A wasted opportunity

THE International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Federation of International Cricketers' Association (FICA) have jointly sent an unequivocal proposition to the two organisations responsible for the most critical aspects of West Indies cricket.

Concerned by the rancorous, interminable bickering between the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) and the West Indies Players Association (WIPA) that is largely responsible for the disintegration of what was the game's most admired entity, the ICC and FICA offered their good offices to help settle the current disagreement over image and intellectual property rights.

As a once revered cricket commentator, Tony Cozier now continues to write these biased, half-truth articles that simply undermines and erodes his credibility. WIPA is correct in refusing to waste the time of the FICA/ICC arbitration if it is not binding. Why doesn't the WICB abide by its own previously signed agreement to accept arbitration with the WIPA referred to their accord with the WICB, "brokered by Caricom and signed in New York late last year by their president and chief executive Dinanath Ramnarine and WICB president Julian Hunte." If WICB refuses to accept agreements it has signed to, why should WIPA agree to another proposal for arbitration? The board seems committed to honoring an agreement only when it finally agrees with the finding - and it has lost every one so far.  The entire WICB should resign.  They have accomplished nothing and seem not to understand anything about modern professional sports.
