Trinidad and Tobago’s national sprint cycling team defied the odds in winning the bronze medal in their ride-off against Canada in the finals of the Pan American Cycling Championships currently underway in Aguascalientes, Mexico Tuesday night.

The T&T team comprising Azikiwe Kellar, Njisane Phillip and Christopher Sellier turned the tables on a powerful Canadian team fresh from the World Cycling Championships where they placed a creditable 10th in the team sprint.

In the preliminaries, Canada placed third with a time of 45:48 secs with T&T fourth in 45:53 secs. However, in the ride-off for third and fourth spots, T&T won the bronze with an astonishing time of 44:09 secs as opposed to Canada’s 45;40 secs.

Team T&T dug very deep in the final ride and not only did they beat the Canadians’ time but also surpassed the times of the gold and silver medallists, Colombia and Venezuela who recorded times of  44:12 secs and 44:24 secs respectively.
