Trinidad and Tobago Senior Interim Head Coach Francisco Maturana received a warm welcome in his first official meet with officials of the TT Pro League on Wednesday at the League’s office in Valpark.
Mataurana along with National Senior Team Manager David Mohammed, Assistant Coaches Anton Cornel, Cesar Maturana and Trainer Jorge Luiz met with coaching staff and officials of the TT Pro League in efforts to discuss their programs for the 2008 calendar as it relates to this country’s 2010 World Cup qualifying campaign.
Pro League CEO Dexter Skeene told the National Coaches, “We are here to assist for the benefit of Trinidad and Tobago and we hope that this is the start to a good relationship between the national team and our teams and coaches.”
High on the agenda was the harmonization of both the national team schedule of training and matches and the TT Pro League 2008 calendar.
Both parties left the meeting pleased with the discussions on the initiatives and measures to be put in place for the future of the National Team.
TT Pro League Chairman Larry Romany reiterated continued commitment to ensure the success of the National Team, which was well accepted by the National Coaches.
Maturana meeting with club officials for the first time said that he is happy to be part of the national project which is 2010. But he was quick to explain, “My experience as national team coach is that if the League and National Team doesn’t work together, then my job gets harder,” said the former Columbia and El Salvador coach.
He added, “To have a good national team means having a good national league.”
Maturana also gave his assurance to work closely with clubs and coaches in efforts to helping players reach the international level.
In a release by the TTFF over the two hours meeting with the TT Pro League, Corneal said, “The meeting was a very positive one.”
He added, “It was really about harmonizing our plan with the League as it relates to the international campaign for the country’s senior team in 2008 onwards for the 2010 qualification bid. At the end of it, all parties were on the same page and were firm on implementing what is best for the national program and of course the League.”
Maturana is expected to announce a provisional training squad this week to resume preparations next week leading up to the March 26 friendly international with Jamaica in Kingston and a proposed friendly against El Salvador in T&T at a date to be confirmed in March.
