‘Pres’ whip ‘Naps’ 2-0 for Memorial Trophy.

Jamal Clarence and Akida Boisseiere got their names on the scoresheet as Presentation San Fernando whipped Naparima 2-0 to claim the sixth annual Carl Osbourne/Val Turton Memorial Trophy at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella on Saturday last.
“Naps”, who were preparing for Wednesday’s Big 5 final against San Juan (which they lost 3-2), fielded an under-strength team for the contest, and they fell behind in the 12th minute when Clarence drilled a rebound effort past Naps’ goalkeeper Jadel Wright.
Boisseire added Pres’ second in the 40th, following up on a header by Clarence. The Carl Osbourne/Val Turton Memorial is the brainchild of Fred Thornhill, Ken Davis, Theo Coqueran and Victor Hughes all of whom wanted to honour Val Turton, an ex-national and Presentation College player, and Carl Osbourne, another ex-Trinidad and Tobago and Naps standout.
The funds amassed from gate receipts and various sponsors of the Carl Osbourne/Val Turton Memorial go towards bursaries for footballers from Naparima, Presentation College and now girls from the SSFL girls Championship Division. Sixteen students receive bursaries of $5,000 each. The Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) has fully endorsed the Memorial, and has made arrangements to make this a permanent fixture the first Saturday after the league has been completed every year.
The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.
