Lionel Mordaunt Fraser’s 1896 History of Trinidad Vol 2: 1814-1839 mentions that British Governor of Trinidad, Sir Ralph Woodford, reputedly surrounded himself with “pretty young men”.

Nowadays Woodford Square is a well known haunt for Homosexuals in Port of Spain.

Trinidad Guardian, select volumes from 1917-1931

http://dloc.com/UF00081212/00497/allvolumes?search=trinidad+%3dguardian

Port-of-Spain Gazette, 1907-1914

http://dloc.com/UF00094730/00001/allvolumes?search=port+%3dspain+%3dgazette

Loads of other stuff at http://dloc.com/ but hard to search and sometimes the documents don't render (come back a few days later and it's normally OK again)
