Barataria South Secondary took an early step toward promotion to the Premier Division, yesterday, after sealing a 3-2 win over Central’s Presentation College in the opening round of the BGTT First Citizens Secondary Schools Football League Championship Big Eight competition.
Francis Paul, Rondel Gibson and Israel Alfonso scored for Barataria, while Suraj Ramcharan nearly took something away for Presentation with a double.

The result saw Barataria take to the top of Group A joint with Princes Town West also won yesterday by a narrow scoreline, 2-1, over Trinity College of Moka.

In Group B, QRC eased past Miracle Ministries 5-0 to leap to the top of the standings, while Fyzabad and Valencia each took away a point after a goalless draw.

At the end of group play, the top two teams from each group will advance to the semifinal stage.

The semifinal winners will gain promotion to the Premier Division, as will the winner of the third-place playoff.

Action will continue on Friday with the second round of Big Eight matches.

The Premier Division Big-Four competition will begin on Saturday. St Anthony’s College’s clash with Speyside Secondary has been relocated to St Mary’s College Ground, Serpentine Road. That match will kick off at 3.45 pm, simultaneously with San Juan North’s meeting Naparima College in San Juan.
