Inevitable that a player of his calibre would want to play for a big club at some stage of his career.

yeah we know he def won't be going chelsea

Well your statement that arsenal don't win trophies will only make sense if you're 7 or younger... ;)

Arsenal board under fire

Usmanov and Moshiri express concerns after RVP blow

Alisher Usmanov and Farhad Moshiri have hit out at the Arsenal board in the wake of Robin van Persie's decision not to extend his contract.

Usmanov and Moshiri are major shareholders in the Gunners via their Red & White Securities investment vehicle, and have written a letter to the club's hierarchy in the wake of the events of the past 24 hours.

Red & White Securities hold around 30 per cent of shares in the Gunners' parent company, which was the subject of a takeover in 2011 by American tycoon Stan Kroenke.

Van Persie announced on Wednesday afternoon that he would not remain at Emirates Stadium beyond the final 12 months of his contracts following discussions with manager Arsene Wenger and chief executive Ivan Gazidis.

The Gunners captain, who bagged 30 goals in the Premier League last season to secure the Golden Boot, admitted that he could not find a common ground with the club over their future plans and ambitions for silverware.

"Yet again we are faced with losing our true marquee player at the club because we cannot assure him of the future direction and give confidence that we can win trophies."
Red & White Securities Quotes of the week

Cheaper replacements

Usmanov and Moshiri believe Wenger's hands are being tied by the stance of the club's board and they fear the club's best players will continue to depart unless changes are made.

"It is down to our manager and not the shareholders to have to deal with the club's tight finances, carry the burden of repaying the stadium debt by selling his best players and having to continue to find cheaper replacements," the duo wrote.

"All of that, naturally, comes at the expense of performance on the pitch.

"This policy is leading to the loss of our best players, often to our main competitors, and even causes the players themselves to question their future at the club and the club's ambitions.

"The situation with our captain and outstanding performer from last season, Robin van Persie, sums this up.

Great manager

"Yet again we are faced with losing our true marquee player at the club because we cannot assure him of the future direction and give confidence that we can win trophies.

"Where are the safeguards to ensure that this doesn't happen again and again in the future?

"As a top club we should, at the very least, match if not beat the offers that other clubs make to try and lure our very best players away, and also provide a more compelling vision of the future.

"You can try and put a good face on a bad game for as long as you want, pontificating about the merits of this model, but it will not hide the obvious fact that it just does not allow our great manager to fully realise his managerial talent and deliver success for the fans who are paying the highest prices in the land."
Red & White Securities Quotes of the week

"You can try and put a good face on a bad game for as long as you want, pontificating about the merits of this model, but it will not hide the obvious fact that it just does not allow our great manager to fully realise his managerial talent and deliver success for the fans who are paying the highest prices in the land."

Crowning achievement

Red & White, who point out they have "invested circa £200million of cash", set out their "vision" for Arsenal.

The letter added: "It is simple. A debt free club, with a big enough war chest to buy top talent players who can hit the ground running and who can complement the club's long tradition of developing young players and homegrown talent.

"Together they can help the club win the most prestigious trophies - because it is the trophies which are the crowning achievement for everybody at the club.

"Finally and reflecting our long-term commitment to the club, we will continue to purchase more shares in the club from anyone who wants to sell them to us.

"Also in order to formalise our long-term involvement with the club and put an end to any speculation over our position, we, as the co-owners of Red & White, will proudly retain our holding in the club as a long-term investment for ourselves and our family members to benefit for generations to come.

"We want the absolute best for the club and will do what is necessary to ensure the success of the club that we all love."
If a free society cannot help the many who are poor it cannot save the few who are rich.

The football landscape changed dramatically in the EPL. Chelsea and Man City in their own league when it comes to spending. RVP wants to win trophies and I believe that (unlike others who bail for $$). What hard for me to understand is, RVP only played one full season for Arsenal and that was last year. He has always been injured and he should think back on how the club stuck by him in those times. If he stays, along with the new players bought & maybe two more signings Arsenal will have a decent squad.

A club is supposed to look after a player when they are injured.  Arsenal didn't do anything special by keeping him through injury.
Plus they knew how good he was all that time, and later on how much shit the rest of the forward line was, so it was always in their best interests to keep him.

jedd is not like is 1 season he was injured.  is like 7.    name me one high profile baller who spend so much seasons injured at any club.  i ent mad at robin tho.  i know money talks.   i, like many other fans already resigned to him leaving and hope that poldi and giroud could get a few goals.  we will need a good few players to chip in with goals nex season.

Do you remember if in any of those seasons that it looked like selling him was the better option?  To me, Arsenal never sacrificed anything by keeping him, it was always obvious that they had a gem, and needed to work on keeping him healthy.  In fact the amount of injury problems within the Arsenal squad in recent years suggests that RVP probably didn't get the best care available.

This is 2012. Expecting loyalty from a player because you stood by him when he was injured isn't realistic. Real people was calling for the club to sell RVP. Look at Diaby now. I think he is a bawse midfielder but he so ridiculously injury prone I just give up on him and want them to sell him. If he could stay fit for more than 5 minutes I think he would be another Yaya Toure. Wenger go stick with him and the one season he fit he will milk it to get a big money move elsewhere.

No matter. We replaced Anelka with Kanu, Kanu with Henry, Henry with Adebayor, Adebayor with RVP. Now Poldi or Giroud will just have to take up the mantle.

Maybe so, but did Rosiky not state that he got some tempting offers from China and Russia, but felt he owed Arsenal
for the way they stood by him through the injury years.
To some extent I agree with the fans, sell RVP now for big money. He had a remarkable season in 2011-12, but I just have
a gut feeling that he will not do it consistently. Still see him as being made of sugar.

I was hoping he would show that same kind of loyalty and he was a very good captain in addition to his ability as a forward. Sad and surprised that he didn't but you can't expect that all the time.

Apparently that was the offer he turned down before Euros.

After that message on his website I think his staying would poison the team. He has to go IMO.

Arsenal sign Spain midfielder Santi Cazorla
http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/arsenal-sign-spain-midfielder-santi-cazorla

Great signing. Excellent business done this summer. I wonder if RVP still "disagrees with the direction of the club". Hoping for a holding midfielder as well but I doubt one coming, based on Le Prof's comments.

Don't really see how RVP to United helps them. Yeah he big but United already full up with good strikers. They still need to address their ageing midfield and weak fullbacks. Of the 3 clubs who were looking at him, this one probably makes the least sense.

Disappointed he went to United given the history between the clubs but the club knew he was leaving and prepared for it quite well. I am more worried about the Song and Walcott situations.

Anger makin Arsenal men talk real funny.  The league's top scorer would improve any side.  Besides Rooney all Man U's other strikers are inconsistent.

Ok. I mean the money could be better spent elsewhere. Scoring goals isn't United's problem.

jah gol...i respectfully disagree.   arsenal simply could not match the money manu were willing to pay him...plain and simple.  everyone knows arsenal have a wage system in place and to break that for anyone is ludicrous.   rvp was far and away the highest earner (and rightfully so i might add) i am a diehard gooner but i admit that perhaps rvp saw that he had a better chance of winning trophies there as well.    i can't wait for this season i think that (as usual) we will surprise people.
