Speyside Secondary romped to a 6-0 victory over Goodwood Secondary to lift the Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) Tobago Zone title yesterday.

At Goodwood, even with one more round to go, Speyside were crowned champions because second-placed Signal Hill Secondary have already ended their campaign and are on a bye the next round. Speyside will now move on to the national Big Four playoffs next Saturday where they will play St Anthony’s College.

Speyside (29 pts) have an insurmountable two-point  lead over Signal Hill (27).

Pentecostal L&L (17 pts), on a bye yesterday, will remain third because fourth-placed Roxborough are on 13 and can’t catch them even with a victory in Wednesday’s final round.

Meanwhile, Roxborough defeated Scarborough 3-1 at Shaw Park yesterday. And at Signal hill, the hosts won 4-2 over Bishop’s High.

Speyside set to wrap up Tobago SSFL title today.
T&T Guardian Reports.

Given its far superiour goal difference, Speyside Secondary will almost surely seal top spot in the Tobago Zone of the BGTT First Citizens Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) Championship Division, today, with at least a draw when it hosts Goodwood.

Current-runner up Signal Hill, which stood neck and neck with Speyside throughout the campaign, may well have lost the chance to enter the Big-Four competition, last Wednesday when it lost its first match of the season, 3-0, to Roxborough. Signal Hill will have to win today against rock-bottom Bishop’s High and hope for a massive upset between Goodwood and Speyside to remain with a fighting chance of winning the zone.

Speyside remains undefeated after 10 matches with eight wins and two draws and will play one more match after this weekend, which if needed could be used to sew up the title. The Tobago Zone winner will enter the Big-Four competition, which includes the top three teams from the recently concluded inaugural Premier Division competition. Naparima took the title, while St Anthony’s finished runner-up. San Juan North Secondary placed third.
