Parreira to return as South Africa soccer coach

Carlos Alberto Parreira has been appointed coach of South Africa’s national soccer team, returning to the job he left a year ago.

South African football association spokesman Morio Sanyane told The Associated Press on Friday that the former Brazil coach has agreed to a second stint with the team.

Will Benni save SA?

South Africa's Football Association have re-appointed Brazilian World Cup winning coach Carlos Alberto Parreira as their new national coach to replace his unloved compatriot Joel Santana.

The first job for Parreira in his second spell in charge must be a phone call to Benni McCarthy.

Though their record together wasn't earth-shattering, Parreira did understand that McCarthy was crucial for South African hopes.

Mixed reception for Parreira

There has been a mixed reaction to South Africa's decision to reappoint Carlos Alberto Parreira as national coach.

Bafana Bafana captain Aaron Mokoena has welcomed the move.

But the man who led them to glory in the Africa Cup of Nations in 1996 says he is disappointed.
