Jamaal continues to run poor tactical races at major champs and once again fails to qualify to a further round. He needs to do a serious re-assessment of things.

Marc Burns opens his bid for honours in the men’s 60 metres dash at the World Indoor Championships, in Istanbul, Turkey, at 11.59 this morning (T&T time).

The Trinidad and Tobago sprinter has been drawn in lane seven in the fifth of eight heats.
Burns, a silver medallist in the men’s sprint relay at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China, will square off against seven other sprinters in his opening round heat, including Canadian Justyn Warner and Guyana’s Jeremy Bascom. The top two will advance automatically to tomorrow’s semis.
Lalonde Gordon and Jarrin Solomon will fly the T&T flag in the men’s 400m.
Gordon, who ran an indoor best 46.43 seconds in New York, USA, in January, will match strides with British quarter-miler Nigel Levine at 6.30 a.m. (T&T time), in the third of six heats.
Five minutes later, Solomon will be on show in heat four. American Gil Roberts, second on the 2012 world indoor list at 45.39 seconds, is also in this heat.

The favourite for gold, 19-year-old Grenadian Kirani James, will run in heat two. James, the reigning 400m world outdoor champion, is the 2012 world indoor leader at 45.19.
The top two finishers and the six “fastest losers” will advance to the semi-final round, scheduled for 2.10 this afternoon (T&T time).
Jamaal James will be the first T&T athlete to compete at the 2012 World Indoor Championships.
James will be on the track at 4.34 this morning (T&T time), running in heat five in the men’s 800m. He is targetting a top-two finish in the race and an automatic berth in tomorrow’s semis.

And the lone female athlete on the T&T team, 60-metre hurdler Aleesha Barber, faces the starter at 11.21 this morning (T&T time) in the fourth and final first round heat. The top three finishers will automatically secure lanes in the semis.

I expect the medals to come from lanes 3-7. The 60m is a starter's race and those 4 men all have that trump card over him. I will like a medal, but I don't see it.

After a very average first leg, which left us 6th and last we did well to come back to capture the bronze in 3:06: in the 4x4.

 Well done fellas  :beermug:

There was talk of a potential DQ for the USA in the 4 x 400, that would bump us up to silver. Any word on that?

Either way, well done, T&T!  :beermug:  :wavetowel:

NOICE!!!!!
Was wondering why it was taking so long for the results to be posted. I switched off my feed right after they crossed the line, so didn't hear any of the commentary.

Yeah its official. Silver for T&T! Fantastic run by the lads. Especially Solomon. Definitely on pace for 4x400 outdoor medal.

Nice to see T&T slowly regaining it's global stature in the 4x400m.
Solomon's father Mike must be proud, having made the 1980 Olympic finals in the 400m for T&T.

Bronze indoor doesn't necessarilly mean much.

I think we won a silver at the World Indoors around 1993 - didn't mean squat in outdoors that decade despite an amazingly talented quartet.

When we start doing around 3:00 flat in the 4x4, we may have a chance in the outdoors.

Bronze may not mean much if we are the U.S. or Jamaica, but given the fact that we could not even field a 4x4 team 4 years ago (it was all Quow) this is encouraging.

The big win here is confidence and expectation in those guys' mind that they can do similar (place-wise) outdoors. Here's Solomon's quote post-race - Jarrin Solomon: "I took the baton in fifth and gave it all out in the last 100m. This was our chance to win a medal, my first one indoors and did not want to miss it. I only started to put on the spikes two weeks ago. We will now prepare for the Olympics and hope to repeat this performance in London."

You also have to look at things relatively. The US runs 2:55 outdoors (A team)/2:58/2:59 (B team), but ran just faster than 3:04 here, mostly unimpeded, so what does that tell you about our time (which by the way was a national indoor record). The world indoor record by the US is 3:02.83, compared to your 3 flat marker above.

Had Gordon not gotten cut off at the first 200m (meaning he should have pushed harder as a 200/400 man, knowing he was in a tough lane 1) we might have been in a better position on the other legs. Frankly I think that T&T quartet should have beaten the UK team, but indoors is all about lane and position.

Seeing what TT TF has to endure this is welcome news. A bronze is a bronze is a bronze. This is indoor track. The medal is a big deal, at least for me. I wonder if TT had won and they had been DQd, would they have gotten the benefit of doubt like the US appears to always get.  But leh we see the race fist before jumping to conclusion. I hope this gives them the confidence to train right for the big dance in London.
