Wednesday, November 10th 2010 – Antigua Recreation Grounds, Antigua: Cuba opened Group G of the Digicel with a strong statement of intent by easily dismissing the challenge of Dominica in front of a modest opening crowd in this early afternoon kick off in Antigua.
Cuba started brightly and were ahead after only 8 minutes when the versatile dynamo Alain Ofarril slipped in Armando Isidoro whose shot from the right hand side slipped past Oscar and planted itself into the left side of the net.
With Cuba keeping the ball and dominating midfield Dominica had yet to come out of their half of the field and it looked only a matter of time until Cuba added to their tally. But against the run of play and to shock the rising crowd in the famous ARG, Dominica equalized in their first attack on 15 minutes. After Molina had cleared from under his cross bar when under pressure from Langlais, the resultant corner floated in by Christopher allowed Benjamin to rise unchallenged and shock the Cubans by drawing the sides level.
Not to be outdone by the aerial battle it was a corner that restored the lead for Cuba when Ofarril again was the provider with a lovely delivery from a right hand side corner for Cervantes to power a back post header home from 4 yards.
Cuba were determined not to allow another opportunity for Dominica to get back into this contest and on 27 minutes made it 3-1 with a fantastic individual goal by Valencia. Collecting the ball on the left hand side, he cut inside and from 18 yards whipped his shot inside the post reminiscent of Fernando Torres gem against Chelsea at the weekend in the English Premier League.
The Cubans made it 4-1 eight minutes later when Campanioni slotted the ball under the advancing Oscar after a lovely through ball from Serrano left centre backs Bernard and Austrie flat footed and rooted to the ground at the back.
Dominica started the second half a lot more defensively minded and seemed set not to concede any more goals. With so little possession being held by Dominica it seemed all they may hope for was to keep the score down. With all three subs being made very early in the second half, the tactics were clearly to defend at all costs and to ensure the score
With Isidoro and Valencia hitting the woodwork Cuba could not manage a way around the Dominican goalkeeper to the dismay of the growing crowd in the ARG who were anxious for goals.
On 80 minutes the tactics nearly came off when Wayne George was through and forced Cuban keeper Guivert to rely on his luck as the ball ricocheted off his legs and fortunately into his arms when it seemed that Dominica may have drawn another goal back.
With 3 minutes left on the clock Benjamin bagged his and Dominica’s second of the game when he slotted home in what was a carbon copy of Cuba’s first goal. While the Dominicans did little in the way of celebration, it was a matter of pride that while they ended the game losing 4-2 they at least got the better of their opponents in the second 45 minutes from a scoring perspective.
Cuba now look forward to playing Suriname on Friday while Dominica will take on hosts Antigua in the later afternoon kick off

Wednesday, November 10th 2010 – Antigua Recreation Grounds, Antigua: Antigua & Barbuda opened their Digicel Cup account with a hard fought 2-1 win over a strong Suriname side in front of a 4,000 strong crowd in this afternoon kick off of Group G, the final qualification round before the Digicel Cup Finals in Martinique at the end of November.
With both teams starting brightly the surprisingly large crowd for a Wednesday afternoon kick off were treated to a to and fro game of action with both Peter Byers of Antigua and Stefan Baneti for Suriname going close to opening the scoring in the early stages.
Antigua took the honours of opening the scoring on 17 minutes when the ball fell kindly to Randolph Burton who smashed into the open net from 7 yards after Gregory had rounded the keeper laid the ball to Byers, whose initial shot was blocked on the line by Abauna, with the rebound falling perfectly for the waiting Burton.
Suriname were playing nice football and looked a threat when they got on the ball moving forward decisively. On 33 minutes they deservedly drew level when Emanuelson came on to a poorly cleared header on the left and smashed his left footed effort first time from the edge of the box into the far corner of the net.
While the home fans had their cries for a penalty waved away from referee Morrison after Cochrane seemed to be felled inside the area by Felter, they were happier with their sides efforts who looked dangerous through Byers who was causing the Surinamese defence trouble with his big physical presence.
Just before half time Suriname were unlucky not to head into the interval in the lead when rising star and former Digicel Kick Start coaching recipient, Emilio Limon, saw his first time volley from the edge of the box smash down off the crossbar and away to safety.
The second half started brightly again with both sides taking the game to each other. On 54 minutes Antigua had the woodwork again to thank as the score-line somehow remained 1-1. Vlijter ran onto a long through ball which was played over the top of the Antigua defence, and as he reeled away to the corner flag to celebrate his goal-bound lobbed effort over Decastro’s head, he looked back in horror as the ball bounced back off the crossbar and in to the hands of the ever grateful Decastro.
As the old football saying goes, if you don’t take your chances it will be sure to come back to haunt you. And so it was on 63 minutes when Justin Cochrane held his marker off just inside the right side of the box, spun and turned and hooked his shoot over the helpless Huiswood into the far left corner of the net to send the large home crowd in this famous old stadium into raptures as Antigua & Barbuda went back into the lead.
Suriname tried to get back into the game but were contained to some long range shooting by a well versed Antiguan defence.
The home crowd were treated to some nervous moments with some last minute corners for Suriname but their heroes hung on for a hard fought 2-1 win to the delight of the large home crowd.
Antigua and Cuba now sit on top of Group G, joined by their single success, leaving Friday’s games delicately poised for all sides as Group G takes shape.

Cuba mash up Panama 3-0 in Panama City last month. They are definitely one of the teams to watch in the Cup.

Cuba, Antigua should make no difference. At some point we go play the so-called strongest team. If Latas do his job with team and these guys stay focus they should be ready to play and beat anybody at any time. Some ah allyuh acting like nambi-pambees

dominica cannot win the Group but mathematically they can still advance but they requires a 2 goal margin win and
a antigua lost .

a dominica 2-1 over suriname can do the trick too but antigua must lose scoring less than 3 goals .

Neither surinam nor dominica could win the group. the winner of the cuba antigua game will win the group, and if there's a draw then cuba will win the group.

Correct. What I should have said was that all four teams still have a chance to advance.

Suriname  5 Dominica 0 FT.

Suriname needs A&B to beat Cuba to advance. A&B are in because Head to Head is the first tie breaker and they beat Suriname. Cuba needs a win or a tie and they are in. If Cuba and Suriname end on 4 points each then goal difference will decide who advances
