Men’s basketball team in training.
By: Kevin Sunich (T&T Guardian).

June, 16 - 2010 - A number of local men basketball players have reportedly gone into camp at the Mayaro Indoor Facility for national training in preparation for the upcoming 2010 Centrobasket Championship set for the Dominican Republic from July 5-10.

While the men have started to do something, there has been now word on the Women’s squad which will be competing In Puerto Rico. However, it is being asked under whose guidance are the players working, since the National Basketball Federation of T&T (NBFT&T) has not yet confirmed the coaching staff.

The coaches to lead the T&T men and women at the Championships were expected to be confirmed at a meeting of the Board of Directors of the NBFT&T, yesterday, however General Secretary Kelvin Roberts said it is now scheduled for today. Roberts said the Organisation and Development Committee which is headed by vice-president Earl Noel had not finished its report for the selection of the coaches to be placed before the board

History will be made this summer when T & T men and women take to the hard-courts for international tournaments.

At the Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) AGM held in the British Virgin Islands, it was announced that the number of teams competing at the 2010 Centrobasket Men’s Championships would be increased from eight to ten.

This was welcomed news for the president of the National Basketball Federation of Trinidad & Tobago, Mr. Brian Manning who was in attendance at the meeting.

Trinidad & Tobago was one of the two national teams added to the competition. Qualification was based on their fourth-place finish at the 2009 CBC Championships held in Tortola, BVI. The other national team was Belize from the CONCOBA region.

It is almost 20 years since a Trinidad & Tobago men’s basketball team participated at the Centrobasket Championships. And this year both the men’s and women’s teams will play at the championships.

In the absence of the pre-qualifying 2009 Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) Women's Championship, the top eight teams in the 2008 tournament were selected to compete in 2010. Trinidad & Tobago’s women’s team gained an automatic spot having secured a fifth-place finish in 2008.
The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.
