Naparima prevail over Signal Hill.
By: Kern De Freitas.

Some guys have all the luck. Last night at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella, Naparima College had it all, as they got past Signal Hill Secondary Comprehensive 6-5 in a spot kick shootout in the BG T&T Secondary Schools Football League Big Five semi-final.
It was Adisa Connel who turned out to be the Naparima star, scoring the winning kick in sudden death to Signal Hill's goalkeeper Bradon Roberts' left to spark "Naps" celebrations and a field invasion by supporters.
The first round of kicks ended 4-4. Curtis Moses beat Naps custodian Leston Shade with Signal Hill's first kick and then influential midfielder Javed Mohammed missed Naps' first. But Kaylon Morris' miss on Signal Hill's fourth kick, threw the South Zone champions a lifeline.
Then they got real hope when Shahdon Winchester's weak kick hit a divot and bounced over the diving Roberts, into the goal. With the scores locked at 5-5 in sudden death, after Kerron Duncan's miss for Signal Hill, Connel converted to book his team's final berth.
Previously, Winchester had the chance to win it for Naps in the second half of extra time, but kicked wide from close range just before the final whistle.
From the first whistle though, Naparima started brighter and perhaps had slightly the better of the exchanges overall. But after some initial near misses and a few promising Signal Hill attacks, the game drifted into a tight, battle devoid of great entertainment.
The visitors seemed content to defend, while Naps were guilty of wasted chances and turned the ball over on several occasions.
In the second period, Signal Hill, the Tobago Zone champions, settled down somewhat. But they were the ones who eventually conceded the first goal. Thirteen-year-old Winchester, who played the full game, broke the deadlock in the 71st minute when he received a pass inside the 18-metre box and slotted past the helpless Roberts.
Signal Hill's hopes were kept alive by Diego Nicholson six minutes later when he collected a cross from the right side and sent Naps keeper Shade the wrong way. But Naps had their way eventually under the pressure of the spot kicks. The South champs will now meet East Zone winners San Juan Secondary in the grand final on Saturday.

San Juan, Naps in Big 5 Final.

Just as in 2004, today's BG T&T Secondary Schools Football League National League final pits the best in the East against the best of the South. On Wednesday night, Naparima College again made their second consecutive trip to the Larry Gomes Stadium in Malabar, Arima, for the League title after getting past Signal Hill Secondary Comprehensive.
This time around though, they meet the might of San Juan Secondary Comprehensive, who have been in the wilderness of national schools football for 22 years, since their maiden League triumph in 1983.
"Naps" themselves will be looking to claim their second League title. Despite their illustrious Intercol history-Naps are joint leaders with five wins-their sole League success came in 1999, when they completed a sweep of national titles.
Although not very glib on his team's expectations ahead of today's all-important encounter, San Juan manager Philip Fraser made it clear his team was going into the match with only victory on their minds.
"Well, we are definitely looking for a win," Fraser told the Express yesterday. "What we do is take each game as a final and we are preparing for the match the same way we prepared for (semi-final opponents) Mucurapo."
Naparima manager Richard Nagaur said his players were also betting on themselves to emerge victorious in the final.
"Right now we're confident. Signal Hill was a real hurdle, they gave us a good fight and we had some luck. But I think we held it together as a team, (we had) a good team effort.
"We played San Juan in July, a practice match," Nagaur continued. "They were very good. They were very good. We drew 1-1. I would want to believe right now they (San Juan) are the best team in the league. I know we are the underdogs tomorrow (today), but we have nothing to lose. And we are not the team they played in July. We have improved. We have not lost a game for the season."
The team is also looking on to 13-year-old Shahdon Winchester-who scored to keep Naps in the Wednesday's semi-final-and national Under-17 skipper Javed Mohammed to provide some impetus in the attack.
Fraser also indicated his team was hungry for titles.
"We are looking for a clean sweep. Our strength is attacking and the defence is stable. We have about three goalscorers right now on ten (goals). So it's not just one man, its an allround attack we are looking at. The bottom line is we are going out there just as we prepared for Mucurapo."
With both teams highly motivated to take home the trophy, the match promises to be an interesting clash of styles. Whichever way it goes, the winners will collect the silverware from their second National League title at the final whistle.
US$1,000 for top InterCol players.

The stars of the 2005 RBTT-sponsored Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) InterCol tournament have the chance to be selected on a Trinidad and Tobago schoolboys All-Star team which will tour Jamaica for a two-match series against a Jamaican All-Star selection.
That was one of two main initiatives announced at the launch of this year's competition yesterday at the Chancellor Hotel, St Ann's.
At the function, two teams were allowed to permanently keep the InterCol trophies after achieving the feat of winning the title for three consecutive years.
Malick girls' captain Sabrina Frederick lifted the trophy for her team, while Lester Peltier did the same for boys' champions St Anthony's College.
It was also announced that the Most Valuable male and female player will win US $1,000 apiece courtesy RBTT.
SSFL president Ewing Davis announced that this year they had added to the InterCol excitement by including teams from the Senior Division in the competition.
"This year, the RBTT InterCol kicks off on Monday, October 31 because of the adjustment of teams in zones from eight teams to seven teams. The League will include leading non-championship senior teams to play InterCol football this year and its final game will be contested on Saturday, November 26," said Davis.
It was also revealed that RBTT will pump some $300,000 into this year's InterCol.
Delivering the feature address was Wayne Kangaloo, assistant general manager commercial banking at RBTT Ltd. He gave his company's commitment to schools football.
"For seven years, we have been supporting InterCol, which is arguably the most popular secondary schools sporting event. InterCol football is very dear to our hearts because we understand that when young people develop a passion for the sport, they also develop positive lasting traits than can be applied across the board in our daily lives," said Kangaloo.
"Discipline, a sense of team spirit, and the will to excel are qualities that combine to shape individuals of character who can make meaningful, enduring contributions to society."
Rudolph Thomas, head coach of Presentation College, Chaguanas, made a plea to the young footballers to pay as much attention to their education as to football.
Had he the power, Thomas said, he would make it mandatory that for a player to represent a national team, they needed to have at least three O-Level passes. He said during school, good students assimilated information and executed it at exam time and it was a similar principle in football.

Like Javed Mohammed have flicking worms or what!! Stupid boy!! Only have a left foot and does play for T&T under 19 and still doing that shit. Well he is 2 for 2 in missing penalties thus far. How shameful for him. Right now it looking like the favour is definitely for San Juan to win.
