Really exciting things on the home front. Glad to see Richard running good times. He's been solid all season so a good time with a good wind was expected glad we got the cherry on top with the NR broken. Happy to see DB running solidly again. Let's not rush him to racers or anywhere he made his progress this season while in Trinidad so I'm sure he can continue to do so. Anyone remember MVP?

Michelle Michelle Michelle I've said that she had this potential from carifta and to see her fulfilling it is amazing. Crazy thing is it seems like she can still make improvements with her technique. It will be even better when KAB and then Semoy return to push each other to great things and even Kai might want some of the success that her former carifta rival is having. It will be amazing to see them dip below 42seconds in the relay and challenge the US and Jamaica.

Extremely proud of Janiel Bellille for upping the level of the women's 400m. Finally we have a decent female 400m runner and she can only get better.

Overall track is getting stronger in Trinidad and it's an honour to see it happen in our lifetime.

PS:
It looks like Rondell Sorrillo suffered a muscle pull during the 100m Final which explains why he ran slower in that race (10.23) than he did in the Semi-Final (10.09) and then did not take part in the 200m Heats and Final the following day. Lets hope it was not anything serious and that Sorrillo will be ok.

Lalonde golden in men's half-lap

Lalonde Gordon won the men's 200m final in 20.38 seconds, beating 400m champion Renny Quow (20.41) into second spot. Kyle Greaux (20.59) finished third.

Ahye completes sprint double

Michelle-Lee Ahye struck gold in the women's 200 metres in 22.95 seconds. In the qualifying round, she had clocked a personal best 22.77. Reyare Thomas seized silver in 23.17, while bronze went to Kayelle Clarke in 23.44.
On Saturday, Ahye won the 100m title in 10.88.

Gold for Wilson, Alexander, Williams, Glasgow

Quincy Wilson won the men's discus with a 54.93 metres throw. Ayanna Alexander produced a 5.87m leap for gold in the women's long jump.

Dominica's Brendan Williams cleared the bar at 2.03m to capture the men's high jump title. And Ayanna Glasgow accumulated 4,062 points to grab women's heptathlon gold.

Borel dominates

Cleopatra Borel threw 18.63 metres for a comfortable victory in the women's shot put. Cubans Yaniuvis Lopez and Sahily Viart were second and third, respectively, throwing 17.37m and 15.67m.

Brooks golden in women's two-lap

Alena Brooks dominated her rivals in the women's 800m, winning the two-lap race in 2:08.32. Second-placed Dawnel Collymore clocked 2:17.43.

Cuban wins men's 800

Cuban Andy Gonzalez returned a time of one minute, 48.39 seconds to win the men's 800 metres final. T&T runners, Jamaal James and Kendis Bullard finished second and third, respectively, clocking 1:48.57 and 1:48.64.

Mayers beats Jehue

Richard actually said in an after race interview after winning the 100m that his body has had enough for the meet so he would be skipping the 200m tomorrow. Wise decision from him as we don't want him to pick up any injuries at this point from overworking himself to qualify to run in an event that he has little chance of making the Commonwealth Games Final in especially after doing the rounds in the 100m.

You should more be asking that question of Sorrillo seeing that he did not win the 100m or place in the top four like Richard, Bledman, Brown and Burns and is unlikely to make the CW Games 100m final if he is entered for that event. However in the 200m Sorrillo stands a realistic chance of making the final at the CW Games but we can't reliable say he stands a good chance of medaling but who knows.

I don't think it is a good idea for either Lalonde or Quow to run both the 200m and 400m at the CW Games because they are better much better at the 400m and will not medal in the 200m based on their 200m PB's and what the top 200m specialists are regularly running in 200m this season. Neither of them are in the top 20 performance list for the 200m for 2014 but they are both in the top 20 in the 400m.

Sorrillo on the other hand is in the top 12 over the 200m this year. I am hoping that maybe because Sorrillo has already run the 200m CW Games qualification standard this season that the NAAA told him that he does not have to run in the 200m at the National Trials in order to make the team for the 200m individual event.

For the Commonwealth Games Richard Thompson needs to concentrate on winning the 100m final if he can seeing that both Blake and Bolt won't be there and also on anchoring our 4x100m relay team to a medal.
RT trying to run the 200m there will be as damaging to his prospects in his pet events as I predict that it will also be to Quow and Gordon in running in the individual 400m and also trying to help our 4x400m relay to medal and challenge for gold. We will need as fresh as possible legs in the 4x 400m relay if we wish to hold off Jamaica, Britain and Bahamas who will all be looking to win one of the 4x400m relay medals and keep anyone else off the podium.

RT is not a world class 200m runner but Ato was. In fact I think the 200m was Ato's better event but he became a bit too obsessed with the 100m especially considering that he had to play 2nd fiddle most of the time to his training partner Mo Green in the 100m event.

RT said his body has had enough after running 9.82 in the 100m final on Saturday (listen to after race interview here: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10204202500452340&set=vb.1521881116&type=2&theater) and seeing that he is not a world class 200m sprinter there is no benefit to him in qualifying and entering in that event at the Commonwealth Games.

Hopefully Sorrillo will still be selected for the individual 200m as he is our fastest 200m man at present until someone else can step up and can consistently post times below 20.22 this season or in the future.

Michelle-Lee Ahye completed the NGC/Sagicor National Open Track & Field Championship women’s sprint double, at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain, yesterday.

Ahye clocked an impressive 22.95 seconds to win the 200 metres title, following up on her 10.88 golden dash in Saturday’s 100m final. Reyare Thomas got to the line in a personal best 23.17 to secure silver in the half-lap final. Kayelle Clarke also produced her best-ever wind-legal run, the teenager bagging bronze in 23.44.

In the 200m qualifying round, Ahye dominated the heat two field with a 22.77 seconds run—a new personal record (PR).

Lalonde Gordon turned the tables on Renny Quow, retaining his men’s 200m title with a 20.38 seconds run in the final. On Saturday, Quow edged Gordon into second spot in the 400m, both athletes getting home in 45.08.

Quow was stronger in the first half of yesterday’s 200m final. But Gordon was the man on the home straight, powering past his rival to strike gold. Quow claimed silver in 20.41, while Kyle Greaux clocked 20.59 to take home bronze.

Emanuel Mayers captured the men’s 400m hurdles title in 49.57 seconds, forcing world champion Jehue Gordon to settle for silver in 49.69.

VB, your point might apply to DB but not to RT, where have you been?

These are the 100m times that RT has already ran outside of T&T this season:-

8.8 and 9.0 100m relay anchors at the World Relays in Bahamas

9.74 wind aided in Clermont, Florida, USA

9.95 legal and 10.02 into a negative wind in Europe

10.44, 10.20 & 9.82 all with legal winds at T&T Trials

This indicates to me that barring injury RT will continue to run fast times including sub-10s this season in the right conditions and will be a strong medal contender come the Commonwealth Games.

Where Darrel is concerned I will remain cautious as that 10.05 he ran at National Champs is the fastest time he has ran for many years and is yet to be replicated by him this year even at home in Trinidad.

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad & Tobago - Olympic medalist Richard Thompson highlighted the second day of Trinidad and Tobago National Championships with world leading and national record 9.82 (+1.7) in the 100m.

He was followed by Keston Bledman (10.00) and Darrel Brown (10.05) with Mark Burns (10.21) and Rondell Sorrillo (10.23 and faster 10.09 in semifinals).

Very fast also Michelle-Lee Ahye who achieved two fastest women 100 m times of the year with world leading 10.85 (+1.6) in the semifinals and 10.88 (+1.2) in the finals. Second Kai Selvon 11.32.

Wayne Davis Jr. (13.21, +0.4) dethroned Mikel Thomas (13.45) in the men's 110m hurdles.

In the 400 m finals, Renny Quow beat by 0.004 Lalonde Gordon (both 45.08), third Jarrin Solomon 45.59, while in women 400m, Janeil Belillle set a new national record 51.83.
