OFFICIALS OF the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) will begin a five-day visit of the country today, as guests of the National Basketball Federation of Trinidad and Tobago (NBFTT ). The “Assessment Visit” is an initiative under FIBA’s newly-launched National Federation Support and Development Program .

Heading the FIBA delegation will be Mr Nestor Rodriguez, the National Federations and Sport Manager of FIBA for the Americas .

A recent release from the NBFTT has said that the visit will set the stage for a better understanding of the federation’s strengths and weaknesses, and how best it (the NBFTT ) can use the current environment to grow the sport and expand the federation’s reach .

FIBA’s proposed agenda includes visits to existing basketball facilities, meeting stakeholders such as local players, clubs, teams, members of the electronic and print media, the national Olympic Committee (TTO C), the Ministry of Sport and the Sports Company (SPORTT ) and other organisations .

FIBA’s representatives also plan to meet with basketball’s sponsors, such as the Tobago House of Assembly, the National Gas Company and BPTT .

Media representatives will have the opportunity to discuss the matters related to the sport, including ideas on how the sport can be enhanced locally, at a meeting on Thursday morning at the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT ) Agora Campus in Charlieville .

The FIBA visit will conclude on Saturday .
