Holmes told the Tobago News that Yorke told him he had heard a lot about him and that was why he was invited to play with the team.
He added that Yorke told him after the game that he was very impressed with him and will try to get him a try-out with an English team in two years’ time.
The SSS stand-out who played a pivotal role in his school’s success last season and has already earned national caps said that he will be training very hard during the two years to bring his game up to a very high level so that when he gets his chance he will make full use of it.
The celebrity match attracted a massive crowd at the Dwight Yorke Stadium last Friday with the Bertille St Clair coached Tobago Football Association All Star team triumphing 3-0. This is the second triumph for this team, having defeated the Guyana National team 2-1 recently.
Among the celebrities on the Dwight Yorke team were, the man himself and Trinidad and Tobago’s most renowned footballer Dwight Yorke, his goal-scoring partner for Manchester United when they captured the treble in English football, Andy Cole, Terry Sherningham, Chris Mull, Stern John, Russ Russell and cricketing legend Brian Lara who showed that he can dance with the best in football.
However, despite the loss, the large crowd enjoyed glimpses of the talent that made most of the celebrities’ standouts in their time.
Yorke said after the game that his plan is to make this an annual affair and he hope to bring in more big name players in the future which should be a boost for sports tourism.
