« on: July 19, 2016, 10:10:46 AM »
100 METRES MEN
FIRST 3 IN EACH HEAT (Q) AND THE NEXT 6 FASTEST (Q)
WIND: -0.4

POS   BIB   ATHLETE   COUNTRY   MARK      REACTION TIME
1   114   Jack HALE   AUS AUS   10.48 Q      0.155
2   364   Oliver BROMBY   GBR GBR   10.52 Q      0.171
3   574   Ippei TAKEDA   JPN JPN   10.61 Q      0.137
4   779   Dyland SICOBO   SEY SEY   10.79      0.184

7   764   Phemelo MATLHABE   RSA RSA   11.99      0.163

Last qualifier was 10.65, way below his 10.47PB/10.49SB - maybe affected by his start (he had the slowest reaction time). Wind variation for all heats spanned -0.6 to +0.7

Jenea Spinks is 16 and ran a 11.66pb. That is huge. Definitely a star in the making.

What's happening with our men? Hislop, King and St Clair all out in the first round..

Hislop pet event is the 200. However he has some strong competition from the two Americans who are running very low 20.0x.

Botswana fielded two 400m runners. One ran 44.2x this season. And the other ran 45.4x already. If they are available for the Olympics, Botswana will be a medal threat in the 4x400

Like many of the Botswana 400m men PBs, they are set at their national stadium in Gaborone in 3300+ altitude.
His next best time elsewhere however is a very decent 44.69

I believe that Baboloki Thebe's time of 44.22 was set at altitude at the Botswana National Stadium in Gaborone (Elevation: 1,014m/3,327ft above sea level) but it is still a great time for his age.

See links: http://www.iaaf.org/athletes/botswana/baboloki-thebe-284380 & https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaborone.

Ah have ah serious question. Tariq Horsford is one of our most promising field athletes. Is he not competing? is he still too young? because even at his age he was the best at U-20 level at Carifta Championships.

Congrats Khalifa! Really proud of her. It's a shame that the hamstring was giving trouble because had she been injury free things could have been much different but all in time, maybe this is just a test of patience.

Could be why her start wasn't as explosive as last year.

I was wondering why she was so happy with placing 3rd and now I know why.

Hope she is back to full fitness in time for Rio as we might need her to anchor our 4x100m Women team in the Heats or in the Final.

I think KAB to MLA to Hackett to Khalifa should earn us at least a bronze medal in Rio and a sub-42 time and new NR.

Looking at the race from the finish line, you can see how much Kalifa drifted from side to side during the race.  I hope that she corrects that.  11.18 at age 18 with those flaws is excellent.

I love her potential and i hope that Ato continues to work with her to maximize it.

did not see her in any of the semi final races. I see the Bajan girl who dominated at Carifta. She will probably go on to win the World Junior title.

Ato mentioned something about her hamstring still giving her trouble and made a decision to pull her out. Which is fair enough. Longevity is what we all want. It would have been awesome to see Sada Williams (Bajan girl) go up against Candace Hill. Sada is making things look easy at the moment.

Once Khalifa's hamstring heals then she can focus on getting her pb down in the 200. Right now I dont think she has run sub 23 but of course it's only a matter of time and full health.

Seriously now, why we did not send a boys and girls relay team to compete at the World Juniors?

TTO sent a girl's 4x100m team that did not start due to St. Fort's "injury" - obviously they did not figure us as a medal threat and did not have an alternate or extra athlete qualified in another individual event such as the 100m hurdles, long jump to substitute.

TTO boy's 4x400m team is in tomorrow's final but going will be tough. Botswana won their heat in 3:03.xx and other teams posted better times.

In an Olympic year when funds are prioritized for the senior Olympic team, in addition to the NACAC U-23 Games (don't know if we sent anyone), you have to expect that the WJC team will be under-represented. In addition not many of our athletes made the entry standards.

Curiously though, regarding funds allocation, I wonder how many officials are there?
