The Petrotrin-sponsored Fyzabad Community Football League opens today from 3:00 pm at the Petrotrin Fyzabad Recreation Ground. The league, now in its 29th year, will make a much welcome return to the southern community after a one-year absence.
Seven teams that are vying for top honours this year are Standard Sports Club (longest playing team in the league), New City FC, Gallows United FC, South Oropouche United, Boca Juniors (reigning KO champions), New Comers (reigning league champions) and new kid on the block, A.S.A.P. FC (representing the youths of Pepper Village).
Matches continue every Saturday and Sunday at the Petrotrin Fyzabad Recreation Ground and on Thursday at Standard Recreation Ground. The opening takes the form of a parade of the teams and queens led by the Petrotrin Cadet Corp.
The feature game of the day will see reigning league champions New Comers come up against their arch rivals and reigning KO champions Boca Juniors in a community cup opener.
