Vb,
I think so, he was a complete Indian. I believe he was from St. james and muslim. I also read somewhere that his sister was a pretty good Indian classical singer.

Deeks, I'll have to give Asgaralli to you.
I just checked with my father over the net and he said the same thing.
However, if Asgaralli isn't an Indian name, I reserve the right to change the answer :-)

So good for you Deeks.
I was going with Aniel Rajah who scored 140 something vs. the Windwards in 1984.

Just like Deeks, Nyron Asgarali was de person I was going to name. His mother, Gauri Sankar, was a Brahmin Hindu, and his father, Emmanuel Asgarali, was a Muslim.

He made 103 in the second innings of a match against Guyana in de Oval in February, 1952. His son, Gregory Asgarali, also represented T&T.

Now there's a Chiki Sampath (from Tunapuna) who scored 123 against Barbados in Kensington Oval in January 1949. I eh sure if he is Indian, but given that Roland Sampath is Indian, Chiki might be de one. Maybe somebody could confirm his ethnicity.

Yes Asgarali is Indian.

A lot of the Indians usually say Asgar Ali.

And Sampath is Indian. So it looks like the answer is Chiki Sampath.

Well done Tallest.

Well we must remember that some of the indentures were indeed muslim, so it is not difficult to figure out that he was Muslim by that name. But as we know in TT names don't necessarily tell what race or religion of a person . You can have a catholic priest named Asgarali or an Anglican priest named Abdullah.

The hundred Rajah score vs. Australia was just after he scored the century against the Windwards.
Although I am reasonably young, I found it strange that no Indian seemed to make a big impact at FC level for TT in terms of batting. There was Rajah, Moosai and David Mohamed in the 80s along with Capil Rampersard.
Of course the 90s produced a lot more.

I was always curious why for a long time the best Indian batsmen tended to come from Guyana. This trend has definitely changed in the last 15 years. But that took a helluva time.
