Kelvin Jack set to sign for Southend United

Kelvin Jack set to sign for Southend United
By Chris Phillips (Essex Echo)

KELVIN Jack is set to sign for Southend United on a non-contract basis and be the club’s second choice goalkeeper for this Saturday’s clash with Tranmere Rovers.

Blues are currently without their usual reserve shot-stopper Ian Joyce who is on a seven-day trial with an American side.

And that means Jack, who has won 33 international caps for Trinidad and Tobago, will be named on the bench.

Jack left Gillingham in 2008 and has spent most of this training season with the Shrimpers to keep fit.
The Conquering Lion of Judah shall break every chain.

Well I say Rougier is a boss pulling Kelvin Jack in. Then I see 2nd GK and was like what the hell. It would have been better if Tallman had just put Southend.

Might as well mention:

1. Good interview by a passionate patriotic Rougier. Hats off.  :salute:
2. Also good luck to Kelvin Jack, the forgotten hero of WorldCup qualification and a principled Warrior. Superb reflexes. That save in Bahrain deflecting of Cox's head and sending him the wrong way was just un friggin' believable and I'll never forget it.

Jack joins Shrimpers
Keeper set to see out the season with Southend

Former Trinidad and Tobago international goalkeeper Kelvin Jack has joined Southend on a non-contract basis.

The 33-year-old has been without a club since breaking his leg during a loan spell with Barnsley and has been training with the Shrimpers since the start of the season.

Jack, who has 33 international caps, will provide cover for Steve Mildenhall as Ian Joyce is set to leave Roots Hall next week.

The former Reading, Dundee United and Gillingham keeper will be with Southend until the end of the season and is included in the squad to face MK Dons on Saturday.

Kelvin Jack delighted to earn Southend United deal

Kelvin Jack delighted to earn Southend United deal
BBC Sport

Southend's new goalkeeper Kelvin Jack says he is delighted to have earned a contract with the League One side.

The former Trinidad & Tobago international joined the club until the end of the season earlier this month.

Jack, 33, is back to full fitness after breaking his leg on trial at Barnsley two years ago.

He told BBC Essex: "You never know what could happen, obviously Steve (Mildenhall) is playing well, but I'm there to push him as best as I can."

Jack, who played for Trinidad & Tobago at the 2006 World Cup finals, has had spells with Dundee and Gillingham in the past.

He added: "I want to get back to the level I was at before (the injury). I think that's very obtainable.

"It took me about 15 months to be able to start training properly, then it's getting back your rhythm, your time and your confidence. I think that's the biggest thing.

"Fortunately I've been able to come here and do that."

Kelvin Jack first out at Southend United
By Chris Phillips (Essex Echo)

KELVIN Jack has become the first player to leave Southend United this summer.

The goalkeeper joined Blues on a non-contract basis towards the end of the season as cover for first choice shot-stopper Steve Mildenhall.

But he suffered a hamstring injury during his short stay and has now been released. Blues boss Steve Tilson will soon hold talks with Franck Moussa, Damian Scannell and Osei Sankofa, who are also out of contract.

Wow! It might time to retire and proceed in coaching, if he desires or something else. Too many injuries and age is a factor now............

I think some people don't know when it's time to call it quits,GK's have a shorter lifespan in the game than the average player, where as a player might be able to last on name alone a GK can't.
Kelvin has always been a person involved in T&T football politics and should be a good representative for Footballers at home and abroad,a fighter of the ills that plaguing the game in the country, represent the players, make the Players Association have some life,he is outspoken and not afraid to confront authority.
His days are over, there is no one to discredit what he has achieved,he has knowledge of the legal ins and out having had personal experiences from past/present issues.

I think, historically, injury free (edit:i.e. those that not just blight), Goalies have a longest life span in the game, than the average player, especially those from an International level..

Think the main thing about Goalies is that it takes a long time to learn positioning and control of the box. This is mainly due to lack of first team games before age 25. A reserve keeper can often sit on the bench for 6 months or longer without making an appearance. But as the keeper matures, his positional sense improves and there is less need for agility and reaction (though of course, the top keepers retain these skills). David James is 40 and will play in the WC for England. Kelvin's got two more World Cups in him yet lol  But he really needs a good injury free run in a first team. He ain't finished yet!!

Sorry to hear this about the Big Man.

Travelled back from the UK with him on the same flight and he gave me a autograph and a very candid, brief off the record interview about his situation.

Guys like him and Sancho...True Warriors.
