Ma Pau shoot down 'Stars'

Ma Pau pulled off a big upset to complete their first win in the T&T Pro League, with a 3-0 thrashing of North East Stars at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella yesterday.
Aided by national striker Cornell Glen in the 50th minute and abetted by Sayid Freitas (56th) and Christon Freitas (77th), Ma Pau pumped three unanswered goals past the Sangre Grande-based "Stars" for their first victory at the top local club level.
And Unitd Petrotrin stretched their winning streak to five matches in the Pro League, easing past Defence Force 2-0 at the Palo Seco Recreation Ground.
Goals on either side of halftime by Keon Daniel (25th) and Jerol Forbes (75th) condemned the "Army" to another loss, without their most reliable forward in Devon Jorsling, who is missing through suspension.

Newboys Ma Pau celebrated their first Pro League victory in style on Saturday trashing North East Stars 3-0 at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium in their Round One Match Day Five fixture.
Second half strikes by Cornell Glen and cousins Sayid and Christon Freitas earned the Ron La Forest coached side maximum points against the ailing North East Stars. Ma Pau with four points, just as Defence Force and Tobago United are maintaining 8th position on the League standings after five matchdays.
Ma Pau will now enjoy a psychological advantage on the Sangre Grande based club as they face each other again on Tuesday in their Courts Pro Bowl qualifier.
North East Stars failed to take the lead in the 10th minute when Akeil Guevara decided to go for power after a pass by Anthony Wolfe set him free on goal. His low and hard effort was directed at goalkeeper Anthony marshall who held comfortably. Guevara had another chance on goal in the 16th minute and this time he had a much better effort which curled just wide of Marshall’s upright.
Ma Pau’s highly rated striker Cornell Glen hammered low at goal on the half hour mark but North East Stars Guyanese custodian Andrew Durrant was quick enough to get low to make a save. Less than a minute later Rennie Britto sailed an effort over bar in another Ma Pau effort.
In the 33rd minute, NES World Cup player Anthony Wolfe back in the squad dribbled his way inside the Ma Pau area latching onto a crossball and had a shot, but goalkeeper Marshall was on top of his game to push it out for a corner.
Three minutes from the halftime whistle an unmarked Cornell Glen headed wide off Quincy Charles cross and on the other end less than a minute later Sylvester Teesdale had a crack on goal from distance which sailed into goalkeeper Marshall’s arms comfortably.
But just five minutes into the second period Cornell Glen headed Ma Pau into the lead after winger Quincy Charles picked him out well in the area as the home team enjoyed a 1-0 advantage.
Ma pau doubled their advantage in the 56th minute when Sayid Freitas landed the ball inside Durrant’s far post for a 2-0 cushion in a matter of six minutes.
North East Stars head coach Kenwick Elie made a couple of second half changes as to restore some sort of faith but that didn’t change the shape of the match.
In the 64th minute Rennie Britto selfishly failed to convert Ma pau’s third with Cornell Glen free inside the area—but Britto opted for goal under pressure, only to crash the ball into the upright.
But in the 78th minute substitute Christon Freitas comforted Ma Pau 3-0 when he converted a Rennie Britto cross past Durrant, putting the match out of North East Stars reach.
