Andre Baptiste, Alvin Corneal, Sedley Joseph and company should watch this to get a lesson on de rudiments of relaxed commentary...

Dem men does commentate like dey feel dey on de radio and you cyah see what going on..

Madrid hitting a bump in form (or at least results)......I think this is their 3rd loss in the last 4 games.

i thought Shaka did well today...

He was in the secondary, analyst type role like how Tommy Smith does conduct it weighing in with observations and tidbits while the main fellah handling de running commentary...

In the 2nd half seemed like he tail off a bit and had a lot less to say, i thought he couldve said a bit more..

what i like is that he wasn't compromising or freshwatering up the trini accent too much, but was speaking clearly and was eloquent as well..

I'm guessing this won't be a one-off since usually when ESPN brings people on board the football commentary team, they are assigned games in all the champions league rounds..

And to get Real Madrid v Roma means he's already on the second tier (First tier is Derek Rae, Tommy Smyth & co who did the Liverpool v Inter live game)..

Well done Shaka! Didn't see it (any youtube clips?) but he was excellent in the "studio analyst" role on Match of the Day in the UK a few years ago, and it's no surprise that he made the switch to commentary without a problem. Shaka is 100% class  :beermug:

Don't forget Corneal: "Not a particularly good ball there..."
or
Dave Lamy: " And Argentina have the ball...now it goes to Gabriel Batis...tu....Batis....and he gives the ball away.."
or
Ashford Jackman: "Maradooona shows his skill there"

Not a fair comparison...play by play is harder than analysis because rather than offer insight into the game, the play by play man must be possessed with verbal spontaneity a descriptive mind and clarity of both thought and speech.  Not as easy as it sounds, but them fellas did the best they could I guess.  Shaka was good and it would be nice to see him get in on the regular rotation.

Ah guess not everybody was impressed:

Shaka Hislop is quite simply dreadful and drums up about as much excitement as a stamp collectors' meeting. In addition to this his voice has a murky, monotone quality which means that much of the time it is very hard to make out what he is saying.

And bobbity, haven't heard much of Shaka. Seen him once or twice on Press Pass and he was fairly average. Comes across as a typical laid-back Jamaican...which is bad really, because he doesn't have much of a personality.

Geographically illiterate jack*ss... :beermug:

Saw it and it ran across my mind that Shaka looked a bit under-dressed, compared to Tommy Smyth and company.  Believe it or not though, Shaka is growing into a household name for soccer analysis.  I think ESPN is doing a good job keeping that team together....a good mix of notable former players and longstanding pundits.
