Connection haunt league leaders.
By: Lasana Liburd (Express).

Jumpy Jabloteh

CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh still lead the 2007 Pro League pack but they must spend an awful amount of time peering into their rear view at the moment.
Coach Terry Fenwick dismissed any suggestion of a crisis at Jabloteh but a 2-1 loss to Vibe CT 105 W Connection on Saturday evening-the club's third loss from their past four meetings with Pro League teams-would surely have reinvigorated domestic rivals, not least defending champions bmobile Joe Public.
Worse still, Jabloteh's disciplinary record continues to concern many in and outside the club's headquarters.
Fenwick has just completed a three-match ban for abusive language to a match official and is before the Pro League Disciplinary Committee on another charge for speaking out of turn, while on the field, the expulsions of Ian Gray and Khaleem Hyland on Saturday were the third red cards brandished for Jabloteh within a week.
Fenwick accepted that Gray, who was also expelled in a 1-0 loss to Public last Tuesday, and Hyland were both at fault and are likely to be disciplined internally. However, the Englishman insisted that his team was not in free fall.
"I don't see other teams outplaying us," Fenwick told the Express yesterday. "We just need to get our shooting boots on."
It seemed a partial truth on Saturday. Cornell Glen, a Trinidad and Tobago 2006 World Cup player, spurned two decent scoring opportunities but then so did Connection attackers Jonathan Frias, Jose Seabra and captain Earl Jean.
It is difficult to ignore too Connection's record of three wins and as many draws in the six meetings between the clubs this season.
"They play 18-yard box to 18-yard box," said Fenwick. "You have to travel a long distance all the time to penetrate their defence while they sit deep and counter.
"I still think we have a better team but we just haven't made our chances count."
Fenwick will get a final crack against Connection this season in Tuesday's FA Cup quarter-final clash but surely the Pro League crown is his first priority.
He complained about Jabloteh's grueling schedule due to League, FA Trophy, Toyota Classic and CFU Championship assignments, although Public have fared better despite playing an additional game in that time frame with a smaller squad.
It is strange too that Glen, arguably the club's most dynamic attacker on paper, has received only sporadic playing time within that period.
On Saturday, the "Soca Warrior" made his first start in Jabloteh's past four domestic outings but looked out of touch as he shoveled overbar from six metres, midway through the first half, and then was denied by Connection goalkeeper Marvin Phillip in the 55th minute.
Glen cut a melancholy figure as he was replaced by Antiguan Peter Byers with 20 minutes remaining. Jabloteh could do with his individual talent at the moment and perhaps there should have been a more deliberate attempt to play the former LA Galaxy stand-out into form over the past month.
Connection boss Stuart Charles-Fevrier credited Jabloteh's resolve but suggested his opponent had become too predictable.
"It was a real tough game," said Fevrier, "but I thought that we were tactically better, especially in the second half. We have gotten used to how they play, which is direct and tough and very dependent on their flanks.
"They haven't beaten us in over 18 months."
It might have turned out differently if Glen had done better in the 20th minute. The Jabloteh bench clapped encouragingly but, within seconds, Connection were ahead as Hughton Hector ghosted behind Jabloteh right back Dwayne Jack to collect the ball and steer it into the far corner.
Five minutes later, Jack was again at fault. The lanky defender tried to clear an in-swinging Seabra corner kick while facing the Jabloteh goal but only managed to double Connection's lead as his strike went in off the underside of the bar.
Jabloteh captain Trent Noel responded with the goal of the match in the 43rd minute-a superb effort into the far corner from 25 metres-but Connection looked the more clever side as Jean constantly threatened while the 23-year-old Hector made light of the injury-forced absence of playmakers Aurtis Whitley and Gefferson Goulart.
"My personal view is that Hector should be in the national set up," said Fevrier. "He is one of the best young talents in the country and he was easily the man of the match."
The San Juan club continued to press until the final whistle but their job became more difficult after Gray and Hyland picked up second yellow cards for reckless challenges. Jabloteh's own League challenge could suffer as a result.
The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.

Wicked report Lasana, try and get the line ups though.... but thanks as usual, nice read.....

Anyway, allyuh think Terry Fenwick is over his head now ? as it seems he cannot win a single cup for the past seasons... ? Pro League, Toyota Classic, FA (maybe) and Prow Bowl ? whats the deal ?

Maybe Terry should be a defensive coach at the club and let a more technical coach come in to help such a good team like Jabloteh who have money to do much better. Jabloteh should be competing in ig tournaments and doing good to, they have more to go big they even wanted a based a Miami and only because they were blanked it never happened.

I just hope Terry make McComie look like a fool and win de dam league this time. Joe Public not bad, but I just cant stand that stupid McComie.

But then again W Connection from south and I will have to support them even though they have a lot of foreign players on they team.

North East Guyanese not doing to good this season to, compare their last season.... and Guyanese AIA flop again....  :rotfl:  were morvant man...

Both Hyland and Ian Gray does play very hard, they need to be more composed and relax to be better defenders, Carlon Murray is de same thing to.... Terry turning them fellas onto rassel-lers.

Glen better wake the hell up before he sit in T&T for a long time.... Such good players who based in T&T just lose they head. Wonder why.... but once they go away they do such better. None of our local based 2006 WC players doing good....
