EA sells the same FIFA game two years in a row — again
By Chris Morris

A little over a year ago, Electronic Arts found itself in hot water after it admitted selling Wii owners a recycled version of FIFA 12 in FIFA 13.

Apparently, the company didn't learn from that misstep.

EA has confirmed to Pocket Gamer that this year's version of FIFA 14 for the PlayStation Vita is simply a re-skinned version of last year’s FIFA 13 -- which, it's worth noting, was just a re-skinned version of the first FIFA game for the system.

It's the gaming equivalent of slapping a new coat of paint onto a car and selling it as brand new. And while the game won't be out until September 24, fan outrage is already starting to grow.
"Shame on you EA," wrote user 'Gambini' on CVG.

"Disgusting! Bad enough to pull that trick once...but twice?? Hope nobody buys it!" chimed in Eurogamer reader 'weejok'.

EA originally told Eurogamer that FIFA 14 would contain "the same great gameplay and new kits."

Last September, EA had sold nearly 4 million copies of its popular soccer simulation before Wii owners found out that their version was essentially the exact same game as the previous year.

EA shrugged off criticism at the time by saying they "felt it was important to continue to offer fans the opportunity to play an authentic football experience on Wii" -- a nicer way of saying the Wii wasn't important to them anymore.

It's not hard to make a same logical leap for the Vita. Sales of the handheld system haven't exactly set records for Sony. A year ago -- the last time life to date sales for the Vita were announced -- the number stood at a mere 2.2 million. That's certainly increased substantially, but the system is hardly a hot seller.

To give it a boost, Sony announced a Vita price cut earlier this week at the Gamescom event in Germany and is working hard to integrate the Vita into the PlayStation 4 experience.

You'd think, perhaps, that in offering a twice-reheated game, EA might lower the retail price. You'd be wrong, though. Retailers are selling FIFA 14 for the Vita as a premium $40 title.

The good news? You can simply download FIFA 13 these days for just $14.

The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.

Leyton Orient coach bars team from playing FIFA 14 on match days
October 9th, 2013
by Matt Stead

As far as excuses for a drop in performance go, this one should be top of the list.

English football league club Leyton Orient are flying high at the top of the third division in the country. With eight wins from their first eight games, two draws from their next two has left their manager angry, despite their unexpected lofty league position.

After such a brilliant start, you can surely forgive the players for slacking off a little?

Not Orient though. Their reaction to slump? They’ve banned players from playing FIFA 14 on the Playstation 3 in the club’s new team bus.

In a bid to improve his players’ concentration levels, boss Russell Slade has moved quickly to ban the game being played on match days, citing the following reason: “several hours playing football on a video game is not conducive to a good performance in the real thing.”

Orient’s communications manager Johnny Davies told British newspaper The Independent:

“The coach boasts a fold-out massage table, a coffee machine and Sky TV, but the most exciting thing for the players was a PlayStation 3.

“For the majority of the trip the lads, led by Lloyd James, got stuck into the new FIFA 14 game and at times even played as themselves against Oldham in preparation for the match the following day.”

And if the whole scenario wasn’t silly enough, as Leyton Orient’s main sponsor, FIFA 14’s logo adorns the team’s kits.

LOL. 33. He walking. How could a striker have 33 pace.

Everyone except Scotland and Edwards fell in overall ratings. And Daniel fell off the game all together.

Surprised Cato fell in ratings.

The others aren't on 14 either.

This might be the only way we might make it to a next world cup and I want to qualify T&T (  :rotfl: ). Anybody knows if T&T in FIFA20?

Check these stats, but its not from a official website.

FIFA only tend to include nations in FIFA tournaments, and haven't seemed to care about the Gold Cup, so unless they do another "road to world cup" type game that might include us, it's unlikely.

On the other hand, Football Manager has had them for decades  ;)

I don’t think so FIFA has crappy countries and teams in the game that do not make tournaments I think you’re better off getting winning 11

Ibrahimovic slams EA Sports for using his name, picture in FIFA 21
Adriana Garcia
ESPN

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has hit out at EA Sports and said his name and image rights are being used in FIFA 21 without his consent.

The AC Milan forward said he does not have an agreement with the company nor has he received any income from it over the use of his image in the virtual football game.

The former Sweden international also tweeted FIFPro, the international players' union, asking if they were responsible for the game using his details.

"Who gave FIFA EA Sport permission to use my name and face?@FIFPro? I'm not aware to be a member of Fifpro and if I am, I was put there without any real knowledge through some weird manouver. And for sure I never allowed @FIFAcom or Fifpro to make money using me," he tweeted.

In a second tweet, Ibrahimovic said someone is making money by using his name and image "without any agreement all these years" and that it was "time to investigate."

FIFA 21 was launched worldwide on Oct. 9.

FIFA 21 makers EA Sports responded on Monday with this statement: "EA SPORTS FIFA is the world's leading football video game, and to create an authentic experience, year after year we work with numerous leagues, teams and individual talents to ensure the similarity rights of the players we include. One of these is a long-standing relationship with the global representative of professional footballers, FIFPro, who works with a number of licensees to negotiate deals for the benefit of players and their unions."

In August, EA Sports signed an exclusive multi-year partnership with AC Milan to become premium partners and "deliver innovative, world-class entertainment for their global audiences."

Gareth Bale, who joined Tottenham on loan from Real Madrid in September, retweeted Ibrahimovic and followed it up with another tweet looking for an investigation.

".@Ibra_officialInteresting... what is@FIFPro?#TimeToInvestigate," he tweeted.

The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.

EA bans a FIFA player for life after racist abuse of ex-footballer Ian Wright
By Kris Holt·Contributing Writer

EA has banned a FIFA player for life after he sent racist messages to a former soccer player. Patrick O'Brien lost an Ultimate Team game with a virtual version of Ian Wright, which led to the teenager sending 20 abusive messages to Wright over Instagram last May.

O'Brien was charged over the incident. While he pled guilty, a judge spared the Irish 18-year-old from a criminal conviction last month. The judge acknowledged O'Brien showed legitimate remorse — he apologized to Wright and made a donation to the Irish Network Against Racism. Although Wright forgave O'Brien, he expressed disappointment in the outcome.

“Seeing this judgment, I can only wonder what deterrent there is for anyone else who spouts this kind of vile racist abuse," Wright, a retired player who won the Premier League with Arsenal, wrote on Twitter. “An individual wished death upon me because of my skin color. No judge’s claims of ‘naivety’ or ‘immaturity’ will ever be acceptable to us."

Although O'Brien won't spend time in prison over his messages, he's dealing with the consequences of his actions elsewhere after his permanent ban from FIFA games.

“We hugely value [Wright's] partnership and support, and we also want him to know he has our support," EA's FIFA brand vice president, David Jackson, told Eurogamer. "This behaviour by the player was unacceptable on every level, and we will not tolerate it. Our Positive Play Charter guides our actions in a situation like this, and we’ve taken the action to ban the player permanently from playing or accessing our games. Racism must stop. We are committed to continuing our work in positive play, through actions that will make our communities fun, fair, and safe for everyone.”

In his podcast, Wright praised EA for sending a message that "whether it's race, religion, sex, whatever, no discrimination will be tolerated."

Several UK-based soccer players have endured abuse and racism over Instagram. The service said last month that it will take "tougher action" over harassment in direct messages.
