Arima slam Barataria for 13.
By Kern De Freitas (Express).

Arima North Secondary gave themselves a healthy boost in goal average with their 13-0 dismantling of Barataria South Secondary yesterday in East Zone BG T&T/First Citizens Secondary School Football League (SSFL) action.

Goals flew left, right and through Barataria goalkeeper Hakeem Wilson; five in the first half, and eight more in the second period to deflate the team that barely survived the drop last season, having won their playoff to survive another year.

If legends about the number 13 are believed, they should have bad luck for the rest of the season.

It did not help that Barataria played more than a half with ten men after Atiba Cudjoe was sent off in the 39th minute for a second bookable offence, a poorly advised tackle in the penalty box.

By then Barataria were 4-0 down, and the resultant penalty from Kevin Roberts handed the striker his hat-trick, and Arima North a 5-0 half-time lead.

Roberts and Marcus Gomez made their name against the Barataria defence, Gomez's four second half goals bringing his tally to five, while Roberts added one in the second half to complete his beaver-trick.

But it was Darius Rawlins who started the landslide for Arima from close range. Roberts added another two minutes later, and Gomez got in on the act in the 25th minute.

Roberts would convert two more, including the penalty, to sink Barataria's confidence.

If the first period was just embarrassing, the second half certainly raised serious questions about whether Barataria belonged in the League. And with a man advantage, Arima shored up their goal count.

In the 50th, Neveal Hackshaw dribbled his way through the defence to resume the rout with an easy tap-in, and Gomez made it 7-0 with a fast break, getting the next two goals in quick succession in the 62nd and 64th.

Barataria benefited from a few desperate saves and a couple of off-side decisions, but Arima wrapped it up with late goals from Roberts (81st), Rondell Elie (83rd), Gomez (86th) and Kwame Hazel (89th).
The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.

Carapichaima cruise past Tabaquite 10-0
T&T Newsday

SHAQUILLE HOLDER scored a quartet of goals as defending Central Zone title-holders Carapichaima crushed Tabaquite 10-0 on Wednesday to begin their campaign in the 2011 BGTT/First Citizens Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) Championship Division.

Marvin Martin and Christopher Prime contributed two goals each, at the Carapichaima Ground, while Kareem Ryce and Denzil Gill chipped in with one apiece.

Presentation Chaguanas, spurred on by their home fans, spanked Waterloo 5-0, with a treble from Suraj Ramcharan while Kieron Joseph got the other two.

And Couva whipped their guests Gasparillo 3-0 with two goals from Jaffet Williams and one from Jevon Sandiford.

Action in the Tobago Zone also began on Wednesday, with Scarborough easing past Mason Hall 4-1 at the Dwight Yorke Stadium, Bacolet.

Mickeel Gordon scored twice for Scarborough, while Valdez Perez and Dareon Moses got the others, with L’Che Edwards netting Mason Hall’s consolation.

In the East Zone, Arima produced the most lop-sided victory of the season, a 13-0 demolition of Barataria at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Arima, to move to the top of the standings.

Marcus Gomez helped himself to five goals, while Kevin Roberts got a beaver-trick, with one each from Darius Rawlins, Neveal Hackshaw, Rondell Elie and Kwame Hazel.

Defending champs St Augustine notched their first win of the season, trouncing hosts Toco 5-0 courtesy of a pair from Akeem Garcia and one apiece from Jamal Tyson, Shaquille Smith and Jordan Devenish. And San Juan and Trinity East had a goalless stalemate at San Juan.

Reigning North Zone champs St Anthony’s earned their third straight win, by a 2-0 margin away to Trinity at Moka, with Thulani George and Darryl Trim on target, while Mucurapo moved to second spot following a 3-0 victory over Fatima, courtesy items from Alvin Jones, Jabari Thomas and Shaquille Donatie.

St Mary’s moved to third spot with a 5-0 spanking of cellar-placed Malick.

In the South, 2010 winners Naparima got their first win of the season, a 1-0 result over Shiva Boys in the second of back-to-back games at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella — Shaquille Stewart was the goal-getter.

Earlier, Pleasantville and Princes Town battled to a goalless draw while, at La Brea, Presentation San Fernando brushed aside Vessigny 4-0, courtesy of a Shackiel Henry hat-trick and one from Chervon Dimsoy.

PLEASANTVILLE SECONDARY striker Arnim Perreira is under a determined
challenge from Princes Town defender Marvin Tracey (right), during their
BGTT/First Citizens Secondary Schools match in the South zone which ended
0-0 on Wednesday.

In the first match at Bacolet, Mickeel Gordon netted a double (54th, 77th) after Dareon Moses (14th) and Valdez Perez (19th) got one each in Scarborough’s 4-1 whipping of Mason Hall.

L’Che Edwards had given Mason Hall some hope when he netted on the stroke of half-time for a 2-1 deficit.

Down South, Shaquille Stewart blasted in an 86th minute free-kick to earn defending champions, Naparima its first win in three attempts, 1-0 over Shiva Boys’ at Mannie Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella.
