Overview:
One of the surprise teams to advance to the final stage of CONCACAF World Cup qualifying, “Los Chapines” have never appeared in “The Great Tournament.” They advanced from a semi-final round group that featured Costa Rica, Honduras, & Canada. All have whom have appeared in a World Cup. One of the two final round participants that advanced from semi-final round with a negative goal differential [7 goals scored & 9 goals allowed in 6 matches.]

Technical Director:
Ramon ‘El Primitivo’ Maradiaga was on the last Honduran team to advance to the World Cup in Spain 1982 and was at the helm of Honduras near qualifying run in 2002. He has the daunting task of putting together a team with little to no international experience.

Player To Watch:
No nation in World Cup qualifying relies on one player more than Guatemala relies on Carlos Ruiz. “Los Chapines” rely on the 24-year old Los Angeles Galaxy striker to score goals and provide leadership. “El Pescadito” aka “The Little Fish” also has 6 goals in qualifying and is the only player on the Guatemalan roster with major competitive experience. He is a former MLS Most Valuable Player and MLS Champion with L.A.
Germany 2006 Qualifying Prediction:
Because of the strength of the U.S., Mexico, & Costa Rica, “Los Chapines” should realistically expect to fight for 4th place and a shot at Germany 2006 by facing the 5th place Asian zone qualifier.
