Winning the First Citizen’s Bank Cup on Friday night brought tears to the eyes of many VIBE CT 105 W Connection players, fans and the management as they basked in the glory of their team’s success.

Owner of the top club, David John Williams, also shed tears of joy after the Savonetta boys won the FCB title beating CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh 3-1 on penalty shots at the Manny Ramjohn stadium, Marabella.

He said the win which gave the club its third FCB Cup was like the first time for the team.

“We have been in 17 Cup finals and last night it was like the first time, the butterflies were all there. People don’t know how important this title is to the team.

“We have shown T&T that we are a team that hung in there, a team that will not lay down and die. We won the Cup for a third time in its history. It’s very important for the team, for people connected to the team,” said Williams, wiping his water-filled eyes.

At the same time he drew attention to the players, including captain Earl Jean, Atiba Charles, Elijah Joseph, who have demonstrated their commitment to the club an revealed that Joseph, who suffered a groin strain was still going out there and played the entire 45 minutes asked of him. He said: “That’s the heart of a big man.”

The W Connection owner said their opponents CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh must given credit for the way they challenged for their own title honours: “It was two heavyweight champions going at each other back and forth and ninety minutes could not have separate us.”

He said: “It’s unlucky to lose in a penalty shoot out, but at the end of the day the winner got to savour the victory because that’s part of the game.”

He also commended goalkeeper Jan Michael Williams the choice of coach Stuart Charles-Fevrier.

Jabloteh coach, Terry Fenwick who was dejected after the match said he was disappointed that they did not win.

He said “We were the best team in the second half for 30-40 percent of the second half in the final third, I thought we really dominated. You really got to stick your chances but W Connection has scored the points.”

Fenwick sounded a warning to other teams and to W Connection: “We are not going away. We are not giving in. We are going after the next cup and we will win everything next year”.

Fevrier said the FCB win was a “a good win for us. The team worked very hard since January I think we deserved to win”.

W Connection’s captain Earl Jean noted that not only has the entire team been working hard to achieve this win but the management and staff.

He said the focus of the team in on the league title, “we have to keep our heads on the ground because we know we have more matches to play.

“We have a good lead in the League and we do not want to lose, because it would be very disappointing if we end up losing the league.”
