'Compre' rout Malick in North SSFL.
By: Kern De Freitas.

Mucurapo Senior Comprehensive remained within range of Fatima College at the top of the North Zone of the 2005 BG T&T Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) after romping to a 5-0 victory over Malick Secondary Senior Comprehensive at Fatima ground yesterday.
The win means Mucurapo-who stopped Fatima 1-0 on Wednesday-avenged both their first round losses, as they were defeated by Malick by a 1-0 scoreline in Round One.
The home team started the match brightly and it all went wrong for Malick, Mucurapo midfielder Atullah Guerra beating Malick 'keeper Gabriel Daniel in the sixth minute to give his team the lead.
Malick were not without opportunities, though, and found room to counter-attack in the first period, but their finishing just was not there, Nicholas Alexander deciding to pass a ball across goal to Kevon Ross with just the goalkeeper to beat and wasting a perfect chance to level the scores.
With the interval approaching, it seemed the half-time score would be 1-0, after near-misses from Guerra, who mis-kicked in front of goal, then Richard Roy, who dragged wide from close up.
But Keron Cummins made it 2-0 in the 38th, banging in a low shot from a rebound.
The second half began even worse for Malick. With barely one minute on the clock, Jesse Alexander collected the ball on the left and out-paced his marker, and crossing in front of goal as he approached the 18-metre area, with Khaleel Highland converting. Mucurapo were leading 3-0.
In the 52nd minute Mucurapo striker Akim Armstrong showed some wonderful individual skill to keep possession of the ball in an 18-metre box that was crowded with Malick defenders, before squeezing the ball into the near post for a four-goal advantage.
In the 63rd, and then 65th minutes, Mucurapo custodian Denzil Cazabon was called on to make two brilliant saves to deny Malick's Hackim Phillip, and then Stefan Ramdial.
Ten minutes later defender Corneal Thomas, who had a sturdy game in defence, got in the way of Phillip's shot, which seemed destined for goal.
But after Atullah Guerra booted a free kick over bar in the 89th minute, he made amends a minute later, making some room in the penalty area and blasting home for Mucurapo's fifth.
After one minute of regulation time, the game ended 5-0 to Mucurapo, meaning they remain just behind Fatima on goal difference, after Fatima defeated St Mary's College 9-0 at St Mary's ground on Serpentine Road.
In the other SSFL North Zone match yesterday, QRC trounced Tranquility Government Secondary 6-0 at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.

Naparima College extended their lead in the South Zone of the BG T&T Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) when they turned back nearest rivals Princes Town Senior Comprehensive 3-0 yesterday at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella.
The boys in blue and white opened the scoring in as early as the third minute when defender Adisa Connell beat goalkeeper Rondell Renwick with a low shot after a long pass from the left by Renato Ramlochan.
"Naps" continued to pressure their opponents after that early success. But they just could not penetrate the tight P. Town defence of Kevin Charles, Kheel Ferrera and Darion Alexander. However, a minute from the half-time interval, Nigel Wright eventually made it 2-0.
Following a right side lob from Ramlochan, Wright headed home past a bewildered-looking Renwick in goal.
One minute after the resumption, defender Cion Samuel put the visitors out of the game with a fierce header after Javed Mohammed's right side corner taken with his left foot. Naparima move to 21 points, seven clear of Princes Town, who have a game in hand.

What kind of thing is this star...team loosing 18-0, team loosing 7-something, team failing to show up. This is what we league going to. It sounding like a minor league or something star. I remember back in 1995 how Inter-Col use to be. Even recently in 1998 and 1999 it was real competitive. But since 2003 to know i realise a big drop in standard of play star. That is sad.
