North East Stars booked a place in the semi-final of the First Citizens Cup with a 3-1 win over Neal& Massy Caledonia AIA in the second game of a double header at the Larry Gomes Stadium on Friday 15th September, 2006.

In what is fast becoming a very eagerly anticipated clash in the quarter final round of the First Citizens Cup, the Fast running physical ‘Grande Stars’ matched up with the smooth passing Caledonia AIA.

North East was first into stride with the speedy Shandell Samuel hitting over bar after a neat build up in the 6th minute.

Caledonia’s Jason Cudjoe missed an easy chance in the 13th minute when found himself unmarked at the top of the box.

After these early chances the two teams settled down and fought for supremacy in the mid-field with North East having the slightly better of the exchanges. In the 33rd minute, Conrad Smith made a nice run into the North East area but hit high over bar. A minute later North East Oneke Ford almost made Caledonia pay but he headed over bar from inside the 6 yard box.

The game continued at a pace with no team able to gain the upper hand on the other. The score remaining 0-0 at the half.
Seven minutes after the resumption North East Stars would get on the scorecard when a slip by the outstanding Radanfah Abu Bakr freed up the nippy Shandell Samuel who scored gleefully.

Abu Bakr was to make amends only ten minutes later when in the 63rd minute he scored from a beautifully taken free-kick from just outside the 18 yard box. Not to be outdone North East’s Oneke Ford was to match that free kick with one of his own when he score a rocket from just on top the 18 yard box—the ‘Sangre Grande Stars’ taking a 2-1 lead.

The game then became very physical with a number of fouls being committed by both teams. In the 81st minute North East’s Jesse Martinez could have finished off the game as a contested but he missed after a brilliant run by Samuel, which left him with the simple task of slotting home into an open goal.

Nine minutes later with Caledonia searching for the equalizer Stars Marc Leslie would score a well-taken goal to finish off Caledonia and book a semi-final spot in First Citizen Cup.
