U-23 squad faces tough test in Trinidad.

Five-game tour of Caribbean lined up as preparation for the Olympics.

Bermuda are lining up a five-game tour of the Caribbean next month as preparation for the Olympics.
Kenny Thompson's under-23 side, which have just returned from the Island Games in Rhodes, are inked in to play three games in Trinidad with two more matches in Barbados and Grenada in the pipeline.
FIFA technical advisor Alvin Corneal, a former Trinidad international who was in Bermuda this week to conduct a review of the island's football infrastructure, helped to set up the tour.
Bermuda will play first on August 2 against Trinidad and Tobago's Under-17 team, which will be playing its final game before competing in the Youth World Cup.
A game against a strong Trinidad Under-23 side, also in preparation for the Olympics, follows on August 4 with a further match-against club side W-Connection Wanderers scheduled for two days later.
BFA president Larry Mussenden said the games would be good preparation for a tough Olympic qualifying round in Cuba later this year.
"The association wants to provide some training matches for the under-23 team," he said.
"We've been able to avail ourselves of Alvin's contacts in Trinidad and set up some matches."
He added that the Trinidad and Tobago Football Association was also trying to set up further matches in Barbados and Grenada.
Corneal said the Trinidad portion of the tour would provide tough competition for the Bermuda boys.
"I think the Trinidad Under-17s will be a very tough game because they are about to go to the World Cup.
"The Under-23s has a very strong side. Some of them are playing in England and I think at least four of them are in our senior team."
Silvio Spann, a reported target for EPL side Sunderland, is one of the stars of the Under-23 team, according to Corneal.
Spann, who achieved 15 minutes of international fame with a sensational 50-yard free-kick goal against El Salvador, has also played in Italy and Japan.
Another star of the under-23 side is Chris Birchall, the Port Vale winger who made headlines by becoming only the second white guy to play for Trinidad and Tobago at the World Cup. The 21-year-old is from Tunstall in Staffordshire, England, but qualifies to play for Trinidad because his mum was born in Port of Spain.

Neither Silvio Spann nor Chris Birchall is on the current U-23 side (Olympic Team). That report might ? be bogus !!!!

Btw, according to Shaun report, the U-17 playing the Olympic team today....

T&T U17s lose 2-1

TWENTY-ONE parents and nine officials will accompany the Trinidad and Tobago national under-17 football team to South Korea for the FIFA Under-17 World Cup which takes place from August 18-September 9.

The 30-member party, consisting of one parent of each player on the team, is being sponsored by the Trinidad and Tobago Government and is due to leave on August 14 for New York, before taking the 15-hour flight to South Korea the next day. While there they will witness preliminary matches against Ghana on August 20, Colombia on August 23 and Germany on August 26.

Yesterday, most of the parents were at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva, for a final meeting to finalise travel arrangements.

And the national under-17 players are due to leave Trinidad on Sunday for Holland, where they train for a week, before heading to South Korea on August 12.

In Holland, they will play two warm-up matches and officials are also hoping for a final one while in Korea. Before leaving T&T, the youths are due to have a farewell dinner tonight at House of Chan restaurant in St Augustine.

In other news, most of the players were not affected by the theft earlier this week of manager Christopher Govia's car, which contained some of the team's travel documents. The three players affected are due to get T&T passports today.

Also at the Ato Boldon Stadium yesterday, parents watched their sons in a final practise match. However, the World Cup-bound Under-17s went down 2-1 to the national under-23 squad, which is preparing for an Olympic Games qualifying tournament in Suriname this month.

A goal on either side of half-time by Stefan St Louis and Christopher Sam gave the U23s a 2-0 lead, before midfielder Sean De Freitas got a late goal for the U17s, striking a low, 25-metre shot which skidded off the wet surface.

The second half saw Under-17 substitute goalie Jesse Fullerton making several saves, as there were lapses in concentration by the defence.

Afterwards, Under-17 coach Anton Corneal said while he was pleased with the physical presence which the bigger and faster U23s presented, he was not always thrilled with his team's defending.

"I though we struggled in central defence and it made me rethink some of the things we are doing, and even our playing personnel, in the sense of who should start in that position."

Corneal felt some of his players were not doing well in the middle of the park and he is considering a starting defensive position for utility player Daniel Cyrus, who is normally the left midfielder, but did well when switched to defence late in the match.
