St Anthony’s College scored two second-half goals in a come-from-behind effort to remain with a 100 per cent winning record to maintain its position at the top of the BGTT Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) Premier Division, yesterday, with a 2-1 victory over Arima North Secondary.

The “Tigers” recorded the win away from home at Arima’s school ground, thanks to second half goals from Simon Joseph, who netted in the 57th minute and Kwesi Allen who bagged the all-important winner ten minutes later.

With that win, along with St Marys’ comfortable 2-0 win over Chaguanas North, the two North Zone teams remained above the 14-standings, with 12 and ten points, respectively. However, the other two North Zone teams recorded losses, while the South Zone teams were the big performers of the day winning three out of the four matches. Naparima College secured its third win in four matches with a 2-1 result over East Mucurapo, which remained rooted to the bottom of the table with its fourth consecutive loss.

Mucurapo could only respond with one goal in the second half through Kazim Donald, after Trent Paul and Amrit Gildharry scored Naps’ two goals in the first half. Perhaps, the most outstanding win on the day went to another south team, Shiva Boys Hindu College, which breezed past winless Carapichaima East, 4-0.

Marvin Sueraj scored a hat-trick for Shiva. Meanwhile, potent forward Tyrik Joseph, son of T&T’s record goal scorer Stern John, netted one goal in either half, to see Trinity College East defeat St Benedict’s 2-1. National U-17 player Brent Sam scored between John’s two goals in the 22nd minute.
