Fatima gets nearer title.
By Kwame Williams & Jovan Ravello.
Fatima edged closer yesterday to clinching the North Zone crown on goals from Yohance Williams and Kieran Marin, when it beat hosts QRC 2-1 in a rough and tumble affair on QRC Grounds, St Clair.
With only one of the three appointed officials, a linesman, showing up for duty and two representatives from QRC having to "run the lines," the game was reportedly marred by bad officiating and, at times, malicious tackling from the host team.
This eventually resulted in one of the QRC players being shown a red card for cutting down Fatima striker Makesi Lewis in the dying moments of the game.
Fatima, who beat Malick 2-1 on Monday,a match which was rescheduled due to the death of Malick player Rudolph Charles, took the lead in the first half through Williams and held on to the advantage to the interval.
QRC got an equaliser midway through the second half, but Marin snatched victory for the boys from Mucurapo about ten minutes from the end.
Five for St Louis.
Stephan St Louis scored five times for the St Anthony's Tigers, as they handed lowly Tranquillity a humiliating 11-0 loss in Westmoorings, while Malick got its fourth win of the season at the Hasely Crawford Stadium. Malick beat St Mary's 4-1.
"Naps" pips "Fyzo" 1-0.
In the South Zone, Naparima College maintained its unbeaten streak with a 1-0 win over Fyzabad Compo-site, while St Benedict's College kept close with a 2-1 win against the "Green Hornets" of Princes Town Senior Secondary.
And while Moruga and sixth placed Mayaro Composite played to a 2-2 draw, Moruga remain at the bottom of the table with four points.
San Juan near finish line.
Captain Elijah Manners notched a hat-trick, while Anthony Guppy and Rodell Elcock added one apiece as San Juan swept past the "Dial Dynamos" Arima 5-1 at Bourg Mulatresse. San Juan now hold a seven-point lead over the "Blue Thunder" El Dorado with three matches remaining.
Jamal Gay and captain Keston Henry were on target as hosts "El Do" defeated Malabar 2-1 while dethroned champions, the "Green Machine" St Augustine got a 3-0 default win over St George's.
"Pres" roughs up Chaguanas.
Central Zone leaders Carapichaima and Presentation College were both comfortable winners yesterday, with Presentation scoring at will in an 8-0 roll-over of Chaguanas and Carapichaima beating Marabella Junior Secondary 3-0.
Keron Smith put in a double, while Dwayne Spencer added another for Carapichaima, while Tabaquite's Keron Woodruffe scored his team's goal in their 1-0 win over Union Claxton Bay.
Carapichaima and Presentation have almost identical win-draw records, 6-1, and are both unbeaten with 19 points, but Presentation's superior goal difference has them atop the table.
