U-17 Women ready for opening Caribbean qualifier against USVI.
TTFA Media.

Trinidad and Tobago’s Under 17 Women’s Team will commence their World Cup qualifying quest towards the 2018 FIFA Under 17 Women’s World Cup in Uruguay with a Caribbean Zone preliminary phase clash against US Virgin Islands from 7:30 pm at the Ato Boldon Stadium on Wednesday.

The game will follow the opening clash of a double header with Curacao facing Grenada from 5pm. Matches continue on Friday and Sunday with only the Group winner advancing to the Caribbean Final round in Haiti.

Head coach Jamaal Shabazz has been overseeing the team’s preparations for just under a month and says he expects the team to overcome their hurdles this week.

“I think we have prepared well. It’s a different ball game all together having to switch fro training senior men to now preparing Under 17 Women. It’s a new language and new type of decorum. The under 17 girls is a different kettle of fish. I have learned a lot in this three weeks and some of us has been very enjoyable.

“But overall I think the players have demonstrated a good level of understand for the game which is an encouraging sign and they have a high level of enthusiasm to work hard and achieve success. They are very passionate and I am very impressed with their effort and determination and also their spirit,” Shabazz told TTFA Media.

“They have put behind them the season that they had when they went to CONCACAF for the first time at Under 15 level and were slaughtered and now they are very focused on the future and this upcoming tournament.

“We will enter the competition confident as hosts but very careful about how we approach the games because there has been progress in each of these three countries in women football and everyone wants to move on and get to the final round in Haiti. It is important that we take each game by its own and put points on the table so at the end we can come out on top of the group and advance to the next phase,” Shabazz added.

“This team did not come out of a development programme when the new regime came into the TTFA they inherited a CONCACAF tournament which they played in. The teams we had before developed at under 12. So this is new to these girls and it will not be a stroll in the park for us at this level. It will be a huge challenge,” he said.

Tickets are priced at $20 (Adults) and $10 for kids and will be available at the venue on each matchday.

The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.

Do you think that the boat situation is the reason that the Tobago Girls selected NEVER made it to a single training session ??

Or was it because the TTFA never contacted the players, their parents or coaches to invite them to training ??

Then after the first WOLF game the goalkeeper coach make noise to get the goalkeeper.....by this time she is not registered with them so cannot play with them in the WOLF League. So she goes down to Trinidad to train....but cannot play.

U-17 Women start W/Cup quest vs US Virgin Islands.
TTFA Media.

This country’s Women’s Under 17 Team will be hoping to make a winning start to their qualifying quest for the 2018 FIFA Under 17 Women’s World Cup in Uruguay when they take on US Virgin Island in their opening Caribbean qualifier at the Ato Boldon Stadium from 7:30pm on Wednesday.

The game will be the second match of a double header with Grenada meeting Curacao from 5pm. After three days of matches, only the top team will advance to the Caribbean Finals in Haiti.

T&T, under head coach Jamaal Shabazz have been in training for the better part of this year with the former T&T Senior Men’s team assistant coach having just taken over the team last month. He has had some solid sessions with the contingent and is quietly optimistic going into the first match.

“We have prepared well with a few solid sessions and I think the players are all eager and ready for their first qualifying match. They have the experience of playing in a CONCACAF Championship in the past at the Under 15 level but this now is a different environment with a different cause. This is actually World Cup qualifying so they are aware of the importance and the meaning of these matches,” Shabazz told TTFA Media.

“Looking at our opponents, we see that former national player Izler Browne is the coach of US Virgin Islands and I expect they will come here with some kind of preparation and will be no pushovers and we have seen progress in women’s football made both in Grenada and Curacao. Neither of these teams will be run arounds and they will come here intent on causing an upset on the host team. But at the same time we believe in our ability and I expect our players will take each game on its merit and will put out the effort that is required to get us past this first hurdle,” Shabazz added.

The team comprises a few US-based College players including midfielder Sarah De Gannes who is based in Alberta, USA, Kara Trotman, the niece of former national player, deceased Mickey Trotman, who plays for Seattle Reign in Seattle and Annika Daniel of FC Bellevue in Kenmore. Some of the home-based players include 12-year-old midfielder Kayla Baboolal of Biche FC in Biche, Aaliyah Prince of Success Laventille, defender Moines Mejias of Trinity Nationals and goalkeeper Chelsea Ramnauth of Fyzabad Secondary.

Apart from Haiti, which received a bye as hosts of the final round, the remaining 18 countries entered the first round, and were drawn into three groups of four teams and two groups of three teams. The winners of each group advance to the final round to join Haiti, where they are divided into two groups of three teams, with the top three teams qualifying for the final tournament as the CFU representatives.

Trinidad and Tobago, Puerto Rico, Saint Lucia, Guyana, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines were automatically seeded in Groups A–E respectively as hosts of each first round group, while the remaining 14 teams were seeded based on the results of the previous two editions of the qualifying competition. Three teams from the Caribbean advance to the CONCACAF Final round next year towards the 2018 FIFA Under 17 Women’s World Cup in Uruguay.

Tickets cost $20 (adults) and $10 (children) and will be available at the venue on each matchday.

The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.

 :o

That was what you would call a semi opposed training exercise. Token resistance.
I am even wondering how come we didn't score more....
How much prep did VI have? Seemed to be a team slapped together from scratch in a few days.
No. 16 for Virgin Islands was playing as a sweeper keeper? I felt sorry for them.

That said, I like our little no.11 and one or two moments and decisions.
Not much else to be gleaned from the highlights more than some entertainment.

Exactly! We always get excited against these poor unprepared teams then get our behinds kicked by decent opposition. Case in point: Our Under 15 get beaten by Jamaica 8-1 and allows 23 goals in 3 matches against CONCACAF opposition. Nuff said!
Never, never, ever give up! Go T&T Warriors!

Trinidad and Tobago, Grenada battle today in decisive Women’s Under-17 clash
By Joel Bailey (T&T Newsday)

HOSTS TRINIDAD and Tobago and Grenada will square off from 7.30 pm today, at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva, on the final day of the FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers Caribbean Zone Preliminary Round Group B.

Both teams have won their respective two matches, including their contests on Friday – TT brushed aside Curacao 7-0 while Grenada hammered the United States Virgin Islands 9-0.

The group winners will progress to the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Final Round, which will feature hosts Haiti and four other qualifiers. From that stage, three teams will advance to the 2018 CONCACAF Championships, which will serve as the qualifying tournament for the 2018 FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup in Uruguay.

In the TT-Curacao clash, striker Aaliyah Prince scored twice, in the sixth and 11th minutes, after Tianna Daniel opened the scoring in the fourth minute. Chrissy Mitchell netted TT’s fourth in the 19th minute, followed by items from Afiyah Cornwall (20th), Kayla Baboolal (26th) and Maria- Frances Serrant (55th).

Earlier on the day, Melania Fullerton had a dominant performance, netting five times (15th, 28th, 52nd, 68th and 82nd) while Sheranda Charles got a hat-trick (12th, 18th and 70th).

Captain Judy McIntosh also got her name on the scoresheet, in the 79th.

On Wednesday, TT trounced the US Virgin Islands 13-0 while Grenada strolled past Curacao 6-2.

Following Friday’s game, TT coach Jamaal Shabazz reflected, “Amazing first half by the team, and the way they exploited the space behind the Curacao defence.

I was impressed with that.

I think we took the pedal of the bike in the second half but, all and all, I’m very pleased with the result and the performance.” Asked if the players took things easy on Friday, instead of piling in the goals as they did against the US Virgin Islands, Shabazz replied, “The Curacao team is not a bad team. It’s a well-organised team (with) good talent.

They played a high defence and we were able to exploit that.

“It was always going to be a different game from the first night,” he continued. “Our job is not to just rain goals. Our job is to get the result. In doing that, if we score some extra goals, we’re happy. But in no way are we going out there thinking that each game we’re going to give certain goals.

“The landscape in women’s football in the Caribbean have changed. Who would have thought that Grenada would now be a force to be reckoned with in CFU women’s football? And they are. And we respect that.” And, about today’s encounter, Shabazz said, “It’s going to be an interesting one. The Grenada team (have) played at the CONCACAF level and we have tremendous respect for the work put in (by) them. But we, being at home, are confident and we think we’re up to the task.”

I'm hearing the girls drew 2-2 with Grenada to advance.

They came from behind to take a 2-1 lead in the 89th minute but conceded an even later equalizer.

Trinidad and Tobago U-17 Women advance to Caribbean Final Round
TTFA Media

Trinidad and Tobago’s Under 17 Women’s Team rallied from a goal down to score two second half goals and secure a 2-2 draw with Grenada and subsequently top the four-nation group following the last set of matches in the Concacaf Caribbean opening round of Under 17 Women’s World Cup qualifying at Ato Boldon Stadium on Sunday.

T&T faced their stiffest test of the round after easily displacing US Virgin Islands (13-0) and Curacao 7-0 in their previous matches.

Trailing Grenada 1-0 at half-time, on the back of a Sheranda Charles’ 45th-minute item,  T&T came out in the second half determined to reverse the scoreline.

US-based captain Kara Trotman held bundle the ball over the goal line in the 75th and   and Marie-Frances Serrant put T&T 2-1 ahead in the 87th before Grenadian captain Judy McIntosh (902) equalised from the penalty spot.

T&T will now look ahead to the Caribbean Final Round in Haiti from October 22nd where they will face off against Jamaica, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Bermuda and Haiti. The top three teams will advance to the Concacaf Final round toward the 2018 FIFA Under 17 Women’s World Cup in Uruguay.

U-17 Women footballers set for Central American tour.
By Joel Bailey (Newsday).

The Trinidad and Tobago women’s football team are set to embark on a four-game tour of Central America next month.

This tour will be part of the team’s preparation for the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Women’s Under-17 Final Round Qualifiers, which will take place from October 16-22 in Haiti.

Trinidad and Tobago, Bermuda and Jamaica will play in Group F while hosts Haiti, Puerto Rico and Cuba will compete in Group G.

After their round-robin matches, the group winners will automatically advance to the 2018 CONCACAF Women’s Under-17 Championship in Nicaragua.

Also progressing to the CONCACAF stage will be the winner of the third-place match (comprising the second-placed teams in each group).

TT coach Jamaal Shabazz, in a telephone interview yesterday, noted, “We intend to play friendly matches against Panama on the 4th and 6th of October, and against Nicaragua on the 7th and 9th of October, in Panama and in Nicaragua (respectively).”

In the First Round, which took place in August, hosts Trinidad and Tobago won Group A, ahead of Grenada, Curacao and the United States Virgin Islands.

Since earning a spot in the CFU Final Round, Shabazz said: “We’ve been training five days a week (at) various venues across the country.

“The girls have responded and shown good commitment,” said the team coach.

Asked if the pool of players for the training sessions have remained the same, Shabazz replied, “We’ve invited players who didn’t make the final 20. (Assistant) coach Marlon Charles and myself made a trip to Tobago and we’ve included some players from Tobago.

“We’re having a camp this weekend in Maracas, St Joseph and we’re having a game on Monday against the senior and Under-20 women (combined).”

With regards to the foreign-based players in the TT team, Shabazz said, “This week, (at least) two foreign players should be here in Trinidad. The others would join the team in Panama.”

The TT team for Panama and Nicaragua will be announced this weekend and the squad will leave for Central America next week.”

And Shabazz, the former TT and Guyana men’s teams coach, has thanked the Trinidad and Tobago Football Association (TTFA) for their support towards the women’s Under-17 squad.

“We’ve gotten the support from the (TTFA),” said Shabazz. “We’ve had two weekend camps and we’ve been fully supported. The team could only develop as far as the capacity of the players. All this is part of the development of the team.

“This is one of the few women’s teams that did not come out of a development programmes. It’s difficult but it’s a work in progress.

The parents have been very corporative, and the players and staff have shown tremendous commitment. And the TTFA has helped every step of the way,” he ended.

The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.

U 17 Girls credit their win to Warriors’ victory.
T&T Guardian Reports.

T&T U17 Girls ended their Central American tour with a come from behind 3-2 win over Concacaf U17 girls tournament host Nicaragua. T&T came from behind twice with a double from USA based striker Cayla McFarlane and the eventual winner from Afiyah Cornwall. In the first of the two match series, T& T drew 1-1 with Nicaragua with a goal from Cayla McFarlane. Head Coach Jamaal Shabazz praised the efforts of the players on the trip but was not totally satisfied.

“ The Girls showed grit and determination but we have not yet developed a team that has the confidence to put the ball down against a tough opponent.” He concluded, “ These two matches have certainly answered some questions for us going into the tournament and we would have to improve drastically in ball possession.”

National captain Kara Trotman credited T&T’s mens senior team win over USA as an impetus for their hard fought victory over Nicaragua.

“ The Coach had us watch the T&T / USA match on tv at the hotel and we made a lot of noise for the team.

“ When we saw how those guys played their hearts out it made us think that we need to start digging deeper when it comes to getting a result.

“T&T beating USA was a huge inspiration for us . Coach Shabazz told us what we felt inside when T&T won is what our people home and abroad when we win, added Trotman. T& T were enroute yesterday to Haiti via Panama for the Concacaf CFU Under 17 Girls Finals where they are grouped with Bermuda and Jamaica. The Tournament runs from 16-23 October 2017.

The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.

PORT-AU-PRINCE—T&T was sent packing from the Caribbean Football Union Under-17 Girls Championship after a 3-1 loss to Jamaica in a must win final Group F match at the Stade Sylvio Cator, Port-au-Prince on Friday night.

Coming off a 2-2 draw with Bermuda in their opener on Monday, the T&T girls needed a win to at least reach the third place play-off for a chance to advance to the Concacaf Under-17 Women’s Championship.

However, the young ‘Reggae Girls’ also needed to a win after falling to Bermuda 2-3 on Wednesday and led by two goals from Olufolasade Adamolekun, they came from behind to beat T&T.

T&T went ahead in the sixth minute through Aaliyah Prince, but Jamaica drew level on the half-hour courtesy captain Monique Perrier. Adamolekun fired the Jamaicans ahead in the 69th and five minutes from full-time she added another to seal victory and second spot in the three-team pool with three points, one behind group winners Bermuda while T&T ended with one point.

In Group G, host Haiti blanked Cuba 3-0 to end with a maximum six points after a similar margin of victory over Puerto Rico, which ended second with a 4-0 trashing of the Cubans.

Today, Bermuda and defending champions Haiti will meet in the CFU final with both teams already qualified for the Concacaf Championship while Jamaica and Puerto Rico clash for third spot, with the winners earning the third and final CFU spot.

The Trinidad and Tobago Women’s National Under-17 Team was dumped from the Uruguay 2018 World Cup qualifying series without even facing CONCACAF opposition. The junior Women Soca Warriors were eliminated after a 3-1 loss to Jamaica today at the Stade Sylvio Cator in Haiti.

The result meant Trinidad and Tobago finished bottom of the Caribbean group, behind Bermuda and Jamaica. The Jamaal Shabazz-coached team failed to win any of their last three matches with two draws against Grenada and Bermuda preceding tonight’s loss.

Trinidad and Tobago attempted to play off the counter attack and got a dream start as star forward Aaliyah Prince put the junior Women Soca Warriors ahead after four minutes.

But, according to the TTFA Media, Jamaica were easily the superior team and pinned Trinidad and Tobago back in their half. The “Reggae Girlz” hit the post on two occasions before striker Monique Perrier equalised, after a blunder by Trinidad and Tobago goalkeeper Makeda Herbert.

Tied at one-goal apiece at the interval, Jamaica eased away in the second half courtesy of a Olufolasade Adamolekun double to seal a play off spot against Puerto Rico.

“I am disappointed that we are not able to continue our World Cup journey but it was definitely a game where we played with heart and determination,” Trinidad and Tobago midfielder Kara Trotman told the TTFA Media, “and it hurts that our efforts weren’t reflected in the final score.

“We have learnt a lot from this tournament and hope the program continues so we can really benefit from this experience.”

It was a bleak return for the women’s programme, which seemed to be set for take-off in January when the Trinidad and Tobago Football Association (TTFA) hired vaunted Italian coach Carolina Morace and a foreign contingent that included assistants Nicola Williams, Elisabetta Bavagnoli and Manuela Tesse. The overall package of the women’s coaches was rumoured to be US$24,000 per month.

Tesse, the Under-17 head coach, quit the programme in May while Bavagnoli was also quickly conspicuous by her absence.

Morace and Williams finally downed tools in July after the alleged non-payment of salaries by the David John-Williams-led football body.

“The right terminology is,” Morace told Wired868, “the contract [is] terminated for just cause.”

Still, the National Under-17 Team had been together since March and participated as a squad in the local WOLF competition.

But, even with two North America-based players—midfielders Sarah De Gannes and Trotman—in their line-up, Trinidad and Tobago could not even get to the semi-final round of the Caribbean stage.

After their 2-2 draw with Bermuda on Monday, Shabazz suggested that his team was not good enough.

“It is clear that we are a step or two behind the teams in this tournament,” Shabazz told TTFA Media. “It is our ability to stay organised and [our] grit and determination that is keeping us in the game. Where their legs ran out in this match, they applied their hearts and we were able to get a point.”

Trinidad and Tobago have now failed to qualify for two successive CONCACAF Women’s Under-17 Championships under the David John-Williams-led TTFA—despite being Caribbean champions in 2013. The two-island republic were also eliminated at the Caribbean stage of the Men’s Under-17 competition in 2017, despite being the host nation and having previously qualified in 2015.

Trinidad will host the 2018 CONCACAF Women’s Under-20 Championship from 18 to 20 January.

We eh play no opposition of consequence yet. Tempered celebration.

And the celebrations are over... :(

I'm not surprised though...I saw this coming from miles away. It's unfortunate for the young ladies though. They played their hearts out under a federation that doomed them to failure from the start.
