.
Just over the half hour mark Condrinton was close to another but failed to connect Dwight Peters’ goalmouth cross from the left side.
The last real buildup of the first period was on a counter attack by Caledonia who were dominant up to that point making the North East half their home. Dwight Peters hard run on the right flank in the 37th minute nearly resulted in a goal, but the powerfully built player saw his shot swerve wide of the North East goal to the awe of the supporters who turned up at the Malabar venue.
It was a turn of the tide in the second period as everything ran in favor of the ‘Grande Boys’ possibly with some half time instructions by Coach James Mc Lean.
Their determination was visible from very early into the second period when Akiel Guevara volleyed overbar from Kerwyn Navarro’s left sided cross showing signs of things to come.
Navarro himself had a desperate effort in the 55th minute from some 25 yards out which flew past goalkeeper Woods’ upright.
Coach Jamal Shabazz then tried to pull things together introducing his World Cup player Densill Theobald just over the hour mark but things got worst.
In the 62nd minute misery ran through the Caledonia defence when Guyanese national Randolph Jerome netted the equalizer.
It started off with an individual run by ‘Man of the Match’ Kendall Jagdeosingh who mesmerized the Caledonia left back to play Akiel Guevara goal bound. Guevara’s powerful shot was blocked by a superb diving Charles Pollard and out for a corner.
The quickly taken corner found Guevara and his shot was deflected and blocked by goal keeper Woods, but got only as far Jerome who had easy pickings to tap it into the back of the net and tie things up at 1-1.
Jagdeosingh continued to show a lot of spirit against his former Club cleaning things up at the back and making his daring runs forward as another horror occurred for the Morvant based team.
In the 70th minute goalkeeper Woods had to be stretched off after suffering a knock under the challenge of a cross ball to his previously injured leg. He was replaced by goalkeeper Richard Reynolds two minutes later.
The match winded down with Caledonia’s Captain Sheldon Emmanuel having the last go at goal but his effort proved futile as it sailed wide of goal keeper Marvin Phillip’s goal as both teams had to settle for the one point remaining unbeaten after two matches.

Seems like Drayton on loan from W-Connection. Interesting but understandable. No Kevon Clement starting with Petrotrin? Uhmmm, wasnt he called up for the national team lately?

Who say take Tobago out of the league? Them just giving everybody points and favoring others with better goal difference.

See Anthony score for Joe Public. Nice!! Hope he continue and not get back in his wotless mode again. I see Glasgow getting the goals still...nice job. No Kwame Wilshire in starting line up for Joe Public? National Player?  ??? What about Kendell Davis....former national U-23 and W-Connection standout....Not even on the field for Joe Public?

And what is it with Denzil coming on in the 61st minute for Cali? Is he injured?
