United Petrotrin gets four wins.
By: Kendall Garcia (Guardian).

United Petrotrin maintained its lead at the top of the T&T Pro League table when it defeated Vibe CT 105 W Connection 1-0, at the Palo Seco Recreation Ground, for win number four from as many matches yesterday.

Simeon Augustus was the hero for the “Oilmen” with the lone strike in the 63rd minute to push the Brian Williams-coached team to maximum 12 points, two ahead of defending champions Clico San Juan Jabloteh. Jabloteh hammered St Ann’s Rangers 5-0 at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Malabar, with five different players on target.

At the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya, the “Eastern Lions” bmobile Joe Public tore Ma Pau to shreds, 3-1 after a 0-0 first 45 minutes.

Kerry Baptiste was the architect of the Joe Public win with two goals, to up his tally to five while he also created the third.

Akhel Fairbain had created the best chance of the half for Ma Pau when his well-directed header came back off the underside of the crossbar. Baptiste sprung into action, with two strikes in four minutes. First in the 52nd minute, he picked up the ball just outside “D” and shot past the outstretched arm of Marshall for a 1-0 lead.

Four minutes later the nippy midfielder beat Marshall from a little close to double his team’s advantage.

In the 70th minute, the veteran Arnold Dwarika played a clever right-side free-kick to Bapitiste who then played a pass to an unmarked Keyeno Thomas who easily side-footed home from point blank range to put the match beyond doubt before Rennie Britto scored a consolation goal for Ma Pau in time added on.

In yesterday’s other match, Neal & Massy Caledonia AIA beat Defence Force 2-1 at Malabar, with Nigel Codrington scoring an 86th minute winner. Kendall Velox had given Caledonia the lead in the 49th minute before Devon Jorsling levelled the score in the 80th minute.

United Petrotrin hosted visiting St Vincent and the Grenadines to a friendly match at the Palo Seco Recreation Grounds on Wednesday afternoon which ended in a tight 0-0 finish. They went under to Clico San Juan Jabloteh 4-2 in their first friendly last Wednesday at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium and on Tuesday they earned 2-0 win over Joe Public at the Marvin Lee Stadium.
