Richard “Shaka” Roy scored a goal and made another as ten-man Defence Force blanked Police 2-0 in a sluggish encounter in the T&T Pro League at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo, yesterday.
After a less than inspiring first 45 minutes that may have left the few fans wondering why they had left their home on a wet and rainy afternoon, the “Teteron Boys” began the second-half in much more convincing fashion.
And after a few close misses at both ends of the field, Defence Force found themselves down to ten-men.
Defender David Alleyne was shown his second yellow-card for a reckless foul on Noel Williams in the 69th minute, but that seemed to spur on his team who took the lead soon after.
Despite a player down, Defence Force went 1-0 up in the 71st minute when Roy found some space on the top right hand corner of the penalty area and blasted his effort into the bottom right hand corner past the dive of goalkeeper Anthony Marshall.
Six minutes later, Roy fed an un-marked Devon Jorsling who saw his weak attempt skid under the body of Marshall and into the goal.
With the win, Defence Force improved to 18 points and fifth spot, three behind VIBE CT 105 W Connection.
At the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya, defending champions bmobile Joe Public wasted a chance to go top of the table after being held to a 0-0 draw by W Connection.
With the point, the Eastern Lions moved to 26 points from 13 matches, one adrift of joint leaders CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh and Neal & Massy Caledonia AIA.
Today, Jabloteh will have a chance to reclaim sole possession of top spot against Economy North East Stars at Sangre Grande Recreation Ground, from 4 pm.
In the second match at Mucurapo, a 69th goal from Walter Moore secured a 1-0 win for Neal & Massy Caledonia AIA who moved level on points with Jabloteh at the top.
Down South at the Palo Seco Recreation Ground, host United Petrotrin followed up its 5-0 drubbing of Police with an equally as impressive 4-0 blow-out of Tobago United.
Marlon Lewis scored for the Oilmen in the 31st and 84th minutes, while Peter Prosper got his fourth in two matches with a 22nd strike and Sylvester Teesdale, the other.
