TTFF & Maraval Foundation links up for football clinic.
By: Shaun Fuentes (TTFF).

The Maraval Foundation has linked up with the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation to host the first ever Football Development Clinic in the district on Saturday 19th April 2008, at the Pascall Recreation Ground, from 2pm to 5pm.

The clinic will cater for boys and girls between the ages 8-17 with the overall  objective being to reinforce basic values, life skills, self-discipline, camaraderie and teamwork through sports, especially to the youths in the primary schools of Maraval/Bossiere and its environs.

TTFF Technical Director Lincoln Phillips explained the purpose for the staging of such a clinic. “It is our firm conviction that this event will serve as a catalyst to rekindle the passion, fun and enjoyment for sports, that was so common-place within our society,” Phillips told TTFF Media.

Over one hundred and twenty-five youths have already registered for the clinic which will be directed by Phillips who will be assisted by Muhammad Isa, Director of the Stern John's Skill Program. They will have the support of the technical staff and players of the T&T Women's U-17 team, plus other competent TTFF License coaches.

The Minister of Works and Transport and Parliamentary Representative for the area, Minister Colm Impert, will be on hand to formally open the proceedings. Immediately following, the participants will go to their various locations on the field. They will be introduced to drills and exercises designed to improve their skill and technical levels. This is expected to be the first in a series of clinics to follow. All registered participants are advised to be at the venue no later than 12:30pm. The 200 odd participants will be chosen from Maraval and its environs (Le Plette, Paramin, Hale Land Park, Saddle, Pork Chop, La Sieva, Bossiere, and the Village). All participants will be registered and processed by the Maraval Foundation Administrative staff. A data base of all participants will be established and maintained for future football activities.

The TTFF is proud to team up with the Maraval Foundation, under the presidency of Roger Matthew, in this worthy endeavor. Phillips relayed some more about the TTFF’s efforts to conduct similar development courses throughout the country, particularly in some of the rural areas.

“The plan is to use the same format throughout the entire country to identify and develop our youth players (Boys and Girls) from as young as 5 years of age. Fortunately we have already certified  approximately 500 ‘D’ license coaches throughout the country who are already familiar with the clinic-style method of player/skill development. Furthermore, we have certified 25 Defence Force Professional players in the ‘D’ license program,” Phillips added.

Twenty-Five more coaches will be certified in April 23-28. It is expected that the Defence Force coaches will serve the youth in the Carenage/Diego Martin area. The Police Service and the Prison Officers have already benefited from D license courses and these coaches are already making their presence felt in the community, according to Phillips.
The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.
