Malabar FC moved up one spot to a joint fifth position in the TTFA National Super League (NSL) standings on Sunday, when the club defeated Tobago’s 1976 FC Phoenix, 1-0, at home in the day’s lone rescheduled fixture.
Xae-Pierre De Fou, who won the Super League’s MVP award in 2010, scored the only goal in the 39th minute to give Malabar the much needed win.
Malabar, which finished third last season started off slowly this season and have now recorded its third win in seven matches.
Meanwhile, Phoenix, which played the least number of matches of all 15 teams, remained in 12th spot after just one win in five matches.
Phoenix will be back in action tomorrow, when another rescheduled match is played. Phoenix will host defending champion and ninth placed Guaya United at Bon Accord, Tobago, from 4 pm.
The league will resume with a full round of matches on Sunday.
