Marabella upset Carapichaima in Central

Newcomers Marabella Junior Secondary created a major upset in the Central Zone British Gas Secondary Schools Football League when they edged Carapichaima Senior Comprehensive 2-1 at the Ato Boldon Stadium yesterday.

In their opening round match, Marabella were thrashed 8-0 by defending champs Presentation College Chaguanas. But they showed great determination when they rebounded to come out on top against seasoned campaigners Carapichaima to leave their supporters celebrating, their confidence in their team somewhat restored.

Marabella took the lead in the 29th minute through Akim Marshall who found the net from a free kick just outside the area. Marshall put his team further ahead when he scored again from another free kick fifteen minutes into the second half. "Carps" piled on the pressure on their inexperienced opponents but missed several opportunities to reduce the lead.

However, Kerron Smith pulled one back for Carps in the final minute of the game.

At Chaguanas, Presentation College registered their second victory when they easily whipped Union Claxton Bay 6-0. Dion Lewis scored a hat trick for Pres, while Anslem Allert booted home a double. Anthony Ogarro scored the other item. Presentation led 5-0 at half time.

At Woodford Lodge, Tabaquite Composite beat Chaguanas Senior 4-0. Angel Garcia led the way with a double for Tabaquite while Miguel Teemul and Richard Mahabir scored one each.
