Phillip to join Mitchell at Vancouver.
T&T Guardian Reports.

Soca Warriors goalkeeper Marvin Phillip looks set to join his former bmobile Joe Public team-mate Carlyle Mitchell on the roster at US Major League Soccer club, Vancouver Whitecaps.

Mitchell, a 24-year-old defender agreed to a deal with the Canadian-based club last week while the 27-year-old Phillip will also travel to the MLS newcomers on a trial stint which according to Joe Public managing director Daryll Warner will eventually lead to him signing a contract.

Phillip, who has made 32 senior team appearances for the Soca Warriors, the last of which was in a 2-0 World Cup qualifying win over Barbados last month has been at Joe Public since January 2010 after spells with fellow local clubs, W Connection, North East Stars, Starworld Strikers, San Juan Jabloteh and Defence Force.

A former Princes Town Senior Comprehensive (Princes Town West Secondary) standout, Phillips also represented Tabaquite Composite and Presentation College (San Fernando) during his Secondary Schools Football League career during which time he was the first choice goalkeeper for the national Under-17 squad at the FIFA Under-17 World Cup 2001 hosted here in T&T.

In a release to the media yesterday, Daryll Warner said the terms and conditions of the trials and pending international tranfers for the players had been agreed upon between both clubs, with only international clearance for the players holding up the deal.”

Trinidad and Tobago international goalkeeper Marvin Phillip has joined the Caps on trial and will stay with the club until Sept. 25. The 27-year-old 'keeper played with T&T side Joe Public FC, the same former club as recent Whitecaps signing Carlyle Mitchell.

But weak on crosses.  Will not displace any quality American keeper, unless he masters crossballs.  American GKs are typically strong on crosses.

Very good news!! If he makes it he will be able to work with two very solid keepers in Jay Nolly and Joe Cannon. He'll have an opportunity to learn lots. Hope he makes the best of it.
